One LTC who looks like he can pass his one-mile walk
That’s Marine Lieutenant Colonel Karl Trenker and he looks like he won’t be complaining about his PT test in the next few years despite the fact that he was shot three times when he confronted thieves in Miramar, Florida. A veteran of tours in Iraq and Afghanistan where he survived without a scratch, Trenker plugged the three bullet holes in his chest with his fingers while he told his children that he’d be OK according to the report from UK’s Mail;
He said the confrontation with the robbers took place after his girlfriend Tanta Siaz advertised a gold chain for sale on Craigslist.
The U.S. Marine said he volunteered to carry out the sale and drove to an apartment complex to meet the potential buyers.
As he showed off the necklace one of the men shoved him and grabbed the jewellery.
Lt Colonel Trenker said he chased after the two men when one of them turned round and opened fire, hitting him multiple times.
Doctors have told Lt Colonel Trenker he will make a full recovery from his wounds and can return to work at the Southern Command Headquarters.
The two mutts who plugged the Marine are in custody without bail and they’re facing attempted murder charges.
Thanks to Rick for the link.

Hehehehe, I would wager that he could pass it with a lardassed AF LTC over his shoulder.
Oh. Em. Gee.
The man is beyond hot!!!!
It needed to be said.
KTHXBAI!
I’m surprised the bullets didn’t bounce off his chest…
I think that lardass AF light colonel should try walking a mile in LtCol Trenker’s shoes. Then, LtCol Trenker can focus on recovering for his next SEMIANNUAL PFT where he will be expected to RUN the THREE miles. Of course, prior to his injury I’m sure LtCol Trenker had no problem with the PFT.
The Air Farce should be ashamed.
Just goes to show what most military (except AF upper brass) instinctively know, to wit:
AF =/= USMC.
(FYI, =/= is “does NOT equal”)
I just looked in the dictionary for the word badass and his picture was right there in the description.
Yep. That’s the kind that understands the Prime Directive of Leadership.
Set the Example.
The only way this could be better is if he had caught the douche bags himself….they have to be glad the police caught them and not this Marine!!!
He may well be a Marine but going alone to meet and sell a piece of jewlery isn’t very bright – then again, he is an officer.
The very mention of meeting at an apartment complex should have set off every alarm bell this guy had.
What Nicki said. Yum.
WTH is “jewellery”?
[…] There’s another pic of the LTC below the fold, courtesy of This Ain’t Hell: […]
With that muscle mass, the rounds probably lodged in his skin. Three hits. Must have been up close. Nobody being chased shoots that well.
Is he 29 or a Lieutenant not a LTC? Seems a little young for a LTC if he is only 29.
Brian: I read somewhere in my email that someone who knows him says he has 29 years in service, and he’s 48 years old. Good old media fact-checking.
Several reports from vaguely credible news sources say he’s a Lt. Col. One of the comments in the Daily Mail article says the following:
I know Lt Col Trenker and he’s 48. He’s spent 29 years in the Marine Corps. He’s an incredible man, a hero, and a dang fine Marine to have served with. Sir, so glad you are going to be alright. Oohrah Sir!!

So he goes to an unknown location to sell a gold necklace (stupid move #1), gets robbed, chases the robbers to get the necklace back or out of ego (stupid move #2) and gets shot (because everyone knows that low body fat % and well developed muscles stop bullets). But let’s not talk about that. Let’s just use it as an occasion to bash Airmen as a bunch of fatasses. Even those Air Force fatasses that spend years learning how to put your Marine/Army ass back together. You’re right B Woodman. AF =/= USMC. And for that you should be grateful.
Oh dude, come on! A little good-natured interservice rivalry and you’re getting a bruised labia about it? Sheesh!
AF…MSGT Soup Sandwich. ‘Nuff said.
I know good natured interservice banter sweetie and some jag off telling me that the “Air Farce should be ashamed” or that the Air Force and USMC aren’t equal with the implicit notion that the Marines are superior and more valuable than every other branch isn’t “good natured”. But I’ll be sure to let every honorable, brave and dedicated airman, sailor and soldier Ive served along side with know what you think is “good natured”. I’m sure they’ll think it’s hilarious.
