Georgia homeowner seriously wounds man during alleged break-in

by: Benjamin Aliber
Georgia, VT – A Franklin County homeowner shot and critically wounded one of three armed men he says were attempting to break into his house late Tuesday, Vermont State Police said.

Gordon Richard Sr. told police he shot Paul E. Brown, 39, of Milton and St. Albans, just after 11:30 p.m. Brown and two other men allegedly tried to enter Richard’s home on Sand Hill Road through a locked door to a section of the house where Richard’s 40-year-old son, Matthew, lived.

Richard told responding officers that he shot Brown with a muzzleloader rifle, then quickly shut the door and called police. Officers found Brown in a neighbor’s yard, but the others had already fled.

Gun Bunny and Old Tanker, of course. Thanks.

I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm’s way.

“Richard told responding officers that he shot Brown with a muzzleloader rifle…”
Should have fixed bayonets and finished the job.

Edited.

Discretion is always the better part of valor…he was probably reloading and the perps were gone when he went to take shot #2! Wonder what caliber his muzzle loader was?

Have to wonder…..was the hole in Brown, brown?
And was it large enough to throw a dead cat through?

I’ll be the FIRST to comment on the fact that the Spirit of The Green Mountain Boys is still alive and well in VT. Ethan Allen, grins.

Don’t look like the BMW driver will make it to choir practice today.

We could use the Spirit of JPJ in today’s Navy.

Who doesn’t like a nice S&W J Frame?

Don’t leave home without one!

It doesn’t say what caliber but most are in the .50 cal range. A heavy lead ball at relatively high velocity at close range is pretty dam devastating
. Definitely a poor choice of homes to break into.

Another example of Poor Victim Selection Skills.

Generally leaves an entry wound the size of an Eisenhower silver dollar.

Graybeard

Once upon a time when my beard was a wee less gray, we set up a little range in the back meadow with one gallon-jug of water.
Airborne Son, Favorite Son-in-Law, and some grandsons were along with sundry firearms, and I with my Kentucky 50. Airborne Son was trying to get all the water out of the jug with his little .22 while I loaded a round ball. I laid the bead on that jug and with a rather authoritative k’boom the jug exploded.
Airborne Son was, shall we say, expressing frustration, and Favorite Son-in-Law laughed and said “The man has spoken!

What I’m curious about is the type of muzzeloader the patriotic citizen was using. Pennsylvania long gun, Kentucky rifle, dueling pistol…? Was it a little ol’ squirrel rifle, say .32? A .50 deer rifle? Round ball or Minnie?
It doth take some time to reload in the heat of battle, yet it doth indeed speak with authority and driveth the lead with some authority. And the sweet aroma of it’s cloud of incense delighteth the senses. The bark of the gun doth inspire fear in the ne’er-do-wells and maketh a significant impression thereupon.
