Derik Hembree arrested.
It seems that Derik Hembree was arrested in Lawton, Okla.
Derik Hembree was caught in Lawton, Okla. Wednesday night on a felony warrant for the kidnapping of his daughter Brooke. He has been AWOL from Fort Carson since May and his family has been worried about the safety of both him and the baby.
Colorado Springs Police told TARGET 13 Investigates that Brooke was dropped off at a Lawton, Okla. fire station Tuesday night, with a note with all of her information.
Brooke’s mother, Nicole Brewer, says her daughter was in good health and will be back in Colorado Thursday night.
Also it looks like TSO’s fears about him being a crazy vet as a defense being validated.
She tells TARGET 13 by phone that Hembree was injured in Iraq and that his personality had changed over the last year.
“He’s been in a lot of pain and I knew the Army has got him on a lot of medication nad that’s when he started to see the change in Derik,” says Calloway.
Update: I got a hold of author of the post about his past and he said that he would look into his military records. I will post when I get a reply.

It seems that the child was in care of the state and it was the state’s opinion that nether parent have full custody.
Local investigators said previously that Hembree allegedly knocked on the door Tuesday night at a Lawton fire station, handed his daughter to the fireman there and ran away. It is not known why Hembree fled from Colorado with the child, who was in the custody of the Department of Human Services but living with Hembree.
Colorado Springs authorities would not disclose why the child had been removed from her mother’s care, but a DHS representative said they preferred to place children with a family member before entering the child into foster care.

Dude has a problem, one that can only be cured by setting him on fire.
It’s become a cliche these days for any person with military service (and even no service for that matter) to blame PTSD for every single one of their problems and crimes. More so with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This is why I have become jaded at claims of PTSD, which sadly detracts from those who legitimately have this illness.
Has “Suck it up, soldier”, gone out the window? Are we no longer responsible for our actions? My father was in WW-II, Infantry, and some of his buddies were “Shell-Shocked”,(PTSD with the name of the day), but still expected to be responsible for their actions. I know that mental illness is out there, and feel for those who have it, but still, we are expected to be citizens.
War is hell, and I don’t know of any combat veteran who would say otherwise, but it is NOT a crutch to prop up ones own acts and deeds for the rest of his/her life.
Y’all may or may not agree, but I think one reason we see more PTSD is that more troops who would have died in previous conflicts (we have improved armor/medical technology). That’s not to say there aren’t people using that as an invalid excuse for their bad behavior, but it is something to consider. I don’t know enough about this particular guy to be a judge.
Miss Ladybug has it right. Many of our dead of previous wars would have lived given todays medical tech.
The problem is anyone with a military background seems to be jumping on the ‘PTSD’ bandwagon.
In the past months I’ve read stories of an Air Force mechanic claiming PTSD for running over and killing a pedestrian in the L.A. Times, and recently some guy who raped a baby claiming PTSD. I’m assuming that the ‘standards’ for putting in a claim for PTSD these days aren’t as stringent as they could be.
PTSD isn’t found only in military operation-related trauma; it can develop in any situation where mental/emotional/physical suffering is experienced.
I deployed with him in Iraq……he was never seriously hurt or never had PTSD. He supposedly broke his foot and stayed on base pretty much the whole deployment!! He was a thief from day one in the military……..he stole equiptment from fellow soldiers during the deployment…he had the worst personal heigene habits ever…….never would shower or clean himself unless physically force to lol!! He was bad off before he joined the Army……so to say the Army and medication did this is totally absurd!!
actually im an ex girlfriend of deriks. if u read the article no where does it say he claimed to have anx type of illness it was his childs mother that said it. derik was and im sure still is an amazing person and father. 4 the idiot who claims he deployed with him ur ridiculous. i bet u say that just to makdm urself feel cool when in fact u are probably just a small computer geek that researches anything and everything thdn role plays in that tiny brain of urs new ways on how u can boost ur own self esteem. derik was kind, sweet and funny. he bathed everyday doesnt steal and took care of his daughter but when brookes mother found out he was going to leave her and fight 4 custody she went postal abusively as well. she realized she would get none of his money if he followed through with it. she neglected brooke cuz of it so he ran with her to get her away from that. plz check ur facts first before u start opening ur mouth kiddo!!!!

