Weekend Open Thread

| September 12, 2025

President Donald Trump took action to address crime in Washington D.C. Pulling together federal and local assets, the Trump Administration added the “FO” response to what had been years and even decades of “FA”. Many among the left paint this as a bad thing, even claiming that Trump is attempting to establish a dictatorship. When people’s animosity against a man overrules what should be an appreciation of what he’s doing right, one has to question the validity of their subsequent arguments. Enjoy your weekend!

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

As, so far, uncontested and undisputed WoT FIRST for the week ending Friday 12 September 2025, I wish to make a proclamation that we stand in reverent silence and prayer for our dear and recently departed ones.
The victims of 9-11-2001
KoB
Ilyana Zarutska
Charlie Kirk
And all others, near and far, recent and distant, who have fallen defending their rights and freedoms, of self and others.

(DAMN! It’s been a difficult week, I’m barely holding myself together. Pray for us all)

jeff LPH 3 63-66

Your right , a rough week for all of us and thank you for your opening comment Tox.

Amen, amen.

Hear, hear!

I officially nominate the song “Nothing’s Gonna Stop us Now” as the theme for all of us followers of Charlie Kirk and all the good things he stood for. Originally from Jefferson Starship and covered in an excellent fashion by the Hindley Street Country Club from a few months ago in their live version.
Kat has a set of lungs on her and sings with all the emotion she can pull out of her soul. Her voice reminds me of Annie and Nancy Wilson.
The entire band is excellent and proves it in this tribute song.
RIP Charlie Kirk, God we’re gonna miss you.
As his death brought tears to Victor Davis Hanson, you know it really is a Turning Point in history.
Godspeed to Charlie and God Bless his entire family…
We love you Charlie.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

And now, after the prayer, the celebration of life.
Top shelf imbibables for all
Buffet snacks enough to stuff yourselves.
Comfy chairs to fall asleep in.
Good company to talk to
Quiet corners to ponder and meditate in.
The key to the ‘washroom” for those who need.
Oh, and a podium for those of sufficient intelligence who wish to pontificate, educate and illuminate (OAM, you here?) (ditto for Commissioner Wretched)

Yeah, this week was a gorilla-sized mother fker.

Miss my Southern Brother. His commentary and observations were one of a kind, I felt they were often handcrafted just for me.

King Tox et al, have a great weekend and love a little harder in these trying times. Hate might “keep us warm” but it’s a fine dance, one that’ll eventually consume it all.

Stay blessed.

Been a long time since I’ve posted on the TAH WOT. This week can go bugger itself. Have a good weekend, all you dickweeds.

I haven’t been here much at all, so out of curiosity, when was the last time the Universe (is it still called that?) of Insults was posted?

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

We might have to consult with Admin on that
(that is, if they’re anywhere near to be found)

It got too big to post. So, when it’s called for, Chip posts a link. It’s so big, it has its own URL now.

NDHoosier

Well, then….I move that the link be deployed for the little shit that killed Charlie Kirk.

A Terminal Lance Coolie

I second the motion to deploy the Universe of Insults.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

So moved and seconded.
So let it be written, so shall it be done.

MustangCPT

SI! SI! SI!

And they got that motherfucker. Time for him to get a speedy tríal and be put down like the mad dog that he is. I can’t remember how they do it in Utah, but if it’s by “musketry”, I would imagine there would be no shortage of volunteers for that firing party. They wouldn’t even have to put blanks in any of the rifles. I don’t think anyone would have a twinge of conscience for that cocksucker. Tyler Robinson, come on down!

SFC D

There’s a story about Gary Gilmore’s firing squad execution in 1977. It was supposed to be 5 riflemen, 4 live rounds, 1 blank. Gilmore’s brother said he counted 5 bullet holes. Oops.

MustangCPT

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Well, Tyler and Gary can swap stories in hell. Fuck ‘em both.

David

All live and one blank is pretty much urban legend, and any idiot can feel the difference between a live round and a blank. Especially if the normal . 30 caliber (.30-06, .308) is used.

SFC D

I agree about the recoil, but apparently that’s what the state of Utah specifies.

rgr769

That is true, especially when shooting the larger caliber high powered cartridges. When I shot 45-70 black powder blanks you could barely feel any recoil.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neanderthal

I was talking to a nurse recently who told me not to be shy about asking her to repeat herself. She admitted she spoke like a tv commercial for this or that drug. I told her not to worry as my motto is, “If the cure is worse than the disease, I’ll keep the disease, thank you.” That confused her, so we settled on her repeating herself.