@20: As the “jag off” who told everyone, not just you, that the Air Farce should be ashamed, once you get your panties out of a wad maybe you’ll be able to acknowledge that ANY service that allows a sniveling panty waste of an O-5 who whines about having to WALK a friggin’ mile should be ashamed for continuing to count that waste of a paycheck among their number. My comment wouldn’t be any different if he were a Marine, a Sailor, a Soldier, or a Coastie for that matter. If he were a Marine, however, he’d have been tossed out on his fatass long ago.
The question is not about which service is better, it’s about which of the two examples given showed a true warrior spirit.
Hmmmm….

yep, i’d be scared of that man.
@#17, #20. AFRemfer, the Marine Corps is not better than any branch of the armed forces. Each branch has it’s own mission which requires different skill sets and training. The USAF does, without a doubt, control the skies. The US Army is, beyond question, the best large unit infantry force on land. The US Navy is aknowledged ruler of the 7 seas. The Marine Corps teaches the world in amphibious operations, small unit tactics and close air support. Different mission, different skill sets.
Are Marines superior ‘soldiers’? Yes we are. Compare anyone’s basic to Marine Corps recruit training, the closest is nine weeks, we’re still there a month after they graduate. Compare physical fitness standards, every Marine runs the same PFT, with adjustments, their entire career; oh and that includes a three mile run. Let’s look at marksmanship standards, EVERY Marine, regardless of MOS, has to qualify annually which includes hitting a target at OVER one quarter mile. How about leadership training, ours starts the second (?) week of recruit training. When the Marine Corps recognizes leadership qualities, they use them, I guess that’s why our E-4s are NCOs. The ultimate comparison is PRIDE. This past Veteran’s Day week an Air Force co-worker said when asked, “Yes I’m a veteran, I was in the Air Force”, a Navy co-worker said when asked, “Yeah, I served in the Navy”. My response to that question? “I AM a Marine.” These are indisputable facts. We all had/have our reasons for joining our respective branches or the Marine Corps. None are right or wrong, good or
bad. I think our motto says it all, Semper Fidelis.
I do not fear the man I see coming, I fear the one I don’t
It is motivating to see a man whose been wounded three times still kicking ass. Sadly the days are soon coming when warriors like this are pushed out for those assholes that know how to pass the canapes

First of all, I’m not your sweetie, bitch. I’m a former Army NCO, and *I* can walk more than a fucking mile.
Second of all – the Air Force SHOULD be ashamed that it promoted a fatass who can’t even waddle a goddamn mile in a very reasonable amount of time to his highest level of incompetence. If YOU aren’t ashamed of this, there’s something wrong with YOU.
And lastly, the Air Force is not equal to the USMC, and neither of those services is equal to the Army. They are very different services with very different missions. Yes, the Marines have tougher physical standards – they’re supposed to. Does it chap your vagina to acknowledge that? Too fucking bad.
Untangle your tampon string and get with the program.
See – this is one problem I have with entirely too many folks. Does anyone understand the meaning of the word equal? It does NOT mean the same.
And, yes, it is extremely offensive to be denegrated for service in one or another branch. And probably not for the reason you think.
This is a public place. Devolving into petty bickering in front of those who have not served at all is just tacky. And it is not particularly honorable.
But that’s just one opinion.
Slow down the bickering. I served as an enlisted man in the USAF 1964-1971 and Army officer 1971-1996. Both branches have their strengths and weaknesses. I served with various Marines during both periods (and Navy, as well). All three have good, bad, and in-between personnel as well as ways of doing their jobs. There are slugs who can’t pass an APFT and grouse about meeting standards, but they are few and far between. The Branches take care of those folks as part of SOP. We all prefer our Branch and take an opportunity to bust chops on others, but not filthy, insulting remarks in front of females, children, and others! Keep civil tongues in your heads and remember that everyone who serves/served is your brother or sister in uniform. The APFT isn’t a test of anything other than the ability of the individual to meet minimum standards at a given time. Bad attitude or lack of pride eventually kills a career for reasons beyond inability to run or do exercises. But bad attitudes resulting in insulting fellow service members in print is unacceptable. Leave that to the lowlifes who hate or disrespect us. Respect yourselves and your brothers/sisters! Love you, Army, Navy, USAF, and Marines! Huah! Signed, LTC with 30 years in combat boots.
