KSM to be tried in Guantanamo – and it’s the (R)s fault

| April 4, 2011

The Associated Press, in their rush to report that the Obama Administration is about to report that they’re going to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the 9-11 mastermind, in Guantanamo instead of Manhattan (like they said they were going to do back two years ago) decides that it’s the fault of Republicans that Obama’s campaign promise has collapsed;

President Barack Obama had tried, and failed, to overcome objections by Republicans and some of his fellow Democrats in Congress to transferring some detainees to U.S. prisons and trying Mohammed and others in federal courts.

On March 7, Obama reluctantly lifted a two-year freeze on new military trials at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

Of course, the Democrats controlled Congress, and the President’s agenda, for the two years since his Executive Order on the day after the Inauguration, so it really wasn’t the Republicans who caused this failure at all. He was fighting his own party and public opinion because of the half-witted plan.

The MoveOn/VoteVet crowd thought the issue was a slam dunk because their self-imposed echo-chamber discussion, but Americans understand the issue better than the BDS Left.

Bush Tax Cuts. Obama campaigned against them and then adopted them.

Bush’s Patriot Act. Obama campaigned against it and them adopted it.

Bush’s GTMO trials? You get the point.

It’s going to be interesting to see the campaign rhetoric unfold between “Obama 2008” and “Obama 2012.” His worst opponent will be himself.

PintoNag

Unless the conservatives really mess up with their choice of candidate, I don’t see where the rhetoric in 2012 is going to matter very much; it’s going to turn into a SERIOUS case of “us vs. them.”

Eric Holder being the giant boob that he is, talking about taking a guy only a couple hundred meters from his greatest success in life seemed to upset people. What really made me laugh is that they also didn’t get the “bad idea” memo of not telling anyone that low flying Aircraft might freak people out.

It is easy to spout off at the mouth about ideals, and suggest all manner of horrific “fixes” that end up being worse than the problem. . . but actually implementing them is Pretty freaking hard. Especially when your constituency freaks the hell out about how crazy you’ve gotten.

“To blame Republicans is to ignore the time line of events.” But, but, Ears’ intentions were good, and that’s all that counts, right? After all, the evil R’s were determined that KSM be tried at Gitmo, by the military, for an act of war, and the benificent D’s were determined that he be tried, in a civilian court, at the site of his success. What could possibly have gone wrong with that scenario?/sarc.

DaveO

If there’s one single, definitive characteristic of this POTUS, it’s his consistency in blaming unDemocrats.

Of course, the GOP ‘could’ change the game and take credit for Gitmo trials, appeasing all of the NIMBY voters. ‘POTUS Buckles Under Strong Conservative Leadership on KSM Trial!’

But, as Jonn mentioned, that would be playing to win. The GOP isn’t known for its killer instinct.

They do, I’m told, make a killer martini though.

southernsue

what has taken so long to kill this pos.

i will vote for any republican person, as long as i know he was born and raised here in the USA!

i will never vote demonrat. the democratic party has been hijacked by satan. the great USA, last battle ground for satan, his biggest challenge, us BIBLE toting, gun loving and freedom loving conservatives. will he win or will we freedom loving Americans?

Old Tanker

Blame Republicans?? Great, let’s change that line to “Give Republicans Credit”…….oh wait….

PintoNag

@#7: If the Republicans don’t develop that killer instinct before 2012, they’re going to need their killer martinis.

DaveO

#10 PN:

Why should the establishment GOP burden themselves? Campaigns are so hard; and there’s the TEA Party activists willing to do all the heavy lifting. And then there’s the NRCC and NRSC campaign coffers to loot…

I once had a chocolate martini. It was the bomb!

PintoNag

DaveO: I agree with your assessment as far as the GOP goes.

A chocolate martini?? That’s like cherry-flavored cough syrup; all you do is take something that tastes nasty to start with AND MAKE IT WORSE!

DaveO

#12 PN,

It must’ve been all the whiskey ingested beforehand. Jamesons can cloud judgement. I may have to experiment! Melted choco + Jameson. If I wake up in the hospital, that’s your clue not to do.

PintoNag

Okay, I probably shouldn’t do this, but here goes. Skip the Jameson and chocolate. Try peppermint schnapps and chocolate. See what you think.

DaveO

Would I be coherent enough to think, PN?

Still, will do!

UpNorth

For a change of pace, try Kahlua and OJ. Tastes like a tootsie roll, if made right.
I prefer Mist and soda, but that’s just me.
“The GOP isn’t known for its killer instinct”. Sadly, way too true. Most of them are busy “reaching across the aisle”, not seeing the knife the D is holding behind their back.

DaveO

The primary danger to the TEA Party is that it becomes as ruthless and unprincipled as the Democratic Party. And yet it may have to become so in order to save the Republic.

Doc Bailey

I am pissed about the partisanship about it. have a trial and be DONE WITH IT!!! We’ve been at war for ten years now and we’ve had KSM for what 6? I’m sorry even with an ACLU lawyer representing him this would have been over and done with if this were purely military or civilian trial. That Holder would be such a twit as to try to move the trial to NEW YORK CITY of all places should have been a clear indicator that he wasn’t firing on all cylinders. But Obama could have stepped in made an executive call and been done with it. So could have Bush.

Personally I think we should give them the “blind shaikh” tratment. Throw them in a deep dark hole that na’er sees the light of day and let them die old forgotten and alone. Then bury then in a pork lined casket. But that’s just me. . .
