F’ville mayor Chavonne invites pacifists to Vietnam veteran “Welcome Home”

| January 24, 2011

Tony Chavonne, a draft dodger and former protester against the war in Vietnam, is now mayor of Fayetteville, North Carolina, home of Fort Bragg. he stepped on his dick last year when he proposed that the city which has a large community of Vietnam Veterans adopt a sister city in Vietnam. Plans were soon scrapped in the face of an uproar among veterans.

Chavonne initially said a sister city could help heal old scars and promote a better understanding of Vietnamese culture. He said on Wednesday that the idea had become a distraction for what he hopes will be a major series of events next year for Vietnam veterans.

So now, Chavonne has an admirable idea – a “welcome home” for Vietnam veterans that they never got. But again, stomping on his dick, Chavonne invited the local Quaker pacifists contingent;

But he has quickly come under fire from veterans following a meeting Wednesday on the event. Chuck Fager led a small contingent representing the Quaker House, a military counseling center supported mostly by pacifists and peace activists that was active in Fayetteville during the Vietnam War.

Fager serves as director of the organization.

On Friday, Chavonne emphasized that the proposals Fager presented at the meeting were neither endorsed by him nor the homecoming committee.

Chavonne said he didn’t know Fager was going to discuss the idea of a series of films giving different viewpoints on Vietnam. Two of the proposed films, the anti-war “Coming Home” and “FTA,” feature actress Jane Fonda.

“That is not the intent of this mayor or committee to disgrace any veteran,” Chavonne said. “It’s part of what we’re trying to deal with. To a veteran, those words are inflammatory.”

Yes, who even knew that the mention of Jane Fonda would incite Vietnam veterans? Well, besides everyone on the fricken planet. Even talking to Quakers is liable to incite most veterans who’ve stood in counterprotests against them in the last decade. Lying, deceitful little toads that they are, James Branum, the Fort Hood lawyer who encourages desertion among soldiers for the cause is a Quaker in his home state of Oklahoma.

Chavonne is an idiot – we hear the “other side” of the Vietnam War every-fucking-day. I commend him for giving veterans a welcome home, but Jane Fonda? Seriously? Coming Home? FFS. What part of Jane Fonda is cathartic?

Fager said the mayor asked him to be a part of the events because he wanted the whole story about the war to be told. Quaker House was founded in 1969, organizing anti-war rallies and helping soldiers who want to get out of the military. Dissent over the Vietnam War is a big part of the conflict’s history, he said.

“And that’s just the truth. If people don’t like it, OK. But it’s still the truth,” Fager said,

No common sense whatsoever.

Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden pi$$ me off to this day. For those that want to lend comfort and support to our enemies I say pull their citizenship. Should have been done then.

I saw a bumper sticker that said “Vietnam Veterans will forgive Jane Fonda when the Jews forgive Hitler” Obviously being a draft dodger he would know ALL about this

ROS

Pray tell, WHAT exactly does he know about “a better understanding of Vietnamese culture”? Was he there?

If he really wants a better understanding, I suggest he look into JPAC and take his happy ass overseas to find those he dishonors.

Asshole.

DaveO

Sooooo joes don’t vote in Fayette Nam?

Ben

Better understanding, blah, blah, blah, all sides, blah, blah, blah, healing, blah, blah, blah.

Back during the Vietnam War, leftists told a whopping lie that most Vietnam vets were on their side. And like most lies that they tell, they eventually came to believe it. That’s why they’re shocked–SHOCKED–that a bunch of Vietnam vets in Fayetteville might not like this kind of “welcome home”.

I know some Quakers too. Despite their assurances to the contrary, I do not consider them a religion. They’re a far-left political movement that drapes itself in the moral authority of religion.

DaveO, I hate to be dense, but I have no idea what you meant by what you said.

PN,

I’m asking what happened on election day to all the soldiers, veterans, and their families who call Fayetteville home? I know there’s a culture of ‘soldiers must not vote because soldiers must serve their civilian masters.’ A former brigade commander gave that order. I countermanded it to my subordinates.