@#27. Old Soldier, I love the ‘good natured ribbing’ that all service members enjoy. My Army brother-in-law had some great stuff, all meant in fun. My favorite? A bunch of Marines enter a bar chanting ’52 days’ after completing a puzzle who’s box said ‘2-6 years’!
What I don’t get is, if we’re (Marines) nothing special, why do they continue to compare themselves to us? Or, if we’re that good and they’re just like us why the disparity in training requirements? If you wanted to work on planes or helicopters, we have ’em! The rest is “same/same”. Motor T is Motor T, supply is supply, an office clerk in an office clerk.
I guess what I’m saying is, if you chose to be an airman, be proud of that. I chose to be a Marine and I’m proud of that. Making silly comparisons only makes you look bad.
@#28: My favorite Marine joke was, “If you put a Marine in a romm with three bowling balls, he will steal one, lose the second and break the third.”
As a leader of Marines, my primary task usually involved teaching them how not to break a bowling ball.
I have been thinking recently about growing old. Unless we die in an accident all of us, even the health nuts are going to die.
Not many people die healthy. Before we die someone is going to need to take care of us. Usually for weeks maybe even for months. I am not a medicare expert but I am under the impression that there are many medical bills that are not fully reimbursed by medicare. A relative recently survived a stroke. She no longer needs to be in a hospital but she can not take care of herself either. This is creating quite a finacial strain upon her family, at least in the short term.
What troubles me is that the savings rate of the vast majority of Americans seems to be to low to be able to build up a large enough nest egg to be able to finance an extended period of old age nursing care. As things stand now,if we want to imagine what a middle class life is we have to imagine not only a SUV and a flat screen TV, and vacations but also enough money saved up to pay for our likely future obligations.
The thing is who can say if this low rate of savings is the result of a collective failure to think properly about the future or if it a collective result of many families needing to spend almost all of their money on urgent requirements.
The charachteristics that I would like to see America’s LTCs emphasising to thier soldiers and their soldiers families and to America’s families are:
1.) Compassion
2.) Wisdom
3.) A willingness to laugh at ones self
4.) Curiosity
5.) Absentmindedness
Ok physical strength and endurance is somewhere on my list but it is so low that I forgot where I put it. Excessive strength can be a source of protection. It can also be a temptation towards abuse.
@#30 Curteous Curt:
Huh? Did we miss something in the topic that is further explained in the comment above?
I see how one goes from near death experience to thoughts about death to thoghts about growing old to thoughts about accumulating money to cover ones expenses in old age when one can no longer work. At some time in the past there was this dud anmed Can’t living somewhere where few Americans dare to go. He stated this rule if you think that something is a good idea it has to pass the test of if everyone did it what would the consequences be. If they were bad then you should not do it. This test stated by that dude is very appropriate for the saving for old age idea. The thing is if everyone really want to do some serious savings for old age banks would quickly accumulate a lot of money. Intrest rates would fall because banks would have lots of money to lend out. But it does not take an economist to figure that there is a big but here. Inventories would also grow as workers would not buy the things that they were paid for to produce. With inventories growing business would have to lower prices to reduce inventory which would lead to lower than expected profits which would trigger a round of either layoffs or wage reductions. For so many years I fell for the Libertarian line which was copied by the republicans that if only the government did nothing an economy would be drawn to an equilibriam of full employment with out inflation. Either I have become much smarter in my old age or my ability to reason has gotten soft. Sadly there is no one to tell what is happening to my ability to think. With my earlier understanding of economics I understtod that my inclination to try to save large amounts of money was not bad for the economy. Now I understand it differently. Yet, I am not one to promote debt and frivolous spending habits. What I do lean to is that people start thinking about living by differnt economic rules than humans have lived by in the past. Now… Read more »
Huh???
Yat Yas,
Maybe you do not understand accents very well. Iranians speak very slowly. They drag each word out like they are on heroin.
That is in contrast with Arabs who sound like they are on cocain. I myself do not have as much trouble understanding an Arab or a Persian English accent as I do a Scottish Accent.
Those Scots can cause real problems when thery are put in positions of authority.
Guys, it’s obvious, Curt escaped from his keepers, yet again and is off his meds. Soon, he’ll be returned to the institution he walked away from, and put back on his program of meds, and he won’t be wasting bandwidth and clogging up threads with nonsense.
