Dunno If This Is Weird, But….
Some of my friends and acquaintances are planning events for 11/11/11.
Yet we have: VH1 Classic Amps Up For “National Metal Day” On 11-11-11
VH1 is gearing up for our inaugural National Metal Day that will see VH1 Classic host an entire day of metal-only programing.
Can anyone tell me why? I DO love metal…it’s likely I’ve been a metal head since before many here were born, but Veteran’s Day???
I can’t join with my friends in DC, but I CAN eschew VH1.
Why the hell did they choose Veteran’s DAY???
Category: Geezer Alert!, General Whackos
Why, Zero? Because they don’t know what 11-11 means, that’s why. They’re ignorant of everything except music, and maybe the Occuturds.
Because, they are doing their best to wipe history clean of anything related to veterans? Oh wait….we scare them. Never mind…
Okay, compared to most of the vets on here, pale in comparison when it comes to combat experience or real hands-on warfare knowlege. But finally! A subject where my ability to retain useless info comes in handy. VH1 is obviously paying homage to the classic mock-u-mentary “This Is Spinal Tap” In one of the memorable scenes from the movie, Nigel Tunfel(Christopher Guest) explains why their amplifiers are superior to those of other 80’s hair bands. “These Go To Eleven!” Okay so they are ignoring Veteran’s Day to pay tribute to uber-liberal Rob Reiner’s movie that many of my friends don’t find nearly as funny as I do. But, I’m willing to give them a pass on this one. Here’s a link to the scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbVKWCpNFhY HELLO CLEVELAND!!!!!!!!
Don’t think it was anything intentionally disrespectful to vets, but definitely in reference to Spinal Tap.
I dunno, lot’s of Veterans are Metal Heads….
Iron Maiden Tail Gunner anyone!!
Why do I get the feeling that Judas Priest covers that song every once in a while?
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. . . All is quiet on the Western Front.
A real shame that so few people know this. Also a shame that no one knows the last man to die in WWI was an American.
My daughter (a USAF veteran) is getting married on 11/11/11. I guarantee you she knows what the day represents.
Plus, it will be easy for her guy to remember 😉
They chose 11/11/11 because if you hold up your fingers in a metal salute, it makes 11/11/11. I thought they had shitcanned this idea earlier though. I find it insulting, even though I do love Iron Maiden.
Will VH1 be having a Barry Manilow day for you elderly vets?
I’m a huge metal head and understood why they were doing the day of Metal. I even know some metal bands that love those of us in the military, I don’t think it was meant to be intentional but at least it’s not a Jersey Shore marathon. I’d rather march in the parade up in NYC then go home, watch some old great war docs and then later crank up the metal.