Amateur Historian

Hey, guys. This has been a really crazy and dark week for our country. I don’t know what’s gonna happen in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death or what form the Center and Right’s response will be to the evil we witnessed, both the assassination and the libs reaction to it. The one thing I do know is that others, both here on TAH and elsewhere feel as I do: so much sadness, anger, rage, and hatred has been welling up in my chest the past few days. And for most of that time, I didn’t know what to do with it all. Now I do.

Speaking for myself, I’m not going to riot. Nor burn buildings down. Nor loot a store. And I am certainly NOT going to go out there and find a demonrat terrorist to kill. Death is too good for them. And I am not them. I encourage everyone reading this to NOT meet them at their level. They are scum and we are not.

That said, passivity is not what I’m going to be doing either. The time of engaging the left in nice and polite debate is gone. It died with Charlie. For my part, I’ll likely be much less nice when I’m talking to a lib. Belligerency is now something I subscribe to. I think I may be even more politically active as well. What form that takes, I don’t know.

One things for certain, the evil of the democrat party must be vanquished, but it must be done the right way. To my friends on TAH, do what you think you must, but, please, do not lose yourselves. I think that would be a more greater tragedy than losing Charlie.

Charlie. Rest in Peace. May the Lord comfort you and your family.

You and I are similar age I think, so we don’t remember the assassination of MLK or RFK. I ask the crowd, is this what that felt like?

But I remember the MLK assassination fairly well.

Graybeard

Keep going.

Graybeard

I was around for JFK, MLK, and RFK.

Short answer: yes.

David

Ditto. 6th grade for JFK.

Graybeard

We must be might near the same age then, David.

Amateur Historian

My experiences with the JFK, RFK, and MLK assassinations are through learning about them through a history book with the author saying it deeply affected our people at the time. My only real life experiences are with the 9/11 attacks (though I was too young to comprehend it) and now the Charlie Kirk assassination. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that these things that happened in my time are at the same level as those that happened outside of my time. Things like this hit us all at varying degrees. I would say though that events like this hit virtually everyone in our society.

Last edited 4 months ago by Amateur Historian
Mason

Yeah, comparing it to 9/11 (especially given the date of occurrence) is apt. It’s obviously not the same in virtually any way, but I’ve got a similar sense of disbelief and incomprehension. Maybe I’m just still in the first stage of grief.

Thanks everyone for confirming my thought that this was similar to MLK and RFK. I hope that like those two deaths, that Kirk’s death will be a turning point (h/t to Charlie) for the country.

Now we just need a moon landing to reunite the country. Be a perfect time for Trump to get us not just a foot on the moon again, but a permanent presence there by decade’s end.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

AH,
A nice nose or throat punch would be appropriate.
And memorable.

Amateur Historian

What do you mean?

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

When having to deal with any intolerant left, without death or permanent injury.

Amateur Historian

Oh, okay. Yeah, that’s one of the arrows in my quiver. But it’ll not be the first I resort to, lest they throw hands. I’d likely try crudely insulting them and maybe doing what this guy did:

Amateur Historian

But the bottom line for me is that any friendliness I could have mustered for the left in public is well and truly spent.

Last edited 4 months ago by Amateur Historian
Amateur Historian

Also, I only fight my enemies. The moderate democrat voters who were still clinging on to the party are gone now. The left’s indefensible reaction to the assassination has lost them moderate support. Terrorists and terrorist supporters are all that remains of the democrat party.

Commissioner Wretched

Better late than never, I always say. (Well, I don’t always say it, because then I’d be boring.) Congrats to King Toxie and thanks for the compliment about a podium! Here, to his honor and your enlightenment, is some silly trivia I picked just for you.

DID YOU KNOW…?
Who was the first choice for the leading role in the 1957 movie “The Music Man”?
By Commissioner Wretched
didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com
Copyright © 2025

Well, it’s time once again for me to share some trivia with you! I doubt that anyone actually sits around waiting for the newspaper each week, just to see what that silly man wrote. But if you do, indeed, do that … get help. Soon.

Just kidding. If you do that, you’re my kind of person! See, I do sit around all week waiting for the day I write the column.

