Old Navy’s Operation Troop Donation

| June 29, 2011

The folks at Old Navy want me to tell about their Operation Troop Donation drive this weekend;

· When: July 1-4

· Where: All Old Navy stores (www.oldnavy.com for locations)

· What: Old Navy will be collecting essential items like tees, socks, and flip-flops as well as matching any cash donation up to $100,000. Participating customers will receive a 10% discount off their entire purchase in-store that day.

I know a couple of you could use a 10% discount on clothes for those herds of kids you’re raising. More information here.

This is a great idea, but I do ask that those who participate have some class and dignity, and show respect towards the troops, by donating NEW items. Whenever I participate in these sorts of donations, I make sure to purchase brand new items from the grocery store or places like Target.

For example, don’t be like those who used the recent disasters in Joplin as an excuse to “donate” what amounted to used junk and a way to clear out your house. I read reports of buildings full of unusable junk from across the country, just sitting there, that served absolutely no purpose to the survivors of the tornadoes.

In my opinion nothing is more insulting to those who defend our countries by ridding your medicine cabinets of half used chapstick that expired a decade ago.