I find it ridiculous what some of you are saying about PTSD. My husband came home from Afghanistan with PTSD and I know several veterans from past wars that have PTSD. That right there is exactly what is wrong with this country, ignorant morons think it’s a crutch. Well, I can tell you right now, it’s not. It is 100% real. For the asshole that deployed with this young man, he may not have had it when he was in Iraq, rarely does it happen during deployment. My husband didn’t start having any real problems until after he had been home for 3 months. As a soldier, you should care about your brothers in arms instead of slashing them for what you don’t know. You are a pathetic excuse for a soldier for the things you are saying about someone you fought alongside. Even if he was on base throughout deployment, that does not give YOU the right to judge him. I have heard many stories, some horrible and gut wrenching and others not so much, it’s not about what someone has seen, it’s a lot of other factors in the fact of having PTSD. You probably have it too or did at one point, but thought you were to badass to get help or advice. Madam, it seem that you are new here so I will explain.
A good portion of the people who post here have been ether deployed to various combat areas to include Iraq and Afghanistan. I myself have worked with people who were affected by PTSD, but also people who were willing to fake it for various reason.
For the reason that him staying on base having a big part of it is that the chances of you seeing something horrible is very low.
Also if you read further still you would see that he was forging medical documents to get out of work and claiming military honors that he was not entitled to.

Perhaps the easiest way to say it is simply that those of us who have observed real PTSD up close and personal are in the best position to recognize someone faking it.
Calling a fake a fake is no reflection whatever upon those who are not faking. Energy, time, and money spent on fakers is not available for real victims.
And that is why we are ruthless about naming fakers as such. It is the fakers who should be denegrated, not we who call them out.

kasey: Your brother appears to be a liar and a fake. He’s claimed, variously, to have been (1) Special Forces, (2) have a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, (3) been an E7 in the US Army, (4) have his “own place” in Arizona and “drive a Nissan 350Z”, and has made various other claims that are questionable at best. He’s also been fingered as a forger, a thief, and a shirker (and possibly a coward) by some of the other soldiers who deployed with him.
I don’t know the situation regarding his child, so I won’t comment on that. But I will say that I have no tolerance for someone wearing unauthorized decorations, lying about their military record, cowardice, thievery, or forging documents to get out of duty. I have had custody of Brooke Lynn every since she got back into Colorado Springs from Oklahoma. I am amazed at all the false statements on here from people that claim to know the facts! Even “truths” portrayed from Derik’s own sister that are false. Here are a few truths: 1. Derik kidnapped Brooke without taking a blood test to prove he was the father. This blood test was finally given to him when Brooke was 6 months old and he was in jail. So yes he did not even have proof that this was his daughter when he kidnapped her. 2. The former social worker Rene Ludeman was fired from the case due to: a. Claiming Stacy Hess whom Derik lived with was his step-sister (support system) for him to have the baby go home with him from the hospital. b. Claimed she had talked with his commanding officer and he was not AWOL from the army. c. Claimed she did not have in her possesion reports from several professionals of Derik’s physical abuse of another of my grandchildren. All of these facts and many more came to light once Derik abducted Brooke. The social worker Rene Ludeman totally screwed up! So Kasey Hembree’s statement that he ran because the state was going to give the baby back to my daughter Nicole is a completly false statement! He ran because his girlfriend/roomate called the police on a boy in the neighborhood that had touched her little daughter. Stacy/girlfirend got scared and packed up her kids & took off because she was scared DHS would take her children. This left Derik in the home by himself, no job, no money, and no way to support Brooke. He got scared that DHS would take Brooke away and THIS IS THE ONLY REASON HE LEFT!!
