Corrections officer shoots carjacking suspect at Pa. gas station: reports

By EmilyAnn Jackman
An attempted armed carjacking didn’t go as intended when the female victim, a state prison correctional officer, pulled out her weapon and fought back, resulting in a shootout.

The incident occurred Tuesday night around 10:30 p.m. in Philadelphia. That’s when the 35-year-old woman, who was off-duty at the time, was pumping gas near 22nd and Allegheny streets.

A man then suddenly came up behind her and put her in a bear hug, news reports said.

“The cameras clearly show the 35-year-old putting gas in her BMW vehicle when the male approaches her and grabs her … and then there’s a physical altercation and they both pull weapons and they shoot each other,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said to 6ABC.

The unidentified 22-year-old male suspect was trying to rob and carjack her, police said.

At least 11 shots were fired during the exchange.

Tri-State homeowner shoots man allegedly trespassing on property, police say

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) – A shooting investigation is underway after a man was shot late Tuesday evening in Colerain Township.

Officers heard gunshots while patrolling the Northbrook area at approximately 11:57 p.m., according to Colerain Township Police Department spokesman Jim Love.

Shortly after, officers were dispatched to the 10000 block of Sturgeon Lane for the report of a person shot.

Colerain Township police found a male with a gunshot wound, later identified as Rodney Dozier, Love said.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that Dozier was trespassing in the backyard of a nearby residence.

In an attempt to investigate noises near the home, the property owner shot Dozier and he fled the scene, police said their preliminary investigation revealed. The homeowner later called 911 to report the incident.

We may not be winning the war against those that commit nefarious activities, but some of the battles are being won. Gave a bear hung and got clawed by Mama Bear. Went from Sturgeon to needing a Surgeon.

We have a case of ignorance squawking what has been dictated to it that swoops in now and again here. It does help with the comment count, so there is that.

“…French language assigns genders to nouns…” How DARE they! What if the noun wants to identify as a verb? adjective? pronoun? It’s only a noun if it has a dangling participle! Didn’t know today’s gun pr0n would include a grammer lesson. Our Beloved AW1Ed did manage to get the Gun Bunny lost in the Rabbit Hole of the linky…Well played, Kid Squid (ht2 Ol’ Poe). Buyer beware on what you may think is an FN. Determine where and by whom it is made…FIRST!

The Squawker would really poop the rocks if it learned that German, Spanish, Portuguese, Latin, Hebrew, Greek all assigns gender to nouns.

But The Squawker is resistant to education (as opposed to indoctrination) hence it will not learn.

The FAL. I miss mine; bought it after Todd Jarrett (USPSC/ISPC shooter, at the time sponsored by Para-Ordnance) was behind the gun line at my local shop. The LDA series had just come out and we were talking about them when I noticed the FAL. Turns out there had been two, and he’d bought the other earlier that day. It was a Century Arms build on an IMBEL (Brazilian) receiver. Mags were cheap at the time, especially compared to AR15 mags, so I ended up with about 20 for $5 apiece.

Well stated. Having been a fan of Massad Ayoob since the mid’90s, I’ve always been cognizant of what to do post-shooting. Call the cops (the first caller is usually given consideration as the person in the right); comply with police once they’re on the scene, to include placing your weapon down if it’s not reholstered; make clear that you were in fear for your life and used the necessary force to eliminate the threat; refuse further statements that might prove incriminatory until a lawyer is present.

The Ayoob Files, – (americanhandgunner.com) is a treasure trove of both historical and self-defense shooting breakdowns.

You just tried to carjack a correctional officer wounding her as well. You should hope she is not assigned to the prison you’re going to.

If the other COs find out (as they will), they will make his miserable life miserabler.
I know that if a CO so desires, they can write a case on an inmate for nigh ’bout anything – the inmates are so easy to prod into being stupid(er). Get a group taking turns writing the case, and the review board won’t get too suspicious.

And, the more the cases, the further away from parole and the worse the confinement.

Were both the corrections officer and the carjacker wearing white Storm Trooper outfits?

Had a former Tx DPS trooper opine that the only shot that count are the first 3. All the rest are cover fire.

If I ever happen to be at a gas station while a police officer is filling their car, I am going to let them know; “I’ve got your six”, and will take up a position to make sure no one can ambush them.
