CBP Offficial busted for fraud
Serina Baker-Hill, 55, of Detroit is/was the Customs and Border Patrol director of the agency’s Center for Excellence and Expertise over Automotive and Aerospace Engineering. (Okay, my first question – I can see a group with that title being in Detroit, but under Customs and Border Patrol? Calling Mr. Musk…)
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection official in Detroit was charged Wednesday with orchestrating a scheme to fraudulently obtain more than $6,300 in disaster aid and lying to federal agents, a case unsealed as prosecutors charged her husband in connection with an alleged drug conspiracy.
Serina Baker-Hill, 55, of Detroit, director of the agency’s Center for Excellence and Expertise over Automotive and Aerospace Engineering, was arrested and released on $10,000 unsecured bond following an initial appearance Wednesday in federal court in Detroit. She is charged with three crimes: wire fraud, lying and fraud in connection with a major disaster, charges that could send her to federal prison for 20 years or longer. Her lawyer, Amanda Bashi, could not be reached for comment immediately Wednesday.
Missed this when it actually hit, the article was dated March 12.
The corruption case against Baker-Hill grew out of a drug conspiracy investigation targeting her husband, 56-year-old Maurice Hill. During the drug probe, the FBI obtained a wiretap and learned Baker-Hill and her husband were engaged in an alleged fraud involving disaster aid, FBI Special Agent Andrew Matas wrote in an affidavit filed in federal court.
The criminal case against Baker-Hill dates to August 2023 after a series of floods in Metro Detroit prompted residents to apply for federal disaster aid. Baker-Hill applied for assistance and a Federal Emergency Management Agency inspector determined there was flood damage in the basement of her home, prosecutors said.
Baker-Hill received $6,315 to fix the damage and for two months of rental assistance because she claimed the home was unlivable, the government alleged.
Apparently while she claimed the house was unlivable, she and her husband continued living there normally, using the same amount of utilities… oops.
As the criminal case against Baker-Hill was unsealed Wednesday, a drug conspiracy case was unsealed in federal court against her husband and six others.
The 43-count indictment involves an alleged conspiracy to distribute and possess cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl. Detroit News
She and her husband were recorded on wiretaps joking whether he wanted new Gucci shoes with the money. Somehow I think he may be in more danger of hard time than she is despite that 20 year potential.

New York DA James only forged documents. Baker-Hill only forged documents. I don’t think you’re supposed to lie on government forms. Cause you can go to jail, which would be appropriate.
Everyone does it. Even Fanni Willis lied on a federal form to get dollaz. Let he who has never committed Fraud against the Federal Government cast the first stone.
Where is the pile of stones, and where do I line up?!!!
Present, sir!
Claiming a deduction on taxes, that gets reversed. Is different than fraud on applications to get funds. So I don’t think casting the first stone applies in this situation. Intentionally making false claims and then acting to deceive is a different game. Anyone acting like that needs some jail time. We trust our government to act honestly, it is difficult to achieve that concept when the people employed by the government are corrupt in their own lives. Especially those who are entrusted to uphold the law and follow the constitution. CBP, DA’s, etc.
What about claiming you live in another state and are married to your father on a federal loan application? Or claiming you are married to your brother on a visa application? Zero repercussions.
Time to enforce the law. I want to see people go to jail for shit like this.
Nope, doesn’t count, it’s ok when the Demonrats do it.
There should be repercussions. It is mortgage fraud. Real fraud, not some bs over property valuations for a loan where the institutional lender does its own due diligence evaluation of the properties. Most banks have their own RE appraisers do a professional appraisal on any commercial property mortgage. That is what they rely upon in making the loan; they do not rely upon the owner’s opinion of value. This why her prosecution of Trump is just bogus lawfare.
Even in English Common Law this conduct is a crime. It is called “larceny by deceit.” Steal thousands and it is always a felony.
Deceit to obtain a lower interest rate will amount to thousands of dollars in theft. This is a felony.
When I said casting the first stone is not applicable in this instance. I mean it’s a poor analogy to represent the situation. A better analogy would be. Tie a 500 lb rock around her ass and see if she sinks or swims. If she sinks she’s guilty.
Been told to embellish my resume on USAJobs by current dotgov employees, to include one who works as a pre-screening personnel manager.
Hence me not getting hired by government; fed, state, nor local.
Heck, I didn’t even get a call back to empty trashcans at ~$19/hr for 20 hours a week! Last I checked, as a prior-service Infantryman with 3 stripes that equates to a Doctorate in Janitorial Arts.
But this asshole will probably keep her pension and has contributed less than nothing to society.
Moral of the story: lying only hurts when one gets caught (I wanna know if this idiot met the prereqs to get hired in the first place, frfr)
DEI hire
She likely played her ace in the hole, the race card, to get her lofty position.
Phil Monkress.
I wonder if the thought ever crossed her mind of … “I’ll take $6300 for my potential job loss and jail time, Alex”.
The grift/theft/abuse seems to be more rampant than what’s being reported on. No wonder some (OK, a lot) want DOGE shut down.
1. Why is the government providing free flood insurance after the fact?
2. How much damage was there for $6,000 in damage and temp living? Most flood insurers have deductibles higher than that.
3. She saw it was free easy money and reparations.
Later.
Those hyphenated last names are always a clear sign of leftist corruption.
Tell Marinette Miller-Meeks that and see how far you get.
Californians are weird, regardless of the political party.
Why did she not take her husband’s name after she married Curt Meeks in 1983, like everybody else in America?
So, why do I think this is important?
Because there are cultural and psychological underpinnings in naming traditions after marriage.
The more stable societies are those in which the woman leaves her home and joins her husband’s family.
I’d say being married since 1983 is about as stable as it gets. Be that as it is she was only born in California and hasn’t lived there in the last 50 years. And clearly everyone else in America doesn’t take their husband’s last name or we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Been married since 87, so hyphenating had no effect on our marriage.
My wife hyphenated her last name. She has regretted doing it for many reasons. She did it because it was a popular thing at the time. We did not hyphenate the children’s names.
That is when it started becoming a thing in the US in the 80s.
MRS D hyphenated her name until my her son, my stepson, finished school. Made things a little easier administratively. She dropped the hyphen after he graduated.
Leftists you know how they are:

Lucky her husband didn’t go on the lam, then he would have been considered over the hill
Over the hill and thru the jail to grandma’s house we go….
She is definitely not the Hill that you want to die on.
Customs and Border Protection.
They took all the uniformed people from US Customs, and the Immigration and Naturalization Service and placed them into CBP. This was all the Inspectors at ports of entry, Border Patrol Agents working in between ports of entry, and the Air and Marine people who do air and marine patrols.
This also includes those people from Customs who were experts in the trade area. Entry Specialists and Import Specialists were also put into CBP. She was probably head of the trade area for automotive stuff. Lots of corruption possibility.
Long ago I was a Special Agent with US Customs and worked with them.
Yup. CBP Office of Field Operations (referred to as OFO, sometimes for obvious reasons). handles ports of entry. Blue uniforms. Border Patrol agents handle everything between ports up to 100 mi inland, Green uniforms The intent in combining them all under DHS was to prevent “stovepiping” of information. The actual result was more and bigger stovepipes.
An appropriate song for the occasion.
She signed off on my termination letter and it had false statements in it. SHE SIGNED OFF ON FALSE STATEMENTS ON A GOVERNMENT DOCUMENT!! Karma is real and she too will know how it feels to be without.
