Charlotte stabbing

| September 12, 2025

While at this point (Wednesday) Charlie Kirk’s assassination is dominating breaking news and the classic  mainstream media is dominated by a purported Trump birthday greeting over 20 years old, there is another story in Charlotte, NC.

The video, released by the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), shows Iryna Zarutska, a Ukranian refugee, get on the light rail and sit in front of 34-year-old suspect Decarlos Brown Jr. for several minutes before the fatal incident.

In the video, the suspect is seen looking restless and making faces while sitting behind Zarutska who is seen looking down at her cellphone. After a few minutes, Brown Jr. is seen standing over Zarutska before he allegedly stabs her in the neck from behind with a folding knife.

CMPD said in a press release that Zarutska was pronounced dead at the scene and Brown Jr. was taken to the hospital for treatment due to a hand injury.

Probably not much of a stretch since he used a folding knife to assume it didn’t have a locking blade and in the attack it folded back onto him.

Zarutska, 23, had moved to Charlotte from Ukraine and was murdered on Aug. 22, while riding the city’s LYNX Blue Line. Over the weekend, the Charlotte Area Transit System released a video of her killing.

Leave a war zone, just to get killed in another. There’s a lot of high-level attention on it now – President Trump calling for the death penalty, Pam Bondi says the FBI will be involved, even Transportation Secretary Sean Brown is talking of withholding federal funds if the city can’t keep riders safe.

Much of it is being seen as awkward for Democrats – a young girl being stabbed to death by a career criminal? Some are making much of Decarlos’ criminal history (seems his rap sheet is 14 arrests long, and he was sentenced to 6 years for armed robbery back in 2015. He served 5.) He was arrested a month before the killing but released by Judge Teresa Stokes, who is drawing intense on-line criticism for allowing his bail release. Quite a few folks claim he is mentally ill… doesn’t excuse a murder. Doesn’t remove society’s obligation to its citizens to protect them from such criminals, either.

As some have pointed out, though, his most recent offense was for misusing the 9-1-1 system and the violent robbery that sent him up was 10 years ago. Then there are those saying he should have been kept in due to his record regardless. Newsweek whined that it wouldn’t have been fair to him to proactively jail him –  Iryna Zarutska might wonder why they are worried about HIS rights, rather than HERS.

Thankfully, GoFundMe has taken down the fundraising appeals for Brown (they won’t fund defenses for people accused of violent crime.) I have to wonder what kind of person would want to fund someone who committed such a crime.

The images of the poor girl huddled up in shock during her final moments have stuck with me. Charlie Kirk had commented on her needless killing, not knowing that he’d soon be the subject of the next viral video of a person murdered senselessly.

The justice system is beyond flawed. I was given a year in jail (11 months suspended) after losing my appeal for a concealed weapons conviction–my first and only (adult) criminal charge. The guy who burglarized my house, just a few weeks before I was scheduled to deploy, had a long history of felony convictions and had just been convicted for firearms and drug charges a couple of years earlier, yet he was released after only a year or so. He got a couple of years in prison for the burglary. A guy I grew up with is a registered SO. I haven’t seen or talked to him since we were kids, but looking him up, he’s served a total of maybe four years on a 10-year sentence despite multiple failures to register. His charges weren’t statutory (him 18 with a 16-year-old)… he was in his 20s or 30s with someone under 14.

The courts seem to want to punish those of us who actually respect the law. A career criminal isn’t going to learn, so until they commit a crime so heinous as to preclude a light sentence, judges will just slap them on the wrist. Someone who’s sick in the head and engages in acts with a minor will do a year or two, then go back to the streets and get a few months here and there when they don’t comply with requirements.

In that photo, Iryna Zarutska looks very much like my eldest granddaughter.

Which triggers a very strong protective/aggressive impulse in me.

Blaster

In the video, she is sitting there, minding her own business. Like a coward, he attacks her from the back. Unprovoked!

For what?? If you hear the audio, from his mouth, because she was white!!

Kamala Harris is one that supported bail for violent offenders, she set up a website to process donations to provide bail for those that assaulted police officers. That is the kind of person who does that. Then she cried like a baby when Trump took her SS protection away so Newsome made sure she had a dozen police officers (who she worked so hard for years to get defunded) protecting her ass, that nobody even cares enough about to bother.

You can’t make this shit up if you tried.

Also [s]tabbed. She didn’t go to Ranger School.

Also the idea that a billionaire would use a typewriter in 2003 to write a birthday day note is an amusing one. By 2003 it had been at least ten years since I had even seen a typewriter.

Anyway good morning all. Hopefully they will catch slender man today.

Enjoy jail, kid.

It would be interesting to see how large the GFM fund was before it was taken down.

As much as Soros and Chinese backers could spare I’m sure.

Folded on his finger, or he slid forward onto the blade because not holding tight enough.

Most folks have no idea what is involved in a good stab, let alone how to hold a knife in a fight.

Graybeard

The on-line traffic I’m seeing has Iryna Zaratska and Charlie Kirk’s murders marking a turning point in the US.

I can only pray that is true – that the (D)emon-rats, the other mentally ill folks, and the sworn enemies of the Republic find themselves powerless and trapped in their own snares.

The Democratic Party was already on the ropes. Now in the wake of the shooting they are telling on themselves as violent extremists. Even the friendly media can’t hide it anymore.

AZRobert

The Democrat Party and all who enable them are a Clear and Present Danger to this Republic and a Sleeping Lion is waking up, may God have mercy!

