About that thug-life learning curve, it can get pretty steep. Thanks again, Gun Bunny.

As to the Harris County shooting, maybe the partner of the yute shot considered the theory of outrunning a bear, you don’t have to be faster than the bear, , just be faster than the guy who is running with you.
Ahh, the old “shoot my homeboy in the back so I can outrun the po po” trick. Works every time! (Too bad Solomon Y from the other article didn’t also have an accomplice.)
Pop had a bolt-action .375H&H Magnum.
“Foe Hammer”
(Grin)
Wonder if J. R. R. Tolkien ever shot one of those. It would definitely serve as “Foe Hammer” against some the gangster goblins around. Wonder what it would do to their ride?
.375 H&H is great for moose
But I prefer 9.3x74R for doubles.
Bullets are easy to find and the brass lasts forever, being fairly low pressure and only slightly bottlenecked.
“speak softly and carry a big stick”
I don’t think that “Big Stick” of TR’s spoke very softly, ‘beans. I believe that it spoke in a more Earth Shattering…KA-BOOM! And I’ll betcha betcha that today’s perps were not speaking softly when they discovered that their intended vics had done what was needed to “PREPARE” to fight back.
Full disclosure…I WOULD whisper, softly, sweet nothings into that Lovely Lass’s Ms Thangs ear. No Earth Shattering KA-BOOM but you better make the Earth move or she’ll shoot yore azz.
Q: How much did that gun set you back?
A: About three feet.
I thought a twice-barrel was a bit much on the thing, unless the second shot was intended to reset the shooter’s dislocated shoulder.
Facing a charge by the herd/pack/pride, fire one, load one. Save the second round for any leakers.
Doubles were often preferred over bolt-actions because of reliability, and lack of misfeeds.
The pros that chose bolt-actions almost always wanted a Mauser action. Same reasons.
Hard to get paid if your hunter gets eaten/trampled/mauled.
Not to forget that a double has the fastest second shot.