In the meantime, it’s all drudge and dreck, designed to make a person depressed. It doesn’t work with me, though, and I hope it doesn’t work with you either. Be happy!

After all, it’s trivia day!

Did you know …

… the word “Caribbean” is derived from the same root word as “cannibal”? The “Carib” part refers to a native people living on islands in the Caribbean Sea, who were believed by Europeans to practice cannibalism. Now, whether they actually did so or not is conjecture, but it’s an interesting thing to know nonetheless. (Gonna have to change my vacation plans, it seems.)

… at one time, slander was a capital crime? According to Mental Floss, during the time of ancient Rome, the Law of the Twelve Tables decreed that anyone who composed or sang a song which slandered another person could be executed for doing so. (Boy, talk about strict!)

Commissioner Wretched

… the actor best known for his role in the 1957 hit movie The Music Man wasn’t the first choice for the part? It’s hard to imagine the film now without Robert Preston (1918-1987) as Professor Harold Hill, considering he had played the role to great success on the Broadway stage. But officials at Warner Brothers did not want him for the part in the movie, because he was not considered a major box-office star. Studio heads initially wanted Bing Crosby (1903-1977), and after he turned the part down it was offered to Frank Sinatra (1915-1998) and even Cary Grant (1904-1986). Both men refused it, insisting that Preston was the only man who could do the part real justice. Grant, in fact, said he wouldn’t even see the movie unless Preston was in the title role. The author of the work, Meredith Willson (1902-1984), also insisted that Preston and only Preston play the Hill role. Additional trivia note: Amazingly, prior to taking on the Broadway role, Preston had never sung a note professionally. To get the film’s “bankable star,” the producers went with Shirley Jones (born 1934) as the librarian Marian Paroo. (Trouble in River City indeed!)

… Scotch Tape™ initially wasn’t very sticky? When it was first introduced by the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M) in 1930, the tape only had its sticky substance along the outer edges, with the center area unstickable. (Stickless? Stick free?) While it was being initially marketed, one customer became frustrated with the lack of adhesive on the tape and snarled to the salesman, “Take this tape back to those Scotch bosses of yours and tell them to put more adhesive on it!” That comment led to the tape being marketed as Scotch Tape. Additional trivia note: Scotch Tape was invented by Richard Drew (1899-1980).

Roh-Dog

I drew a dick once….

OK, a lot more than once.

NDHoosier

But did you do so using a Navy jet?

Hate_me

I’m waiting til I get the keys to the Goodyear blimp.

SFC D

That’s gonna be a yuge sky penis!

Commissioner Wretched

… why police officers are sometimes called cops? The answer depends on who you ask. One theory is that “cop” comes from “constable on patrol,” but the word constable isn’t often used in the U.S. Another comes from the copper buttons and badges that early police officers wore … but not likely to be accurate, since there’s little evidence copper was actually used. No, the prevailing theory is that the truth behind “cop” comes from a little-known definition of the word as a verb, meaning to “take or seize.” That definition came into use in the mid-19th Century, and being “copped” meant being arrested. So the one who does the arresting, or copping, is a “copper.” Thus, verbal shorthand makes it “cop,” the term used today. (As good an explanation as any, I suppose.)

… the largest treasure hunt game ever held took place in 2017? In the town of Rethymno, Greece, 1,384 people got together on February 12, 2017, to participate in a treasure hunt. Rethymno holds an annual game of treasure hunt and that year was the largest. The hunt’s winner gets a special prize – they’re allowed to organize the following year’s game. (Yeah, but how do you top the biggest one?)

… the number 23 figures in almost all of a Japanese auto manufacturer’s advertising? Nissan Motors often uses 23 on race cars and in advertisements, and there’s a reason. In Japanese, the number two is pronounced “ni,” and the number three is pronounced “san.” Thus, if you say 2 and 3 in Japanese, you say “nisan,” the name of the motor company. (Clever, very clever!)

NDHoosier

Yup. That meaning of cop is used in the phrase cop a feel, which Joe Biden did to a lot of children.

Hack Stone

Hack Stone was heading south on I-95 about a half hour ago heading on down to Potomac Mills so that his lovely bride Rosetta Stone can purchase yet another dress, this time for a wedding in Japan next month, and Hack spotted a Datsun pickup truck. As old as it is, it still ran better than a 1980’s vintage Jaguar.

