Charlotte ICE Operation leads to reduction of activity at construction sites
One side effect of the ICE operation in Charlotte North Carolina is the reduction of construction site activity. Many illegals came here with construction skill sets and work for “under the counter” payment. The construction business saves money, doesn’t have to deal with HR as much, and can pocket more pay. This changes when ICE conducts raids. The “cheap labor” hides, activity goes down, and people post videos on social media.
From Breitbart:
Construction has reportedly come to a near halt in Charlotte as the Trump administration’s immigration campaign remains in full swing.
Reports of stymied construction projects have flooded social media during the first week of the immigration enforcement operation.
A man who claims to be a subcontractor in the construction industry in Charlotte posted a video blasting ICE for chasing off the workers he usually encounters every day.
In other social media posts, Mexican restaurants are closing up shop since so many illegals are no longer out and about in the town. In one, an ice cream shop owner said he has told his Hispanic employees to stay home.
Another man hyperbolically complained that “no one is safe,” despite that immigration agents are only seeking lawbreaking illegals.
One man working at a Charlotte barber shop told agents he became a naturalized U.S. citizen ten years ago, but can’t say it to the agents in English.
One video offers an inside look at a Non Governmental Organization harboring illegal aliens inside their business to shield them from Customs and Border Patrol agents.
But, not everyone in the Charlotte area is sympathetic with the illegals. One woman said that illegals are taking from Americans and breaking our laws, and the excuse of “trying to do better by my family” does not cover breaking the law.

Here in Miami there is large citizen body of naturalized cuban immigrants who barely speak any English, even though they are conservative and voted in mass for Trump.
They studied English to pass the naturalization test, but after that, they only kept speaking Spanish and not only can’t have a conversation in English, but also don’t even try to learn anymore, because they live in Miami where such a large percentage of the population speaks Spanish.
That’s one of the reasons we cannot have mass immigration. People tent to ghettoized themselves and create a cultural environment where they survive without having to go through the hard work of learning a foreign language, culture, laws, and customs.
The Irish did that when they first came over.
So did the Germans, Italians, etc.
It is the grandchildren of [legal] immigrants who speak only English.
In time.
One exception I know of could be the German immigrants who came to Texas in the 1800’s. In Fredericksburg, for instance, an 1800’s form of German was still spoken (along with English) until the 1990s- sadly the German speakers are fading out. It was a place where German linguists could come and hear the older forms of German still spoken.
But they spoke English as well
I am sorry but I have to disagree.
The Irish, German, and Italian immigration waves had a beginning and an end. They ghettoized for a while, but as mentioned by the third generation they were assimilated into the body of the United States.
The problem with the hispanic immigration is that it never ends. The constant influx of immigrants eliminates the demarcation between generations, as second generation immigrants marry newly arrived first generation immigrants, and English never becomes the dominant language and culture at home.
How many of the descendants of Italian immigrants speak italian at home or have anything culturally Italian besides the food?
Zero.
That’s not the case with Spanish.
So, my argument is that to fully assimilate and integrate the new waves of latin American immigrants to American culture we need a stop immigration for at least a generation. Let’s make that, I don’t know, 25 years?
In Maine, twenty years ago, ATM’s had the option of
French or English as the first question.
Now the options are Spanish or English and I see
very few Canadian plates on vehicles.
As someone once said: As goes Maine so goes
the country”
Sorry but I disagree. My mother grew up in AZ. My older Brother was raised by our grandparents who became citizens of AZ when it became a state. My mother was embarrassed because my brother spoke only spanish when he got to school. As a result when I came along, she refused to teach me spanish and only spoke to me in english. She also got upset when anyone referred to her or us as “mexican” because we were US citizens, not mexican. Even back in the 30’s she knew that mexican is a nationality, not a “race”. All of the rest of the clan (Carrillo) in Tucson were bilingual but spoke english primarily. They also were located in Tucson before AZ became a state in 1912 and helped make it a city. The family was proud to be American.
I enjoyed going to Gillespie County TX backed when I was stationed in Bexar County TX in the ’80’s. I may not have said, “Bitte einmal Flasche Lone Star haben?” correctly; but close enough to get served.
Want to have fun? go to any construction site and say “La migra viene aqui manana (mahnyana)” and see how many don’t show up the next day! 🤣😀😂😁
¡Ay carámba!
Charlotte before ICE
Charlotte after ICE
I don’t understand why anyone is surprised by this. It’s kind of the point of the exercise. It’s in the OPORD, right under the part that says “Commander’s Intent”.
Condtruction companies save money by hiring illegals but you can the savings are not passed on to the buyers.
Million-dollar homes built with random day labor!
Those are just some of the jobs Americans won’t do.
Things have changed a lot since I worked construction.
