Threat of gun, not laws saved man on Capitol Hill

| July 20, 2011

Jimmy LaSalvia of GOProud, the gay conservative organization, was riding his bicycle on Capitol Hill last week when he was confronted by a gang of youths. When LaSalvia reached in his backpack for his phone, that action made them think he was reaching for a gun and scared them off;

The story rings true to me because I’ve been confronted by youth gangs in DC when I used to ride my bicycle to work daily through some pretty rough neighborhoods. My only option was to peddle faster when I saw the gangs get interested in my bicycle which worked for the most part. Of course, everyone is a target in DC since non-criminals aren’t carrying guns outside their homes.
