Think socialism is great? These Cubans know otherwise
A common question asked on the site and elsewhere: if socialism/communism is so great, why don’t those who advocate for it migrate to communist countries? Marxist movers and shakers promise a better outcome under communism but rarely deliver. One of communism’s consequences involves most of those who fought to “take down the system” ending up in a worse situation. Cuba is just one of those examples.
From Fox News:
“In Cuba, the medium salary is around $40 a month, so you have to choose [very carefully] what you’re going to buy,” she said.
“[Those who] get paid in Cuban pesos don’t have access [to those stores and instead] have to go to a bodega, which is very limited with what you can get.”
She said that on WhatsApp and other messaging groups, Cubans share with each other the foods that are available — from milk to butter — at any given time.
“It’s not like in the United States, where you never have to think about if there’s going to be butter in the grocery stores or not,” she said.
Marissa Diaz said the only time she’s experienced something similar in the United States was during the COVID pandemic.
“That’s what it’s like being in Cuba, but all the time,” she said.
Yoel Diaz described the ability to go to a grocery store as a privilege.
The same goes for living here and being able to put food on the table, he said.
“[You] can have whatever brand of food you want, whatever meal. You can go [down] the street [and buy] whatever coffee you want,” he said.
“We don’t have that [in Cuba],” he added. “My mom is dying for [a] coffee. She knows [what a privilege it is].”
The couple couldn’t help sharing thoughts about New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, a self-declared Democratic socialist who’s proposed a pilot program of government-owned grocery stores in a bid to lower costs and reduce food insecurity in underserved areas.
“We have seen time and time again that government is inefficient in distributing things,” Marissa Diaz said. She said it failed in Cuba and is “not sure why he thinks New York City is going to be different.”

I dunno what’s worse… the politicians who still push a failed ideology on the masses, or the masses who still believe it’s possible to achieve the end goal.

The politicians pushing this failed ideology know that it won’t work. Why do they push it still? Because they intend to consolidate power and wealth in their hands at the expense of both the wealth and sovereignty of the people.
The masses who still believe it’s possible to reach the end goal become unwitting “foot soldiers” thinking that they’re going to receive what had been promised. However, when the elites they supported achieve their end goal, what they deliver would be short lived. They’ll quickly run out of other people’s money.
These elites would then squeeze what is left and leave their supporting masses in the wind. It is around this time when these masses would find out that they’ve been hoodwinked. At this point, they become the actual danger that MAGA is being accused of being. These folks would be among the first to be cancelled. They would not be able to cry faul, as by then people being cancelled would be the norm.
Hence, why these folks are called “useful idiots.”
My Poli Sci professor was a true supporter of socialism. When he left his wife and six kids to play house with a 22 year old student, at the young age of 48 he became even more crazy. If he detected even a small hint of dissenting opinion in class he would drop the student a letter grade, which is how I ended up with a B. When I asked him about it he refused to even talk to me at all. But that is how it was

I hate when people say that! Somebody has got to pay for it! I study Russian with some teachers in Russia and they got very confused when I told them that there is no free lunch. They will pay for it one way or the other.
And I love how in many, if not all, of these countries with socialized medicine there are two systems. The “free” system and the private system you pay extra for. Go to the “free” system for an X-ray and wait 3 months for the appointment. Go to the private one, pay your bucks and get it done that day. Shocking!

Hey, it’s DEMOCRATIC socialism that truly works, not mere “socialism.”
Like how they try to pretty it up by calling it democratic, despite the fact that a democracy is a corrupted form of a polity and is a terrible form of government.
Our Republic uses features of Representative Democracy and pure democracy. When a state has a ballot issue that is as close to democracy as we get.
But the old saw about a democracy being two wolves and a rabbit voting on what is for dinner versus a Republic being a very well armed rabbit contesting the vote holds true.
Socialism is actually worse than democracy because it removes the right to vote or pretty much anything else. You are at the mercy of a state that you have no checks and balances on, which is worse than being at the mercy of your neighbors.
Exactly. The dims always say our government is democracy, but they are inept philanderers. If Aristotle were alive today, he would describe our constitutional republic as a polity, which is a combination of the good things of an Oligarchy and a Democracy.

The channel on the tube of you is Yoel and Mari. They post videos on Yoel’s “firsts”, like seeing a Walmart, a car dealership, the 4th of July, Halloween, etc. You’ve never seen someone so happy and grateful for this country.
Seeing his reaction to the dairy section full of milk, or the meat cooler with every cut on display, you get a whole ‘nother perspective. Looking at whole, 2%, skim, etc., he says he never knew there were so many kinds of milk. In another, looking at the eggs, he breaks down. He has an ex-wife and daughter in Cuba, and talks about not being able to give his daughter a birthday cake because there were no eggs for sale. No eggs for sale.
But yeah, government run grocery stores are great. I kinda hope NYC is stupid enough to elect that Marxist Islamist, and they find out firsthand. Because listening to the millions who have escaped Communist countries isn’t enough of a lesson.

Nope. Your numbers are way off. Congresses under Trump added $7.8T to the debt. Most of it ($4.2T) was added in 2020 due to COVID fallout.
Congresses under Biden added $8.4T, so far. Note that until 2025 is complete for the budget year we won’t know how much Biden spent. Anyone who says the debt has increased due to Trump in his second is lying. He hasn’t had any input on the budget, just like Biden didn’t for the 2021 budget (which was the lowest increase of his term).
Ironically Trump won’t get any credit for saving money this year for the chain saw he took to USAID and other money wasters, he should but he won’t.
