Speaking of Pot

File under things that make ya go Hmmm….

4 Americans get pot from US government

Sometime after midnight on a moonlit rural Oregon highway, a state trooper checking a car he had just pulled over found less than an ounce of pot on one passenger: A chatty 72-year-old woman blind in one eye.

She insisted the weed was legal and was approved by the U.S. government.

The trooper and his supervisor were doubtful. But after a series of calls to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Agency and her physician, the troopers handed her back the card – and her pot.

It’s only 4 people, but the precedence is a bit scary. We have food stamps, why not pot stamps? Or… wait for it… outright BEER stamps?

Somewhere in some cubicle the bureaucrat who manages this program is wondering about ways to keep his job when these 4 die off.

Beer stamps…hmmmm.

Frankly Opinionated

I have a family member who is getting “Beer Stamps”. She has claimed alcoholism as her “disability”, and gets SSI, the Stamps, n the whole package. Now she is the queen of the local American Legion Cheap Beer bar, drinking “Red White n Blue” or PBR, (or whatever is the cheapo of the day.

They say they are supplying it to them for “compassionate reasons.” Is that a legal definition? Does that mean they got them hooked and now they have to supply it? WTF..

Seriously this is my biggest concern about legalizing marijuana and drugs straight out… Some government program that will be passed to “compassionately” supply the drugs. The government will bill it under some feel good program where this way they can regulate the amount of drugs someone takes, so there will be no overdoses. Libertarian ideas are great if they happened in a bubble- but they don’t. We also have to contend with some feel good politician passing a government program where we have to pay for someone to enjoy these “freedoms.”

Gov’t pot stamps. The outrage! At least here in Colorado we pay for our legal pot with our own hard-earned money……

PintoNag

Yup. We pay for “ours,” too. It’s called Medicaid.

We still have people whining over the fact that you have to provide a doctor’s letter to apply for medical marijuana. Go figure. They wanted it for medical reasons, didn’t they?

Of course they did.

play nice

Oregon marijuana “patients”
OMMP Statistics as of 7/1/11
Number of patients currently holding cards 49,220

I believe they grow their own as dope co-ops were shut down.

Perhaps a conervative against medical marijuana is a conservative hasn’t been robbed by glaucoma or bone cancer yet?

Do we really think pot would be illegal if you could only get it the same way people get oxycontin? Oxy would be illegal too if you could grow it.

CI

@7 – “Oxy would be illegal too if you could grow it.”

Oxy would be illegal if it was in direct competition to the cotton lobby as well.

>Perhaps a conervative against medical marijuana is a conservative hasn’t been robbed by glaucoma or bone cancer yet?

I am against all the fraud that has gone along with “medical” marijuana. Medical Marijuana is available in pill form, so those not in terrible pain(like cancer patients) could take it in pill form with less side effects. The truth is that people with “headaches” are getting it. Lest you think I haven’t been robbed by glaucoma… I have an autoimmune disease that can be debilitating at times. It can also cause glaucoma like symptoms.
