Webb to block Tricare fee increases

| February 16, 2011

I’m beginning to be ambiguous about Jim Webb, the Virginia Senator who snubbed President Bush in the White House four years ago. At least he’s decided to be on the side of veterans in recent years. The Pentagon has proposed to raise Tricare fees for the medical treatment which we were promised would be free while we were serving. Senator Webb has vowed to make the Pentagon keep their promise;

“As someone who grew up in the military and served in the military, I start from the presumption that lifetime health care for career military personnel is part of a moral contract between our government and those who have stepped forward to serve,” said Webb, who heads the personnel subcommittee for the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Webb’s comments came one day after Defense Secretary Robert Gates proposed raising annual enrollment fees for the military’s Tricare health coverage by about 13 percent for working-age military retirees.

Of course, the Pentagon wants to balance their budget on the backs of those of us who don’t work for them any more. If GM or Ford tried to do the same thing with their legacy costs, the Obama Labor Department and Congressional committees would tear them apart. If this was cutting waste and abuse, I’d be all for it, but this punishing veterans for believing the government.

I have ambiguous feelings about some of the senators and Reps that “support” us. I can only home that some of those that claim to support us, save us from the god damn bean counters.

I fully agree with Webb on this. When I enlisted, I was told that lie that if I did 20 years I got free medical for life. B U L L S H I T.

Webb is often a goober, but here I think and agree that he is right. Until the welfare freeloaders, and the other deadbeats that get free money (stolen from us) start kicking in their share and earning their keep, the veterans should not be getting screwed.

The so-called moral contract has been settled in courts a number of times. Just about always in favor of our government not meeting the requirements of said contract, written or unwritten.

On a personal aside, I despise Senator Webb. He possesses the same lack of character and integrity/consistency that drives IVAW and number of other contemptable vets (Murtha, Kerry) and pseudo-vets to seek personal gain through controversy. He’s been that way since prior to becoming the SecNav, and hasn’t changed his focus ever since.

Good for Webb on this one…but I watched the whole Agent Orange Senate Veterans Affairs hearing and he was doing his best to screw over his own brothers. Even Patti Murray made him out to look like an idiot and so did Rockefellar, who is one stand up guy when it comes to vets, way to liberal on everything else. He would not even listen to the evidence of all the doctors on the panel. So…glad he’s helping out the active and retiree’s….glad he’s also not running again.
