Too lazy to occupy DC full time
TSO sends a link to a Washington Examiner report of the latest one hour occupation of McPherson Square in downtown DC just off of K Street.
At exactly 6:00 PM, about 40 people gathered on the only portion of McPherson square that is clear of tents, and began their discussions. The agenda included a brief welcome, a reading of guidelines, a review of their unique voting process, committee reports, a “de-escalation” brainstorm, and announcements.
Apparently, that’s it, they have a one hour meeting every night and that’s the extent of their “occupation”, that’s occupation in the sense that they take up space, not in the sese that they have jobs. And they’ve developed a secret hippie code to communicate their pleasure and displeasure with their one hour protest;
To keep the noise level down, protesters use hand signals instead of vocal commands to demonstrate opinion. “Twinkle fingers,” performed by wiggling fingers at ear level, shows approval. “Fact check,” which imitates the rapid-fire of two revolvers, requests a confirmation of logistics. The “block”, which brings the forearms into an X shape, “is very powerful, very rare. It shows your opposition to a proposal is very strong,
So basically, the only reason this “occupation” exists is for the one hour social event every night and to make unsightly pests of themselves, because they’re certainly not getting anything accomplished except giving the world a glance at what government would look like if the hippies had their way. And, you can’t see me right now, but I’m all twinkle fingers over here.
Category: I hate hippies, Occupy
Tea Party protesters were the greatest heroes ever. Occupy protesters are a bunch of stupid hippies. I like how its ok for you to paint with a broad brush with occupy but when people said tea party folks were all racists you said it was a liberal media.. You’re just a pawn for the right wing lilyea I wonder who gives you your marching orders.
Jonn, disagree: there’s still a sizeable contingent across from the WH. K Street is the Go-To spot for DC. This sounds more like a rehearsal in the event some reluctant politicos and moneymovers need a bit of terrorizing.
OG: If I were to guess, I’d say his wife.
Hippie version on the Macarena?
Biermann, yep, done to drum beats instead of music. “Occupy protesters are a bunch of stupid hippies.” Glad even you finally caught on, OG.
Attention Fellow Occupiers:
We are losing our target audience AND the media due to the filth we are reflecting and generating by our round-the-clock occupation. Therefore, effective today, occupations will not exceed 60-90 minutes. Please, before an occupation, bathe, shave (this includes women with hairy armpits), put on some fresh or not-so-dirty clothes, and go to the bathroom BEFORE you arrive. If you must defecate or urinate in the street, please do so at least 3 blocks away from the occupation site. Thank you and Right On!
“…And you can’t see me right now, but I’m all twinkle fingers over here.”
You DO realize you just gave us your new nickname, right Jonn?
in the immortal wods of the Old Man on Pawn Stars: Oh my Gawd.
TwinkleFingers Lilyea: Heh!
The implication of the title of your post is that the time limitation on the meetings is an indication of “laziness.” I merely point out that several of the PRIMARY concerns regarding the movement would be removed by this time limit. The sanitation and hygienic concerns would(hopefully) become a non-issue. The situations which create the potential for rape(s)and other crimes do not (I think*) arise in a meeting lasting a matter of hours. Many of the legal issues with the movement(trespassing, stealing, property damage, ( I would say violence, but unfortunately there has been precedent otherwise)) do not tend to be concerns with normal, peaceful protest. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a movement which peacefully demonstrates for a “reasonable” amount of time. The issues arise when the “demonstration” becomes something else, and begins interfering with other people’s rights- something which seems to be occurring with the occupy movement. In my opinion, the movement would be more worthy of respect if all of the sections were to adopt time restrictions- though less controversial, which is probably one reason they have not done so.
Huh?
