The footage is incredible and shocking. One TV commentator said its the first complete footage of an earthquake and the resulting wave. Not sure if that’s true but the magnitude is still astounding.

A 7 meter/23 foot wave is no small matter and that they have had fewer than 100 fatalities shows the technology that they have in place. This was very close to them, so alert time was very short. In Indonesia this could well have been a couple hundred thousand, like a few years ago.
California is expecting a 2-3 foot wave now.

Scary, that’s a huge earthquake.

I don’t think we’ll see hollywood celebrities jumping to promote assistance for this one though.

I’ve only been through a couple of small quakes (2.0) since I moved into the Rockies. Those were more than enough; I can’t imagine an 8.0+ quake. That would have to be hell on earth.

Prayers out for those folks in Japan.

Strongest I ever went through was the 1993 Guam quake which was an 8.1. That was bad enough, thanks very much.
