New York scores epic fail mailing ballots to military serving overseas

| October 8, 2010

The New York State Board of Elections was given a waiver for complying with the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act if they promised to get the ballots out to voters by October 1st. So, what’s today? The 8th? Those ballots still haven’t gone to voters from New York City and several other counties according to Eric Eversole, the Executive Director of the Military Voter Protection Project. According to an email I received from Eversole;

With only 25 days before the election, thousands of New York military voters now stand on the brink of having their voices silenced in the upcoming elections.

Even if New York City and the New York counties mail absentee military ballots today—that is, 25 days before the election—some of those ballots may not be delivered prior to the election. The Military Postal Service Agency has estimated that it may take up to 30 days for overseas service members to receive their absentee ballots, especially if they are serving on the front lines in a remote location. Under New York law, all absentee ballots must be completed and postmarked prior to the election in order to be counted.

Everyone who is surprised, raise your hand…yeah, me neither. The Justice Department should stop issuing waivers and threaten States with huge fines (plus interest) if they don’t comply. That’s what they’d do to me or you, right?

They ought to make that ritard governor fly the ballots personally to Afghanistan…well, with someone else flying the plane, of course…and take that fuckstick Bloomberg with him.

No fines.

Put the rat bastards in charge of New York’s absentee ballot system into Prison for at least 5 years. Then, take everyone from the Governor on down who is in the chain of command regarding these ballots, and make them ineligible to vote forever. Furthermore, make it illegal for those same folks to ever receive a Federal or State benefit, run for elective office, hold a government job at any level or donate any amount of money or “in-kind” service, including volunteer work, to anyone running for or serving in an elective office.

Our most sacred obligation as a citizen is voting, and these folks have intentionally denied that to thousands of individuals, all of whom apparently place more regard towards their citizenship than these officials.

This is entirely not new. I haven’t had a vote counted yet, because I was always overseas in even numbered years, and my ballots NEVER arrived in time for me to have my vote counted, not ONCE. New York consistently, consistently fails their military voters.

Do they ever give anything that sounds legitimate as a reason they are unable to comply in a timely fashion? It stinks to high heaven that this is a repeating issue. And it’s so FREAKIN’ immoral, it’s got to be a sin!

I think AW1 Tim is on to something.

New York isn’t the only state pulling this crap. I agree with OS54 that AW1 Tim is definitely on to something.

Our ballots arrived weeks after the ’08 election, attributed to mail issues moving through Iraq, even though I could hop on Amazon and have something in 10 days.

The Democratic Party here in PA has actively worked to eliminate the troops votes by forcing ballots not to be finalized until after it was too late to send them out and get them returned.

The Peoples Republic of New York don’t want no stinking patriots voting. Might make it tougher for the marxists to take over.

I find it somewhat disturbing (I’m being nice, here) that the various states are all too worried about “disenfranchised voters”, typically minorities and yet, they very people that keep it so we CAN vote are disenfranchised themselves. It really pisses me off. I’d take it a little further than AW1. In addition, I’d relieve them of any public office and deny them the right or privilege to ever seek or hold a public office ever again.

After the republicans take back congress they should pass a law that says that the vote isn’t final until ALL votes are in.
