Haiti Police “It’s every man for himself!”
The police of Hatai are now telling the population that they are better off at it themselves then rely on the police. Not only that but actively encouraging them to shot and kill criminals.
“If you don’t kill the criminals, they will all come back,” a Haitian police officer shouts over a loudspeaker in the country’s most notorious slum, imploring citizens to take justice into their own hands.
Yep you read that right, how often do you hear something like that today?
The call for vigilantes comes as influential gang leaders who escaped from a heavily damaged prison during the country’s killer earthquake are taking advantage of a void left by police and peacekeepers focused on disaster relief.
“Even as we are digging bodies out of buildings, they are trying to attack our officers,” Cite Soleil police inspector Aristide Rosemond said, surrounded by officers wielding automatic weapons.
I know we have not had anything on this scale, but what where to happen if there was a major disaster that really causes things to get blown wide open.
But don’t worry the the UN is on it, sorta.
The Brazilian peacekeeping unit assigned to Cite Soleil lost 18 of its 145 soldiers in the earthquake. Ten perished when the “Blue House” — a landmark concrete tower converted into a U.N. post near the slum’s entrance — collapsed, leaving weapons and equipment readily available to fast-acting looters.
The U.N. peacekeeping mission also lost its chief, deputy chief and acting police commander.
The police lost an uncounted number of personnel and equipment, leaving a group of officers who in large part are just recently recruited and trained.
So I would really like to see a reply on what would happen able to hand a situation like this if full gun control would be in place? I mean this is not just a hypothetical one, this is happening today, now as we speak.

Imagine that! A poverty-stricken socialist state takes away guns and a citizen’s right to own same (could they even afford to purchase them in the first place?).
Then, when TSHTF, THEN the authoritehs give permission to defend life and property. With what? When the criminals have the guns.
The Hatain police set themselves up as the arbiters of all things lawful (or not), and are now abdicating that authority.
“The police lost an uncounted number of personnel and equipment, leaving a group of officers who in large part are just recently recruited and trained.”
How were these police lost? Through deaths? Sorry to hear that. Through retirement and attrition? Re-hire ’em back, even if temporarily. Or were the police lost through Louisiana-style post-Katrina run-away?
Not sure if I understand the last paragraph? Reads like it was written at oh-dark-too-damn-early.
We saw a test run of this scenario with New Orleans and the hurricane Katrina fiasco, where the local law enforcement was ordered to seize privately owned firearms where ever they could. As always, the law abiding dutifully turned their weapons over (with no responsibility on the part of the authorities to return them), while human filth preyed on those who were unable to defend themselves.
Claymore: That’s the exact scenario that will play out anywhere in the US in a time of natural disaster; first priority will be to take legal firearms away from lawful citizens in order to leave them defenseless to the scum that won’t be giving up any weapons. Gotta disarm the populace before helping anyone, ya know.
Molon labe, asshats.
I would like to add that France is pissed that we are basically in charge of the airport, down there, and have been comnplaining about the amount of US troops on the ground. They feel it should be the UN peacekeepers in charge of security. Sorry, I don’t have any faith that the UN peacekeepers could, or would, provide any security, because their track record has been when shots are fired, they fold back into their “secure zone” and allow whomever is shooting to keep shooting.
It’s almost as though the Belgians, French, and others want the looting and lack of security to continue, since a CNN medical reporter, who happens to also be a doctor, was left high and dry by a Belgian medical team as they were ordered out of their makeshift hospital by the UN while people needed medical assistance. They were told that it wasn’t secure and had to leave, so they took their supplies and left, leaving the CNN doctor to care for a field hospital full of casualties for the night. They even took the generator with them, so the CNN doctor had to do everything by other means.
Maybe, juuuuust maybe, that is one of the reasons there are as many US troops there as there are? Provide relief and security?? If it were left to the UN, I’m afraid that it wouldn’t get done at all and more people would die.
No matter what we do as nation we will catch hell for it. We did not enough they said, we did too much they said, I’m not sure why do we do anything anymore. Remember what what ole Napolean said, “Any society is just 3 hots meals from revolution”.
Yeah, we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t.
I want to know how the French and Belgians would be able to handle air traffic at the airport without the Carl Vinson there? For starters. Then I want to know how the vaunted UN peacekeepers would be handling security. I want to know how they plan on moving medical supplies, as well as food, water, etc., without the aid of the US. How many French and Belgian hospital ships have arrived on scene? How many water purification units and heavy equipment battalions are there from the EU? Get Gen. Honore down there to handle the situation. Of course, he would probably stomp a mudhole in the first Eurowhiner he runs across.
I have said before that folks ought to look long and hard about what’s happening down to Haiti. This is exactly what will happen when terrorists light off a nuke in some American city. Mass casualties, tens of thousands of dead, first-responders disabled, water mains broken, sewers collapsed, etc.
The survivors will be left with a very few unpalatable choices, the best of which would be to take what they can carry in a backpack and start walking away from where they are and to the outer edges of the area, and beyond.
Even before Katrina, I made up an escape plan for my family. Each member has a backpack stocked with what they will need for a minimum of 72 hours. In an emergency, all we have to do is grab our backpacks, fill up the camelbacks, and go. We have a plan of meet-up places as well, in case we are separated, and our cell phones all have the numbers of various emergency relief agencies and local first responders already onboard.
Our plan allows us to be man-portable so if we can’t use the vehicle, or get beyond a certain point, we can walk out.
No matter where you live, what condition you are in, what your assets are, etc, you need to develop a plan for evacuation. What will you need for 72 hours? How best to carry it? Food, water, medicine, clothing, first-aid, security. Think it through and make it happen.
The question though, the real important question is…do you have a Zombie Plan?
MKi-Mod2 Chainsaw, with extra fuel, parts and a a spare chain.
No shotgun? Sheesh.
And yeah, even in the sticks where I live, a walkout plan is a must, although I rather suspect that if TSHTF in Boston, they’d all be heading my way.