A former employer of mine passed away just last month, aged 76. He was a Vietnam veteran, still bearing the psychological scars of his service, and implored me to do anything besides joining the Army. We shared a first name, and like him, I turned to alcohol to try to drown out my sorrows after my first tour. Anyway, he was a good man, willing to take a misguided teenaged dropout onto his crew while paying a fair wage for the time. I laid rebar and graded concrete. We mostly did residential footers but did get a few commercial jobs and the occasional slab. Later, he let his son start a framing crew, but we were all lower middle-class Whites. This was the ’90s, and most construction crews in my area were White and fit the term “redneck” pretty decently. I remember Mr. Jenkins commenting on one of his buddies’ use of immigrants for his landscaping crew one day. He mentioned that they got the job done much quicker than anyone else. A year or two later, I worked for an a$$hole contractor who treated my friend and me like we were disposable. I at least proved myself enough to be promoted to “cut man”, but both my friend and I were expected to constantly be working, even while the boss and the rest of the crew took 10-15-minute breaks each hour to get high. I noticed then how many other houses were being built in the time it took our crew to finish one. My friend and I also caused a biological hazard when we tipped over a porta-john one morning after getting bored waiting for the others to show up. We learned that what those Hispanic laborers were depositing in that poor plastic craphouse was unlike anything unleashed on the jobsite previously. But yeah, I expect construction sites to suffer just a bit from immigration enforcement. Just like I suspect the Home Depot parking lots are a little emptier. Oh well. Find some motivated and dumb White kids like my friend and I to pick up the hammer… Read more »
Sorry for loss.
My first jobs were very similar to yours minus the illegals. Chiseling dirt and driving nails. On my first job I got 5 dollars a day and all the bean sandwiches I could eat. We tore down old buildings and used what we could to build a camp. Good experience.
Not tired of winning. In other good news, school enrollment is dropping everywhere there is an illegal population base. See ya!
Concur– ¡Vaya con queso!
Go with cheese? What the fuck? What are you trying to say?🤣🧀🧀🧀
That’s fits right along with yesterday’s WOT statement: Sic Semper Hackanus.
If they got it from the last admin…
They gotta eat something on their way home. It pairs well with their whine.
Ooohhh. I see what you did there!
😁
It’s a good thing there are a large variety of cheeses, because they certainly have a lot of whines to pair with.
Cheese makes everything better!
You got your cheese puffs, cheese omelets, cheese burgers, cheese souffles, cheese sandwiches,…….
Anyone wanna-bet that the waiting lines in Emergency Rooms are a lot shorter now? During past years then Immigration Enforcement was lax, they’d go there just for a case of the sniffles knowing that it’s a violation of Federal Law to turn anyone away from there, something told them by “do-gooder” liberals.
20% of the school kids in Charlotte are not showing up for school. Undoubtedly because they and their parents are illegals. La Migra, la Migra!!
VIVA LA MIGRA!!!
Well, if you call these illegal’s construction abilities a “skill” then you are not well skilled either. There is a reason modern houses are crap with massive punch lists of items to fix after the owner finds them. And also, as STSC pointed out, it has not made home prices any cheaper. Just gave contractors another way to cut corners.
The real issue is Americans don’t want to do physical labor, they would rather be obese slobs with deskbound jobs, or suck SNAP benefits at the government tit. AI is going to bring a world of hurt to this young generation.
True dat. Last I checked, AI can’t pull a cable, swing a hammer, or run an oil rig.
Worse, obese slobs with deskbound jobs having a “process”… folk who “just follow instructions” are prime replacements by AI.

Disagree with that, Master Chief.
Americans don’t want to do physical labor because the price of labor has been undercut by illegal immigration.
Once the illegals are out, and businesses have to pay wages based on market demand and supply, Americans will once again do physical labor.
Maybe, maybe not. The Starbucks generation just doesn’t seem to have the work ethic required for physical labor jobs. They prefer zoom meetings and scrum sessions.
I heard that Ford is short a few thousand auto mechanics and the pay is 6 figures.
I wonder what the labor rate is the stealer charges then if they have unfilled mechanic jobs paying 6 figures.
Nowadays, not only must you be a good mechanic, but also a have a good understanding of computers. Maybe the computer skills and a willingness to actually get dirty are where the 6 figure part comes from.
All of these manufacturers would do well to kick the designers in the nuts and tell them to design vehicles that don’t require removing the engine to change a light bulb etc. They can’t get mechanics because they pay book rates and those rates do not line up with the actual time it takes to do most anything. They would do us all a favor and just keep it simple.
” …kick the designers in the nuts… ”
I would definitely dig out my steel toes to participate in that!
” Americans don’t want to do physical labor”
Nobody wants to do physical labor if they have a choice. That’s why they invented education. Done my share of outdoor physical labor in New England winters and Florida summers. And once you get past the age of about 30 it just isn’t as much fun as it was when you are in your 20s. You are more than welcome to it.
Then stop hiring illegals. What kind of braindead, unpatriotic behavior is that? Damn, stupid employers.