There are also the usual joes vs. locals tensions. When joes and their families don’t participate in local elections, they are practically begging anti-military locals to abuse them.

Fayetteville, of anyplace in the Army and Air Force, should be a very conservative, law-abiding and aware community. So what happened on election day?

PintoNag

Thanks, DaveO. Those are good points and questions.

If they want to show a film I recommend “Hanoi Hilton” which was kept out of the theaters by Hanoi Jane herself..But she couldn’t stop it coming out on video..Hanoi Jane Fonda is a TRAITOR to America and can still be prosecuted..

Ben

Part of Fayetteville is in the 7th North Carolina district. Ilario Pantano, a Marine Corps veteran of Desert Storm and OIF, a superb conservative candidate, ran for that seat just this past November. I thought he was a shoo-in to win.

And he didn’t. Pisser.

Yep, Hizhonor is a big “No Go” at the “Understand the Operational Environment” station.

I can still remember when there was a vinyl sticker emblazoned with Hanoi Jane’s mug, overlayed by cross hairs, stuck in the bottom of just about every urinal in the building that housed the JFKSWCS…yeah, right across form where Bronze Bruce used to be on the plaza.

What a maroon….

Now as for Vietnamese culture…they had good soup, the little loaves of French bread were wonderful, 33 beer was drinkable…and the women were exquisite…and smoking hot.

I know all I need to know about Vietnamese culture. The only thing I came away with were scars and an unfortunate taste for nuc’ mam sauce. So fuck Chavonne, the Quakers, and double fuck Fonda and let’em all eat fish heads.

I never liked oatmeal anyway…asswipes!

I learned about Iraqi culture too. Real great seeing the trash in the streets and the complete apathy of the adults. I may be a culterist bastard, but I’ve had just about all the “understanding” I can take for one lifetime. I know one thing, the Joes did their jobs. It wasn’t a war they chose, and they did their best with absolutely insane ROE. I wish I could say its over, but we here all know it’ll be fought till the last man breathes no more. And even after that day we should all curse the disease that swept this nation that hobbled out society.

The “other side” is WHY we never got welcomed home. I am so sick of hearing that the “anti-war” movement cared so much about us. THEY HATED OUR GUTS! Sometime over a few drinks I’ll tell you all the story of my welcome home party put on by “friends”. Never been to a high school reunion, am in contact with NOBODY I went to high school with. More revisionist history by cowards that couldn’t pack the gear.

Sorry commrade mayor. I’ll pass on this one.

How the hell did Fayetteville NC elect a draft dodger as mayor? The home of Special Forces, the 82nd Airborne Div and Pope AFB is slipping. Should be enough retired military and vets living in the area to keep swine like that on the sidelines. For the most part Quakers are a front for the Commies. Time to get real in the FT. Bragg area.

In case you didn’t click on the link for Big Peace above here is the story and the link for the mayors email to tell him what ya think: http://bigpeace.com/pschweizer/2011/01/24/honor-vietnam-vets-with-jane-fonda-and-anti-war-protestors/

Be polite guys and gals but get your point across. The Vet community here in NC is not happy and the mayor is finding that out.

Bohemond

“I’m asking what happened on election day to all the soldiers, veterans, and their families who call Fayetteville home?”

Many military guys and their families keep their permanent address in their hometown or wherever, regardless of duty station, and vote absentee back home.

Our cars had Florida plates until I was in high school, and I’d never been to Florida in my life!

streetsweeper

There can be good options for being in the military sometimes, Bohemond. For instance, licensing my car in my home state was one hell of a lot cheaper than California…almost $200 cheaper. rofl!

That didn’t make it any easier on the hippies though. They still paid the full meal, real deal price for trying to get on base 8)

Tell me why you think Tony Chavonne was a draft dodger. He graduated from high school in 1973 and then went to college. They were not drafting people who were full time students in those days. The war was over before he graduated. Are you saying he dodged the draft because he went to college? Then so did hundreds of thousands of men you may respect today. But I agree with you on the rest of it.
