First story up today is about the NJ governor’s race. If you haven’t been following it, and I can assume you haven’t, the Democrat candidate Rep. Mikie Sherill is the subject of yet another scandal. A week or two ago someone at the National Archives released her un-redacted military records. If you’re a Democrat, you will immediate know that it wasn’t a case of government incompetence, but rather it was done at the direction of the Orange Man, who is bad.

Those records noted that while she did graduate from the US Naval Academy, she was tangentially involved in the massive cheating scandal at Annapolis in the mid-90s while she was a midshipman. While it wasn’t claimed that she cheated, she knew of it, and refused to inform on her fellows when they were breaking the rules. As a consequence, she did not walk with the rest of her class at commencement, but she did get her commission. She served on active duty as a rotary wing Naval Aviator for nine years, leaving the service as a lieutenant.

Since 2019 she’s been a Congresswoman from New Jersey. She’s considered a moderate Democrat, but she voted with Biden’s wishes 100% of the time in the 117th Congress and 92.6% of the time in the next one. It looks like her Congressional career has, by my estimation, been lackluster.

Anyway, in that middling performance as one of the People’s Representatives, she has nominated five kids for appointment to Annapolis (Congressional appointment is the most common way to secure a slot at the service academies). Two of those were her kids. Makes sense to me!

As someone who once lived in NJ and worked in NYC, I do care (eh, sort of) what goes on for some people who are for some unknown reason still living there. I have a different take on Mikie Sherill. I though USNA honor code was and I’m paraphrasing: “I do NOT lie, cheat, steal or tolerate those that do.” If she knew who cheated and did nothing, she would be just a guilty and expelled. What I think happen is she knew, and when the shit hit the fan she informed on the perpetrators. That’s why she’s fighting to keep her records sealed. I don’t see how she knew, had the administration found out she knew, then didn’t cooperate, and then was still able to graduate and commission. She sang like canary to save her own hide. Her husband was also at the USNA at the same time. I wonder what he knew and when?

The current honor “concept” is:

We stand for that which is right.

We tell the truth and ensure the truth is known.

We do not lie.

We do not steal.

Where did the honor code come from?

An Admiral wrote it in 2019.

But the honor code started long ago.

In 1952 there was *gasp* a cheating scandal where test takers early in the day would give questions and answers to cadets who took the tests later in the day. It was actually a well organized system called “doping” (not to be be confused with drug doping).

So the 1953 Naval Academy Class President Ross Perot (yes that Ross Perot) came up with an honor code that you noted above. “To not lie, cheat, steal or tolerate those who do.” The Doping system was trashed.

The honor code was looked at in 1992 when *not another cheating scandal*, happened and then again in 2014 when there was a bunch of cheating at the Nuclear Power School and of course in 2021 after the scandal back at the academy.

Unfortunately cheaters give everyone a bad name. But not walking in graduation was likely signs of a bad things involvement.

You may wonder what happened to Vice Admiral Carter Ret? He has been President of Ohio State since 2024. This is a problem because Ohio State now has a competitive football team. Since when does the lowest seeded team pull off a championship? They had to have been cheating. They must be dealt with.

We all complained about it– why do I gotta do X pushups when she only has to do half and can have twice a much body fat?! Whaaah! (I jest, but you get my point.) The dudes rockin’ those beard profiles weren’t usually benchin’ 270 with 13% body fat, too.

I came into the Army during the CAT IV timeframe. Had Male Soldiers under me that maxed the PT test, weight lifters, superb physical fitness…and they could not do their job in their MOS. They would have gotten us killed. It was a challenge. Years later, standards changed who could come in the Army. In my two back to back combat theater deployments, the Soldiers who worked for me (I was their Rater or Senior Rater) were Combat Arms, i.e. Cross Rifles/Cannon Cockers/Treadheads (all terms of endearment by the way). We were a team. We had to be. Did not matter that they were way younger than me or had the XY chromosome or they were Combat Arms and I was Combat Service Support. Among those male Soldiers, there were different PT standards because of their age. That was not important. We as a team were lucky to do PT…we were first in both sandboxes , OEF and OIF from 2001-2003, working 24/7. My troops were Super. To this day, I am still proud of them because they worked for me as O3/CPTs or O4/Majors and all retired as O6/Colonels. We were White/Black/Hispanic/Asian/Middle East, a very diverse group. They did not give a mouse’s real end that they worked for a XX Chromosome or cared that they could do more pushups than me or that I could do more situps than them. We all wanted to go home ALIVE, not in a bodybag or box. Unfortunatedly, I lost one 11B Major to an IED attack and had to give out several PHs in another attack. After 2 straight years in the sandbox, I had enough. Things were different at the beginning of OEF and OIF (2001-2003). Ask SFC D. He and I were at Bagram together in early 2002. We did not know each other and found out later on TAH that we were there at the same timeframe. There is someone else on TAH that was in Mosel/Bagdad the same timeframe in 2003 when I was there. I was for union busting in schools before I was feverishly adamant about it.

IIRC, my town spends 60% of property tax receipts on those assholes and the toilets in which they “work”.

60%?? You’re getting a bargain s/. Our property tax went up state wide, and i think our school district takes 63?? (64?)%, and a couple schools need new sports facilities. Go figure.

The primary purpose of property tax has always been to fund schools. If you don’t like how they spend the money run for the school board and change it.
