Florida Army veteran helps take down carjacking suspect in Starbucks drive-thru
Shane Spicer says jumping into action during attempted carjacking was ‘instinctive’ and ‘reactionary’
By Pilar Arias Fox News
Army veteran Shane Spicer had just started his day and was waiting for coffee at a Florida Starbucks while police were after a convicted career criminal who attempted to carjack a pregnant woman. The suspect, identified by police as Michael Prouty, was wanted for allegedly breaking into someone’s home and stealing their car before crashing in a busy intersection.
Police dashcam footage shows Spicer jumping out of the passenger seat of the car behind the woman’s vehicle and hopping into her passenger seat, trying to stop Prouty.
“I’m gonna get you, buddy,” Spicer recounts jumping into action after witnessing Prouty pull the woman out of the car. “Like, you’re not going anywhere now. Like, you crossed the line.”
Bodycam video shows Spicer actually holding onto Prouty, who reportedly has 13 felony convictions dating back to 2000, while officers close in.
Spicer says his girlfriend and daughter were in the car watching while the incident went down. He told FOX 35 Orlando he was able to walk away from the “instinctive, reactionary” take-down just a little out of breath.
“I feel like if you’ve got the ability to watch out for someone, that you should,” Spicer said. “I would just hope that someone would do the same for my family.”

Bravo Zulu Shane! He’d still be locked up at Rikers Island if this was NYC.
IMPD: Suspect in police shooting reached for gun
by: Adam Pinsker
Latest: IMPD has arrested 31-year-old Dontriell Hood for his alleged role in this shooting. He faces charges of criminal recklessness, unlawfully carrying a handgun, and resisting law enforcement.
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man who police shot Friday morning near 38th Street and Keystone Avenue was in serious condition.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says it received a call around 11 a.m. Friday about a man who was acting erratic in the 3900 block of Caroline Avenue. That’s just a few blocks east of the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
IMPD Deputy Chief Michael Wolley said the man was firing a gun from inside a home near the intersection of Millersville Road and Caroline Avenue. “Evidence indicates that there were two cars struck and then a home struck on the opposite side of the street.”
Police arrived and positioned themselves behind their patrol cars in an attempt to deescalate the situation.
Officers asked the man to put his gun down and lie flat on the ground.
“After the suspect was on the ground, officers requested the suspect stand up and walk toward them, while remaining behind their patrol cars. As officers continued to give verbal commands, the suspect stopped, turned away from the officers, and began rapidly moving in the direction where the firearm was located,” Wolley said.

It looks like the DoubleTap was a troubled design and I can only find reference to it from 10 years ago. Whether confronting a career criminal like the first story, or a cop apprehending an armed suspect, the days of the Derringer-style handgun are simply over. Some people like the simplicity of the design but given the many options for semi-autos that are similar in size, have 3-5x the capacity, and are much faster to reload, it’s impractical to choose a two-shot pistol over something like a Ruger LCP or SIG P238. Sig Sauer P238 vs Ruger LCP vs DoubleTap Defense DoubleTap vs Kel-Tec P-32 vs Ruger LCP MAX size comparison | Handgun Hero The above link seems to back up my philosophy. My Kel-Tec P32 is less than half the weight unloaded and offers 7+1 rounds of .32 ACP. My LCP Max is 2/3rds the weight and offers 10+1 rounds of .380 ACP. The only metric where it seems the DoubleTap is “better” is the width. For those in the market for a Derringer, though, I would warn you away from Bearman. Go with Bond Arms (which we are supposedly going to start carrying, we have a few weirdos that come in asking about the style) or another highly reputable company. My son bought a Bearman 2-shot .380 ACP a couple of years ago. It’s difficult to cock and even with my grip strength the trigger is nearly impossible to pull with one hand. He bought the gun and was so disappointed in it that he forgot it was in a kitchen drawer for the better part of a year. It might still be there for all I know. He’s got my love of firearms, but the market is screwing him over. By his age, I had a Bushmaster AR-15, Century Arms HK91 and FAL (the latter was nice, built on an IMBEL receiver), MAK-90, and multiple SKS’. He’s got the Bearman, a .22 Mosin-Nagant lookalike he probably paid 4x more for than I paid for any of my real ones, a Chinese JTS Saiga-clone shotgun that doesn’t run,… Read more »
Sad news from our AO
A Correctional Officer was murdered last night on the job.
No details yet.
Texas just recently had a state-wide lockdown to check for contraband. Don’t know what was used, but in the past we’ve had COs injured/killed with just a pencil.
All the more reason why I never had any desire to start as a Sheriff’s Deputy; if I had decided upon the LEO route, I’d want some patrol time as a city cop, so I didn’t have to start in the Parish Prison or Detention Center if I transferred over. I’ve got an okay ground game but hate taking a punch. I’m not small but I’m also not prison big, so putting me in a concrete facility with plexiglass and maybe a few bars between me and violent felons ain’t gonna happen. A radio isn’t doing crap, and most facilities don’t allow even less lethal to be carried inside. If something changed and I decide CO is my next line of work, I’m hitting the gym three hours a day and training across multiple martial arts disciplines. Maybe ordering some phone books too, or an extra stab-proof vest.
Hopefully the CO’s family can find some peace and eventually heal. That’s probably one of the few jobs that’s even more thankless than a cop’s.
Are things that slow that we’re getting a replay of the Sunday FGS?
(Latest: IMPD has arrested 31-year-old Dontriell Hood…..)
I don’t know if that’s good (less crime to report) or bad (less crime being actually reported)
“…getting a replay of the Sunday FGS?”
Hey, it happens. You do realize that our Beloved AW1Ed, in addition to herding these cats, that ARE his monkeys (in his circus), has (a) an unpaid position (ya get what ya pay for) here, (b) a day job gig, (c) a trophy wife, (d) grandkids, (e) multiple fast toys/items with bang switches, and (f) is Navy? In addition to all of that, he does the gun pr0n searches himself as a testament to his never lost lovin’ feelin’ for us. Can’t spend all of his time in the Ladies’ Room. Da Boy barely has time to grab some mid-rats and do a little hot bunking, being as he is port and starboard in addition to his other duties. ‘sides, a repeat of Doniell from da Hood update is not a bad thing.
The (GO) Army Vet Mr. Spicer brought a little spice into Mr. Prouty and interupted Prouty re-enactment of Saint George of Fentanyl’s assault on a pregnant girl.
The government hasn’t done its’ duty for the people in a good while now. The sewer needs a good roto-rootings.
The Double Tap is a two-fer in several ways…downright fugly and basically worthless…but…it is all metal and can come in a proper caliber so there is that. Bond Arms and HMS JMB (HBHN) say…WTF!??!??
