Congressman begins 24-hour hunger strike in solidarity with Occupy DC protesters
A Congressman started a 24-hour hunger strike Thursday evening as a sign of solidarity with four Occupy DC protesters who have fasted for more than a week.
Minnesota Democrat Keith Ellison announced on his Twitter page earlier today that he’ll forgo food or drink for one day to support the demonstrators who haven’t had a bite to eat since 8 December.
‘started my 24 hour solidarity fast last night. May the DC vote and budgetary independence prevail!,’ Ellison tweeted.
I doubt that the Occupy DC folks are actually starving themselves, but even if they are – who cares? I don’t mean that in any cruel way, just sincerely curious, who gives a shit?
Regardless, this congress critter is demonstrating how to seize the high moral ground indeed. For 24 hours anyway…

A 24-hour hunger strike? Is that consecutive hours or 2 hours per day for 12 days between the hours of 2 and 4 a.m.?
Again, with both sets of assholes, who cares? Neither sets is being harmed (except in their own twisted minds), the fast is for only a short time, and what point is being made?
Many religious peoples around the world have regular (monthly) 24 hour fasts, to give the body a rest and to help clear the mind. So it’s not like a 24 hour fast is new, or unusual, or different.
If either of these sets of assholes wants to claim the moral high ground, then go out and actually DO SOMETHING MORAL. And this ain’t it.

He’s an attention whore and basically worthless. Yeah, a 24 hour hunger strike, big whoop, way to sacrifice there scooter. Maybe if Ellison had to really worry about where he was going to get his next meal in the the 24 hours, or the 24 after that, and so on, he wouldn’t make a joke out of it.
Maybe he’ll do a Cindy Sheehag special and only drink smoothies and ice cream shakes during his “hunger strike”.
And 24 hours? Really? Do it for a week or so and get back to me.
