Got a few quickies today –
Did he push too far? A San Francisco denizen name of Troy McAlister has asked his sentence be swapped for a drug addiction and mental-health program.
A career criminal is asking to swap prison time for a drug-treatment program nearly five years after his New Year’s Eve rampage in downtown San Francisco allegedly killed two pedestrians – reigniting fierce debate over California’s woke criminal justice practices.
On Friday, Troy McAlister’s attorney, Scott Grant, asked the court to grant mental-health and substance-abuse diversion under California Penal Code §1001.36, which could allow McAlister to enter treatment instead of facing decades in prison if Judge Michael Begert rules that he qualifies.
Might be worth noting that McAlister’s rap sheet looks like a roll of toilet paper: 91 felonies. NINETY-ONE.
McAlister was on parole on Dec. 31, 2020, when he allegedly drove a stolen car while intoxicated, ran a red light, and killed Hanako Abe, 27, and Elizabeth Platt, 60.Fox News
I know his lawer is just doing what is supposed to be doing, but some in the city are taking note and protesting. In that city I am surprised they aren’t electing him.
In an admission that shocked absolutely no one, Vladimir Putin admitted that Russian air defenses shot down the Azerbaijani flight which crashed near Grozny last year, killing 38.
Putin said the missiles fired by Russian air defenses to target a Ukrainian drone exploded near the Azerbaijan Airlines plane flying from Baku as it was preparing to land in Grozny, the regional capital of the Russian republic of Chechnya, on Dec. 25, 2024.
Speaking to Aliyev on Thursday, Putin said that Russian air defenses that targeted a Ukrainian drone fired on the Azerbaijani airliner because of a “technical malfunction,” adding that two missiles exploded just 10 meters (33 feet) away from the passenger jet. AP
My Russian is beyond weak, but I think that translates to “we did it but it’s all Ukraine’s fault.” Used to hear that sort of line when my kids were like 4.
You would think they would learn. Activists tried over the last two weeks to sail yet another “flotilla” to Gaza, and the Israelis intercepted them yet again. This time there were only 9 boats, supposedly carrying medical supplies and aid, with 150 on board. Take a look at the photo – that is 5 of the 9 boats. Add 15 people per boat, and you have about enough room left over for a few first aid kits, not meaningful aid.
The intervention by Israel comes less than a week after it intercepted a larger flotilla of 42 vessels and detained 450 people. Among them was Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.
Some of those detained from the Global Sumud Flotilla accused Israel of humiliating and abusive treatment while they were detained. Thunberg said she was held in a bedbug-infested cell, denied sufficient food and clean water, and was forced to pose for photos with Israeli flags. UPI

I’d be agreeable to the addiction treatment plan for troy as long as it involved walking off of a plane at 10k feet altitude with a hankie for a chute. I guaranty his addiction would be cured inside of 5 minutes and he would never repeat any offenses.
I hope McAlister is no relation to Tommy McAlister a former co-worker and WW2 Marine Vet who fought on Guadacanal and other Islands

So 9 sailboats with 150 passengers… medical aid means each boat has a bottle of aspirin and a box of bandaids.
Prison is a good way to be drug free. 91 felonies?! That does not even include misdemeanors.

No, McAlister serves his sentence. After that, the state can decide if the want spend more taxpayer funds on him.
Why would any airline fly in an airspace above a declared war zone???
Greta, sorry it wasn’t the ritzy Grand Hôtel Stockholm like you used to. If you don’t want to be in an Israeli jail cell, stay home!
