Clarksburg VAMC – A Bit of a Pleasant Surprise

| November 22, 2011

Went to their ER as a walk–in.

Check-in took a few minutes.

Hadn’t been in the place for years and so I was escorted to the place for blood work and ex-rays.

Again it took just a few minutes for both.

Back to the ER and a treatment room.

Test results take a finite time to process, but still didn’t amount to much over a half hour.

The doctor did have a rather thick accent, but was professional.

Thing is…  I was genuinely astonished.  And pleasantly so!

I will continue to rail mightily against bureaucracies and their ilk, but I WILL also acknowledge when things do work.

Of course, another time and another facility might be different, but it sure seemed those folks were trying and I wanted to say Thanks.

More often than not, when you can get access to VA health care, it’s really pretty good. Good for you to recognize it’s worth commenting when something works well, rather than just raging against the system when it doesn’t. That doesn’t happen nearly often enough.

I go to VAMC in DC for 90% of my health care needs and I’ve never had reason to complain about things there.

S6R…had my first hip replacement done at VAMC-DC in 85′. My doctors were from Georgetown. Best doc’s ever. BUT the hospital was the filthyist place I’d ever been in my life. It was a nightmare. A “step-little brother” of mine was in residency at George Washington University Hospital. He would drive every day to the VAMC to make sure they hadn’t killed me with infection. The staff, except for one nursing assistant, were the worst I’ve ever seen. I could write a book about what a nightmare this place was. I’m glad to hear that it has changed. I can honestly say I did not expect to get out of there alive.

Clarksburg,WV VAMC is where I go when my clinic in Parkersburg can`t handle it.I have nothing bad to say about Clarksburg VAMC.Headed to the local clinic today for bi-annual check up with my Doc.The clinic is also top notch. No problems whatsoever, that I have encountered.I just wish it was like that for everybody.

Good experience at the Fort Dodge VA Clinic last week.
The nurses were prompt, courteous, and concerned.

I go to the Sioux Falls, SD VA for my annual check-up and they are always professional (yet friendly) and efficient…that bugs my wife. She drops me off for my appointment then goes shopping but before she can get her cart filled to overflowing I am calling her to come pick me up.
