Wife beating taught

Saw an interesting blurb from The Telegraph:  In the United Arab Emirates, the government mandates many Islamic teachings in their schools – including how to beat your wife, even if you are in an English school.

Harrow is a prestigious school (one of their grads was a chap named Winston Churchill) opening two campuses in the UAE.

Soon it will need to grapple with some new customs. Sir Winston Churchill’s alma mater is opening two schools in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this summer, where Muslim pupils recite the Koran and learn about beating their wives.

Textbooks reveal that, despite the quintessential Britishness they peddle, many of these schools have been teaching pupils how to deal with “rebellious” wives.

Headings in one include: “First: good counselling”, “Second: refusing bed-sharing” and “Third stage: beating lightly”. The book tells pupils that the last step refers to “beating for the purpose of remediation”.

It says: “Its objective is to safeguard marital life against breakdown and maintain companionship and social intimacy. A husband is not allowed to hit his wife using a whip or stick or in her face. He is to use a siwak (small teeth cleaning twig) or a light handkerchief.”

Mandatory morality lessons in the UAE mean pupils at British private schools in the region are being fed propaganda about the greatness of the ruling Emirati, including how the country “empowers women” and “ranks first in terms of peaceful co-existence”.

Yes, really.  Now, thinking all the kids get this – no, the ex-pat students are segregated from the Muslim kids for these lessons. But it is part of the curricula. And you KNOW kids share.

The chapter includes an exercise asking children to “explain why Islam made divorce the right of the husband alone”, and includes as an example: “Because he is more patient and tolerant.”Malaysia News

Tolerant… as in honor killings?

The main motivator is money, as usual  – Brit schools used to have about 36 overseas campuses which could send money back to the parent schools – the article says there are now 163, sending back roughly 79 million pounds annually.

Reminds me of “The Quiet Man” when John Wayne is handed a “switch to beat the lovely lady with.”  In real life, I suspect that a lot of American girls would react more like Dolly Parton did in “9 to 5” and threaten to “take my gun and turn you from a rooster into a hen.”

Hell, if it were one of my daughters and for some reason I was unable, I’d give her the loaded gun.
