HARTSVILLE, S.C (WMBF) – The man killed in a shooting at a park in Hartsville allegedly pulled out a gun first Wednesday night in what the town’s police chief is calling a “senseless act of violence.”

Hartsville police said this all started on the internet with 21-year-old Jeremiah Josey and his brother, 20-year-old Jarivion Scott, planning to buy a motorcycle from someone on Facebook Marketplace.

Josey, who was out on bond on house arrest and wearing an ankle monitor, asked the motorcycle seller to meet him at Byerly Park so he could buy it.

At the park, Josey pulled out a gun on the motorcycle seller and two others, according to police.

One of the victims, however, was legally armed with a gun and pulled it out, firing several times and hitting Josey, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting around 8:30 p.m., and EMS took Josey to the hospital, where he later died.

Police said Scott was also at the scene and ran away after shots were fired. Investigators arrested him and charged him with armed robbery, attempted murder, weapons violations and criminal conspiracy in connection with the incident at the park.

Scott was also out on bond after being charged in December 2023 with armed robbery and presenting a firearm, among other charges.

Authorities charged Josey with kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery and attempted murder, among other charges, in connection with two cases in 2022, leading to his monitored house arrest.

“This was a senseless act of violence that should have never happened,” Hartsville Police Chief Byron Snellgrove said. “Both suspects were out on bond for violent crimes when they should have still been incarcerated while awaiting trial.

Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 8405 Wilcrest Drive

The fatal shooting of a man at 8405 Wilcrest Drive about 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday (June 12) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The male shooter, 26, was transported to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives S. Chettry and M. Barton reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a home invasion call at an apartment complex at the above address and found two males with gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported both males to an area hospital, where one was pronounced deceased.

A preliminary investigation determined one of the males forced his way into the other male’s apartment and a struggle ensued. The surviving male (tenant) was shot at least once in the leg before he managed to take the gun away and shoot the other male (suspect).

KHOU is nowhere to be found. Thanks again Gun Bunny.

I won’t be wronged. I won’t be insulted. I won’t be laid a-hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.

Hack Stone

Hack enjoys reading stories where people who are on probation or awaiting trial are “taken care of” during the commission of additional felonies. It gives overworked Probation Officers a free half hour on their schedule and decrease your chances of having to sit on jury duty.

Graybeard

I don’t think the probation officers’ schedule allows a “free half hour” if one of their charges is removed from the gene pool – there are too many and their schedule fills up immediately if not sooner.

Those three in SC need to be awarded some of the money saved by taking out the trash.
if both those “good boyz” had’a just stayed home where they were told, none of this would’a ever happened.
Buuuuuut…..they decided to FA and they FO.

Fyrfighter

Agreed! Sad that ordinary citizens need to do the job the “justice” system is supposed to do… those two obviously came from the shallow end of the gene pool.. Freaking genius, didn’t realize that IF he had survived, his ankle monitor would put him unquestionably at the scene of the crime.. A room temp IQ will get ya every time! And momma clearly had “better ” things to do than to raise them correctly.. a year apart with different last names.. I wonder how many more siblings they had with different baby daddies…

KoB

“…room temp IQ…” Fyr, I think if one was in a room the temp of their IQ, one may want to throw another log on the fire…or maybe use it for cold storage. No street cred is given when a perp has the drop on someone with a pulled out weapon and your intended victim pulls their weapon out, scores a DRT and puts another in the wind. No points are given for having your weapon taken away from you and your wounded victim making YOU a DRT. These lads should have heeded the advice of Mr. Wayne.

Full disclosure…Both of these stories had been considered to go to the SPoTW Thread, since all three had done some stoopid stuff. However…tho there are 2+- million instances of using a firearm to defend one’s self every year, the sleeze media are making said stories harder and harder to find.

Those that have been keeping up may recall that The Gun Bunny was blessed to run up on a K-Bar at an estate type sale for just a coupla bucks. Still looking for a Randall.

I think instead of an ankle monitor. It should be a big brite red neck collar with a flag on the back side. If they’re going to release criminals, the courts should at least make it clear who to watch out for. Maybe add a little buzzing sound in case they try to cover up the collar. That’s would not be any more of a cruel and unusual punishment than releasing criminals on the public.

Fyrfighter

Agreed. Thought I am confused about one thing. It’s illegal for a felon to possess a gun, so it seems like fake news that this guy had a gun.. I mean, it’s not like gun laws are directed at otherwise law abiding citizens vs. criminals, right???

Jimbojszz

Gun laws are directed at disarming citizens so that government can control the people. Not to keep guns from criminals. Criminals with guns are unwitting tools of the left. To help advocate for gun laws and eventual banning of all firearms.

Just for the record…
Homeschooler CAN have guns in the school rooms.
And have the older students trained to respond to a threat with overwhelming firepower.

Another good reason to homeschool.

“brite red neck collar”

I’d rather they wear a brite white toilet seat.

Chicoms encourage authoritarian gov’t around the world. Why? Free countries will more likely tell them to take a hike.
