Machete to a gunfight with predictable results:
Mrgunsngear on X: “LAPD responds to a call saying that there’s a guy in the street waiving a machete at people and chanting (where is that behavior normal? ?). As police arrive he gets in the black Dodge and attempts to flee. Eventually he gets out of the car and charges police with the https://t.co/zssneU6wh7” / X

12:55 am, close enough to that mythical midnight hour where nothing good happens out on the street.
The deceased should’a stood home.
Got a Compatriot (Retired Wing Wiper) in the Belleville Illy Noise AO. Last trip thru in ’15 it was going downhill…real fast. Gale is one of those doods that was killed in the Viet of The Nam by The Orange Agent. He just hasn’t quite died of it yet. The closest he got in country was Guam. Go figure.
Machete to a gunfight with the predictable results. Machete is nothing more than a long knife…or a short sword.
One could bring a little bit of violence up close and personal, with that little Daniel Defense.
Another Belleville IL news story for ya. Just came across the local news, a shooting at McDonald’s that ended with employee in hand cuffs.
Do the bells ring in Belleville at midnight?
Apparently shots ring out at all hours. It’s not the same town I remember from 40 something years ago.
To continue the linked story,
“The test was successful, and he died, saving taxpayers millions.”
Another instance of the benefit of the TSS.
One of the comments was, “more oxygen for the rest of us.”
Good point there I’d say.
Not having an “X” account, I couldn’t get that far. TY.
To Mister Orwell’s point,
Those who reject violence on moral grounds, regardless or their ability to wage it, are a far more fair creature than those who advocate for it yet will never, or could ever, see its grizzled face. This ass trumpeting cohort of human-like husks, whose life’s greatest act of bravery was being ripped from their mother’s womb, should be ignored at all costs.
If they insist in continuous whinging about blood being the only answer, accommodate them: trebuchet, one way once.
That little Daniel Defense DDM4 PDW Pistol actually makes me think I could use a truck gun (with appropriate storage arrangements). In a (D)emon-rat inspired Fertilizer+Ventilator scenario, it would be better than my EDC pistola.
Apropos to Mr. Orwell, I prefer peace, but am quite ready to do violence to protect the innocent. I have a sis-in-law who vehemently despises guns, but has learned to live with the fact that I have ’em.
Had a good friend whose wife HATED guns. When the house across their street was burglarized, he called me for advice and I could hear her in the background saying “tell Dave we need a gun NOW!”. Funny thing…
Yes, David. When reality sets in…
My private thoughts – kept to myself for the sake of family peace – is “I hope you never find yourself in a situation where you need a gun.”
As they are a number of years older than I, and live away from most of the garbage places, they have a good chance of making it without that.
Regardless, I am due to teach youngest grandson how to shoot a pistol soon. The elder ones know already – but I need to get them more range time.
Here’s an idea for ya gray beard.

Not a bad idea, but I’m envisioning having to get out of the truck to get to the rifle in a hurry…
LEO 1 friend of mine was one of the responders to an event some 10+ years ago when 3 convicts were trying to escape one of the local prisons. Co-incidentally, in the process they carjacked one of our fellow church members as she was at a drive-through bank. (She is also the wife of LEO 2 & friend of mine.)
LEO 1 first was shooting at the R front tire of her pickup while she’d had to move to the passenger side. The convict driver took off (with her & his two buddies) trying to get on the highway – fortunately taking the path that missed the on-ramp.
LEO 1 did get the tire, so they pulled over in front of a wooded area and ran into the woods. LEO 1 and his partners got our friend out and behind the front wheel of their patrol car, while engaged in a gun battle with the convicts – who had taken the rifle and shotgun off the guards, one of whom they killed.
LEO 1 later said he thought, as engaging a convict with a rifle using only his pistol, “This is no fair” and proceeded to run to the trunk of his patrol car to get his rifle. His body camera recorded that it took 7 seconds for him to get to the trunk, open it, grab & load the rifle, and return to his firing position. At which point the convict had retreated into the woods.
7 seconds.
They later captured all the convicts, but 7 seconds was an eternity in the middle of the two-way gun range.
That looms large in my mind when thinking of a truck gun. And storage.
There are other solutions. Overhead racks are nice if you have the room because it is within reach but at the same time hidden from casual view. Time to get into action is about two seconds.

Realistically your best bet when encountering tom foolery on the road is to use the vehicle to get away as fast away as possible. If that isn’t an option or you just really want to be there, than finding cover (with your vehicle) as fast as possible should be your next priority. From cover it is much easier to retrieve a long gun, no matter where it is
I’ve looked into the overhead rack idea as well.
I concur that the best plan of action is avoidance if at all possible. But I can see situations where it would be useful to have a long-gun/shotty when avoidance is not quickly possible.
I’d like an overhead that also conceals if possible. IMHO a p/u truck’s ceiling is too easily seen from outside the vehicle.
All this is academic until I can actually afford some new tools. <grin>
Nowadays the trunk gun (for civilians) of choice is a braced AR pistol in either 5.56 or 300BO and a 9″- 11″ barrel. If you go with the blackout you can bring two magazines and run either suppressed 220 grain subsonics, which might not penetrate level IIIa armor or 124gr, which is a near clone to 7.62×39. This gives you options.
Practically all police run ARs in 5.56 if they have a rifle. Shotguns are still out there but fading fast. A few have picked up folding PCCs. The advantage there is it appears less aggressive when carrying it folded so some schools have adopted them. They are much easier to conceal in the passenger compartment of a vehicle. While you will get better accuracy and range than a pistol at the end of the day it is still a pistol round.
Personally I keep on board an AR pistol and a bolt action rifle in 308. The rifle can cleanly dispatch any animal of any kind that might be in agony after being struck by a vehicle. Plus if I ever did need a long range rifle, there isn’t really a substitute for one.
10mm is an option for PDW use. Plenty of range and thump for realistic civilian scenarios.
Plates and carriers are so common these days, if one assumes “armored”, might as well assume max value hardplates. Change your aim to the parts that by necessity lack plate armor.
Else 7.62×51 AP becomes the “reasonable minimum”. Or bigger.
Even with rifle ammo, one might need to aim for a weapon, foot, hand, or eye-slit if the perp built his own bubba-ironman outfit.
Weapons are seldom bulletproof. The armored perp with the broken remains of a machine gun can be engaged successfully, and terminally, with a Prius.
Grin.
Graybeard pinged on this week’s theme- truck guns. Congrats! Pick any prize from the second shelf.
*grin*
Than’ you.
Than’ you very much.
A little pricy, but damned ingenious.
Police find ingenious secret compartment mod in Toyota SUV
With a bit of ingenuity and craftsmanship, SUVs have a lot of places for storage. Some pre-built.
The older (at least) Dodge Caravans had a ton of storage compartments built into the floor of the passenger areas.
Where there’s a will (and sufficient cash) there’s a way.