SFC D

My first car was a ‘71 Datsun pickup. Put it on its roof in ‘81. Flipped it back on its wheels and drove the last 10 miles to my dorm. Windshield? We don’t need no stinking windshield!

David

In Chinese the number 4 is the same as ‘die’, differing only in inflection. So 4 has lots of bad lucky, per a friend who always titles her personal files 44444. She says no Chinese person would dare open them.

Commissioner Wretched

… a physical reason exists for most cases of back injury? Researchers tell us that the human spine was not designed to properly work in the vertical position of walking on two legs. Modern humans pay for that with sore backs, slipped discs, arthritis, pinched nerves, and so much more. (So how were we designed to properly work, huh?)

… people today don’t hold a candle to those in the past? Let me tell you what I mean. In 1943, the U.S. government advertised that it needed a specific type of human hair – blonde, at least 22 inches long, and not treated with chemicals or heat. A resident of Pueblo, Colorado, Mary Babnick Brown (1907-1991), offered to donate her hair. Brown’s locks were 34 inches long and had never been cut, treated with heating irons, or chemically touched. The government accepted Brown’s hair in 1944, and it was used in the production of meteorological instruments. Brown was offered compensation by the government for her hair, but she turned it down, saying it was her patriotic duty to help. (Patriotism, pure and simple.)

Now … you know!

Roh-Dog

Bet Miss Brown looked just as fine with a short crop.

Now I’m gonna go dive around for images, since the man who’n would fucking up n’ quit.

Not gonna do it! I do make chili with beans, just not the red chile. First time I made it, I used cubed potatoes roast, beef broth, hatch chili powder, lots of cumin, let that pot simmer all day. First time my (step)son tasted it, he teared up ‘cause it was just like his Nana’s. That recipe is written in stone! If you ever saw my son, you’d never believe he’s 1/4 Mexican. Follow up with the cardiologist’s (quite fetching) Nurse Practitioner went very well. However when she offered to check the catheter insertion site I decided to decline, as I knew it was ok. And did I mention that she is quite fetching? The EKG is good, pulse good, and I’m on “no restrictions except activities like bungee jumping.” Since I’m too experienced in the failings of things to ever want to bungee jump, I’m golden.

Went to my PCP for a knot in my back – muscle spasms. He doesn’t want me lifting heavy weights – say 50 lbs. But I regularly try to do some curls with barbells up to 50 lbs. I looked for one of those machines to work biceps and support your back to no avail.

instapundit(dot)com has some good things about the reaction to Charlie Kirk’s martyrdom. Some country stars doing tributes, etc.

Tonight, I raise a toast to those who’ve gone before us here at TAH: Jonn, ExPH2 “The Lioness of TAH”, Wilted Willie, and so many others up to and including KoB.

I raise a toast to Iryna Zarutska, and all the young women victimized by DEI insanity.

And I raise a toast to Charlie Kirk, a martyr indeed.

Prosit!

Kilmeade channeling Charlie Kirk level empathy. Charlie would be so proud.

“StOp CaLlInG uS nAzIs!!!”

“Empathy”. Today’s liberal buzzword. We talked about this, Lars. Tell me about the “empathy” you feel for Charlie Kirk’s children and widow. If you could only truly feel their pain. You’d never use that word again. Are you afraid Kilmeade might come for you in your sleep? Won’t your antifa buddies protect you? There’s another cute buzzword. Putting anti in front of fascist does not change what you and your fellow travelers truly are. Closed-minded fascists, yearning for absolute control. For the good of the people, of course. We see you.

Mediamatters?
Those fuckers couldn’t tell the truth if you held a gun to their heads, Lars.

Hack Stone

Willing to bet that you support terminating pregnancies for babies with detected birth defects. Why not, you support terminating healthy fetuses.

Graybeard

In sum:
a Child-murder supporter
a doesn’t-agree-with-me murder supporter

Demonic.

Lars,
we have absolutely zero tolerance for your evil and perverted views.

The whole world is seeing just how demented you and yours are.

I pray, honestly, for you to see the truth and change, but in the interim you are on the side of people attempting to kill me and mine. You are a traitor and an enemy.

Commissar

Brainwashed clown.

Also, who is the “we”?

Are you speaking for the collective now?

Hive mind bullshit.

Fuck…I don’t know what I’m feeling but it just dawned on me that I should have brought this up in the memorial thread for that Rascally Redleg:
