More F&F guns discovered at Mexican crime scenes

| September 2, 2011

Fox News reports that 21 more crime scenes in Mexico were found to have involved guns that the BATFE allowed across the border;

“The Justice Department has been less than forthcoming since day one, so the revisions here are hardly surprising, and the numbers will likely rise until the more than 1,000 guns that were allowed to fall into the hands of bad guys are recovered — most likely years down the road,” Grassley said in a statement released Thursday.

“What we’re still waiting for are the answers to the other questions the Attorney General failed to answer per our agreement. The cooperation of the Attorney General and his staff is needed if we’re ever going to get to the bottom of this disastrous policy and help the ATF and the department move forward.”

Meanwhile some dunce named James Verini at Foreign Policy magazine is trying to tell us that we should be grateful for the failed operation;

Whatever its flaws, the program marked a major and welcome shift in the federal government’s attempts to combat border gun-trafficking — a fact not even its creators are willing to admit to now.

Really? Whatever it’s flaws? Flaws like the death of one American law enforcement officer and countless innocent Mexicans? Flaws like thousands of weapons in the hands of criminals with an assist from the US Federal government? Flaws like the erosion of our rights to protect ourselves from those same criminals that the BATFE helped to arm?

One big problem in law enforcement is when you have REMF, admin, desck jockey, semiretarded, inbread, dumbass dips come up with a plan like this without having a back up plan. Real street cops could have told you that once an item goes across the border, you will have no control or way to track it untill it’s been used in a bad way.

I have a left wing friend of mine who claims all of this is selective outrage compared to the “thousands” of weapons that have made their way into Mexico from other sources inside the US. His assertion is that this is only a political witch hunt aimed at taking out Holder and making the DOJ and BATF ineffectual as they try to rein in gun violence. I tried to remind him that while there are indeed illegal gunrunners out there making things worse, this is the first recorded instance of a government agency actively using illegal means to accomplish some completely fucking stupid scheme in which they discover those involved in illicit gun trafficking. Response? Racists want to take down Holder and tie this to Obama. I think I’m going to be one friend short by the weekend.

Issa needs to keep after these nitwits.

Claymore; the thing that leftists don’t want to admit is that those thousand guns would have never been purchased had the ATF not told the gun shops to sell them, even though it went against every rule that is normally followed. The gun shops did what they were supposed to do in contacting the ATF with their concerns in the beginning. The ATF screwed the pooch by attempting to implement one of the dumbest ops I have ever heard of.

Well, with Melson now working at the DoJ, I doubt that he’ll ever answer any questions now. Holder has him where he can be monitored, and his actions watched, so he doesn’t cooperate with any of the committees.
And, CI Roller Dude is correct. I’m sure any of the field agents of the BATFE could have, and would have, told the higher ups that this wasn’t going to work. They probably did tell them that, and were told to STFU.

The only flaws, near as I can tell, are they got caught, and then got caught covering it up.

Wonder how much money these clowns in these alllege police agencies pocketed in year-end merit bonuses and intangibles?

It’s probably just as well this came to light, though. If the operation had not come to light, I can see where political moves could have been made, using the very real fact that these weapons did come from the US (although of course not explaining how they did that), to tighten the restrictions on gun sales inside the US.

Haven’t seen it yet, but thinking Holder’s next step is to blame Bush for starting the project, and the TEA Partiers for selling guns to Mexican narco-cartels.

Once that’s done, the press will cease any and all coverage of it.

Here’s what kills me: It’s more than just the BATFE. In order to sell these guns, not only did the gun owners have to have the BATFE sign off on it, but the FBI had to sign off on the background checks going through as well.

That means that the FBI was also in the loop, and that was confirmed by Melson’s testimony, as well as the testimony of on-the-ground BATFE agents who came forward to complain about all of this.

More than likely, ICE had to be involved in order to help facilitate all those weapons getting across the border. especially by folks who, in all likelihood, were flagged already for “extra searches”.

None of this happens without DoJ giving the all-clear, and also without DHS being on on the action, as there is no possible way that DHS wouldn’t have picked up traffic in this many weapons cross-border and NOT done some due-diligence looking into it.

That means that both Holder AND Napolitano were in the loop, and that realistically means that Obama was in the loop as well, because you know damned well that nothing gets done without his micro-managing involvement.

Bingo, Tim. And that explains the media’s desperate wish to do nothing and be left alone to do just that. If they kicked at the edge of this turd, the stench would nauseate them. But, they don’t want to, they’d be forced to examine the record of he who is not qualified, and the dealings that got F & F to this point, and who was involved.
My wife sells guns at a Wal-Mart, so she knows, the Feeb’s had to sign off on letting lots of these guns walk, because the buyers were convicted felons.
So, at the least, we have the DoJ, FBI, BATFE, ICE, DHS and ICE involved, which almost/s certainly means that the White House was involved.

UpNorth

The almost was meant in sarcasm, forgot to space the indicator.

PurpleDragon

You know this was cooked up with the idea that the gun-shop owners and the field agents would keep quite, a very unlikely prospect.

The words massively dumb comes to mind especially if they had started to prosecute said gun-shop owners.

AW1 Tim,
You’re on the right track — but there are even more people involved, including DEA and FBI (some of the Mexican end- purchasers were paid informants for FBI and DEA),and IRS (IRS is under Treasury, so that means Geithner). Also, good chance of Hillary Clinton being involved, because State Dept. is in charge of granting exemptions to Export Control Act, which deals with arms sales to foreign customers.
