Libyans report female Colombian snipers fight for Qadaffi
The Washington Times reports that Libyan rebels are telling tales of mysterious Colombian women who are snipers for the pro-Qaddafi forces;
No Colombians have been captured or killed, but rebels this week said they have received accounts of their deadly marksmanship from pro-Gadhafi prisoners and from eyewitnesses in the besieged city Misurata, the largest city in western Libya still under partial rebel control.
Rebel sources said the Colombians are part of a wider force of snipers firing from vantage points atop buildings in Misurata.
“They are shooting to kill,” said Khalid, a doctor in Misurata who gave only his first name. He said most of the injured have head, chest and neck wounds.
Colombian women have long been the subject of myths among Latin American men wherever alcohol flows – no one can hire Colombians as domestics without tongues wagging. But the markswomen of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) is a new phenomenon;
FARC also has highly trained female fighters capable of handling modern firearms, said Jaime Daremblum, a former Costa Rican ambassador to the United States who is director of the Center for Latin American Studies at the Washington-based Hudson Institute.
That’s another reason to resist inserting US forces into Libya. I don’t think our troops could handle shooting women very well, which is probably why Qaddafi is using them.

So here’s a deadly new twist on the “human shield” idea. Put a lethal weapon into the hands of someone our troops would be reluctant to fight. Hopefully our troops would overcome their reluctance quickly, should they ever face a female sniper — or any other enemy combatant, for that matter.
The flip side of the coin of equality for women is that when you play, you WILL pay. Or should.
Well the FARC is funded and trained by Qadaffi’s good buddy Chavez. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that there is some bizarre exchange program going on (Libya long a training ground for external forces) but this thing sounds pretty bogus in a urban myth sort of way.
Ahhh….the infamous “female sniper”. I believe that every army has fought “female super warriors”.

Unless said female sniper is conducting her business in a semi-sheer bikini, our snipers would snuff them like a cheap candle. It’s our spotters I worry about. They may hesitate by wondering if the female sniper has an unmarried sister of legal age.
As Dave says, I don’t believe too many American combatants would have a problem greasing foreign female troops. Stand between a good soldier or marine and their objective and you’re most likely going to be come the immediate objective, to your detriment.

The Russians trained female snipers, and used them successfully, in WWII. Perhaps the most famous of these was Lyudmila Mikhailivna Pavlichenko.
(And yes, I am also aware that there is a segment of experts who have always claimed that this was nothing but pure communist propaganda.)

Sparky, here’s a historical sidebar for you: female ninjas really did exist. They didn’t do the over-the-wall stuff their male counterparts were accustomed to; they were the true female assassin article! They were trained in all of the entertainment arts, but with a twist: their decorative fans’ shafts were honed to razor sharpness…their elaborate long pins to hold their wigs and hair were dipped in poison…and poison was their preferred weapon, finding its way into both tea and saki. You might be entertained by one of these beauties, but surviving the “entertainment” could easily prove to be the trick!!

I was down in the Little Colombia section of Big Pine Key, (or was it No Name Key), partying hard, and woke the next morning with the taste of Colombian lipstick on my mouth and a headache like nothing ever before. Must have been one of them Femalian Colombian Snipers. Or, possibly, a female student from Columbia U. Who knows?