MustangCPT

Sleeping lion, you say? Got something for you:

There’s videos of my man Milei singing this song. The lion in this song is Rastafari…the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

“Yo soy el Rey de un mundo perdído”
“I am the King of the fallen world”

VIVA LA LIBERTAD, CARAJO!

Old tanker

At least one liberal news media group is already setting the stage for an insanity plea by making constant note that he has schizophrenia. At least one commenter was saying he deserves pity for “suffering” the condition.

I have no doubt the public defender will be making the claim.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

SO? He’s “insane”. All the more reason to lock him up due to being a danger to himself and others. And since there are no longer any mental hospitals to place him, a prison will have to do as a substitute.
Unless the LibTards that are bleating about “poor insane Mr Brown” want to keep him in THEIR house. (THAT I’d pay good PPV money to watch live 24/7). If these LibTards don’t want him (NIMBYs), then they’re all hypocrites.

Based on everything I have heard and seen he knew exactly what he was doing and why. He had a plan, executed it and attempted to escape because he knew his actions were wrong and would get him locked up. Crazy or not, that is sane enough for a trial.

SFC D

There is no reason that the general public should suffer for his condition. His own mother agrees.

A Proud Infidel®️™️

IMO he should be cremated alive because he needs to get used to burning.

Army-Air Force Guy

Allegedly he said “I got the white woman” or something along those lines, after he stabbed her.
Sounds to me he knew what he was doing, and a hate crime to boot.

UpNorth

If he was insane, he wouldn’t have walked away from the crime scene. He knew what he did, he even said so.

SFC D

Someone needs to explain “cashless bail” to me. If there’s no cash, bond, or other security, it’s not bail. It’s released, own recognizance, with a promise to appear. Please, draw me the picture, use small words, the Big Bird version.

5JC

In our little Southern town during the whole Defund the Police/ BLM catastrophe a few years back, that led to thousands of deaths, the mayor was approached by a group complaining that people were being held to appear in court even if they had committed no crime. Innocent until proven guilty and all.

For misdemeanors they agreed to a signature bond (AKA Recognizance, Personal Bond etc) if they had appeared in court every time they were supposed to appear for the last three years, even if the initial charge was Failure to Appear for a traffic ticket. This was actually a good thing. People who had a traffic ticket they forgot about would get of jail for free, or some idiot skip-scanner at Walmart who got caught for the first time. They would then go to court and take care of whatever it was.

The real criminals kept committing crimes of course and not showing up to court. So after a couple of years they were all having to make bail, based upon their likelihood of showing up for court. So essentially nothing changed for us except they cut the first time offenders and “traffic ticket forgot about it people” a break. Can’t speak to anyone else. This likely wasn’t their goal but it reduced the burden on the jail staff.

SFC D

I can maybe understand it for relatively minor, non-violent offenses. Repeat offenders? Forget it. They’ve shown their true colors. I can understand it for relatively minor, non-violent offenses. Repeat offenders? Forget it. They’ve shown their true colors.

In 1981, my college roommate and I got arrested in Logan UT. He’d pocketed a couple of cassette tapes, security guard saw it, he also watched me watch him do it and laugh. We both got charged with petit theft. $100 bail. Bondsman cost us each $10.00. Hardly excessive bail, but their was actual bail. Upside to the story was that we both got 50 hrs community service (working at the local zoo) that turned into pretty damn good part time jobs. See? Rehabilitation works!

The bond for a Class A misdemeanor such as that here is $1000, with a bondsman you would pay $100 + $35 Bond fee. If convicted your fine in court would probably be about $600 and maybe a couple of days in jail, suspended for a year if you don’t reoffend.

But suppose you were a career criminal? You got caught for a similar crime. You would go to jail and sit it out because you can’t make bond. After a couple of weeks the judge would probably find you guilty and punish you with time served. You got to hang out with your friends in jail for a couple of weeks with three hots and a cot. All too easy.

The criminal justice system is pay as you go or stay as you go. All depends upon what level of service you can afford.

Hack Stone

“Cashless bail” is right up there with “justice transformation” and “comprehensive immigration reform”. Just a bunch babble from the Woke Left that makes it like they are actually doing something to benefit people.

Blaster

I like Trump. I wasn’t a fan of his going into his first election, but he won my trust and support after being POTUS for a few months and saw him in action.

With that said, sometimes I wish he would shut the hell up!

I’m not a lawyer, but him saying shit like that only helps the defense.

Skivvy Stacker

Thing is….he says exactly the kind of things that I would say if I had the same pulpit. The difference is that I’m a private citizen and the lame stream media wouldn’t be able to call me on it without me coming back at them and shoving it down their idiotic throats.

TopGoz

So much wrong with this incident, besides the unprovoked stabbing. Everyone else on the train just sat there looking away. They couldn’t be bothered with defending someone. Then, after the stabbing was over and the murderer walked away, all of the bystanders just went on their way and let Miss Zarutska bleed out. No one offered to assist, no one tried to stem the flow of blood. As far as I’m concerned, those animals are accessories to her murder.
Oh yeah, let’s not forget that the stabbing happened on August 22, but the media couldn’t be bothered to report on it until into September when the outcry became too much for the media to ignore.

Army-Air Force Guy

I’ve ridden the Portland MAX light rail train a couple of times, that was more than enough for me.

UpNorth

And if someone(the police or the transit authority) had not leaked the video to some folks, we’d still never who Zaryna was and what happened to her.
