Police fatally shoot chainsaw-wielding man at St. Charles senior living facility, officials say

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WLS) — A chainsaw-wielding man was shot and killed by police Sunday morning in the west suburbs, officials said.The officer-involved shooting happened in the 900 block of North 5th Avenue at the River Glen of St. Charles senior living facility, St. Charles police said.
A shirtless man was reportedly attempting to cut down a tree outside around 8:45 a.m. of the building before he then entered the senior living facility, police said. The suspect then began to confront senior home residents with his chainsaw, according to responding officers.
Police deployed a taser after attempts to de-escalate the situation failed, officials said. The man then allegedly continued his attack on tenants and officers.
At that point, an officer shot the suspect with his service weapon, St. Charles police said.

1 charged after shooting in Winston-Salem, police say
Winston-Salem police said they responded to a reported shooting around 8 p.m. on Thursday.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man has been charged after a shooting in Winston-Salem.Detectives said Jayven Shane Helton, 21, of Conover, went to 199 Northwest Boulevard and fired a gun at several people in the area.
Another person fired back at Helton and struck him. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.
Helton was charged with the following:
Felony assault with the intent to kill or inflict serious injury
Misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun (3 counts)
Misdemeanor vandalism of personal property
Misdemeanor armed to terror of the citizens
Misdemeanor discharging a firearm within city limits

Person shot, killed in Mid-City armed robbery
A suspect in an armed robbery in the Mid-City area was fatally shot by a security guard Friday, and the guard was wounded.
The shooting occurred about 10:15 a.m. at a strip mall in the 5900 block of Venice Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
According to police, two suspects went into a check-cashing business at the strip mall and confronted a security guard and the business owner. A struggle over money ensued, and a suspect — described only as a 25-year-old man — shot the 40-year-old security guard, who returned fire, striking the suspect.
The suspect died at the scene, police said, while the guard was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
The second suspect ran from the area and was still being sought as of Friday evening.
