VJ Day with a twist

Gonna talk today about Ray and Ellie Williams.
Coupla kids who were both in the Navy, met, fell in love, and four month later decided to tie the noose knot and enter in the state of holy deadlock wedlock. So they set the date, August 15th.
The very day they made their nuptials, Japan announced its surrender, effectively concluding years of global conflict and putting World War II to an end. Japan’s surrender sparked celebrations across the United States and among Allied nations ahead of the official signing of the surrender document on Sept. 2, 1945.
“V-J Day was a tremendous happening, and of course, we had the personal joy of being newlyweds,” Ray Williams reflected. “It was a double joy for us.”
80 years married. Heck, most people don’t even LIVE that long – and they held a marriage together.
The couple told Serrie their advice for a lasting, loving marriage: Don’t hold grudges, and be prepared to compromise. They also said they have relied heavily on their Christian faith.
Yeah, you knew that part was coming, right? It’s never “I was stuck and after a while I just got used to it” – it’s always something inspirational, right?
Their courtship was short at just four months, but it was enough.
“I just liked the way we kind of enjoyed being together,” Ellie Williams told Fox News.
After their whirlwind romance, Ray Williams proposed, and the pair set a wedding date for Aug. 15, 1945. By chance, their chosen date coincided with one of the most significant days in world history.
Today, the couple live together at WellStar Atherton Place, a senior living community in Marietta, Ga., which held a ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the couple’s “double joy,” remembering the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and honoring the beginning of Ray and Ellie Williams’ enduring marriage. Don’t get me wrong, I make jokes, but I have to admire their endurance and dedication. It’s funny – that seems to run in clusters. Wonder if their friends are mostly folks who have been married a long time too? Certainly are for us, our oldest friends in the world pretty much all date back almost 50 years – and most all of them are on their first spouse, too.
80 years – certainly deserves a big Bravo Zulu!

Wonderful story in the news for once. BZ!!! Did far better than I.
Me too, only made it 25 years. I think her eventual lack of belief helped lead to the end.
Congratulations Ray and Ellie Williams!
Mrs. GB and I are above the half-century mark, and I must concur that our faith in Christ is the main factor in our bliss.
The fact that I cook breakfast for her every morning doesn’t hurt.
A favorite cartoon has the husband sudsing up dishes as he tells his son “statistically very few husbands are shot while washing the dishes”
True! I’d wait til he was finished.
You’re a good man,Charlie Brown! “Nothing says lovin’ like something in the oven… and Pillsbury says it best!” ♥️
Definitely a story of a life well lived. Congrats to the young couple.
Wow! I have been married twice and don’t even have anywhere near that many years in aggregate.
I’m on my second marriage. 1st only 7 months (was a SGT on recruiting duty in Chicago) and 2nd is 39 years (was a SSG retention NCO in Germany when the Filipina wife of a reenlistee asked if I was single and referred her friend to write me:-)
