Meet The Burn Pit

| August 28, 2009

There’s a new blog in town, it’s from the American Legion and it’s called The Burn Pit. It’s got a cool (hot) design and it’s geared towards veterans, of course.

Oh, and you guys, the loyal, long-time denizens of This Ain’t Hell had a big hand in building it. Maybe someday you’ll hear the exciting story, your chances improve if you get the opportunity to ply one of us with alcohol.

In the meantime, go check it out. But don’t forget to come back.

I’ll go for the Life membership…

There goes my alibi of having run off to play Goofy at Disney World for a few months, but yes, I have been, and remain VERY busy with getting the burnpit up. If you guys have ideas on how to improve it, please feel free to let me know what you want.

Oh, and I am NOT leaving TAH, so IVAW is still not in the clear. The other one is my work blog, this is *my* blog, and for the love of God do not confuse who I am speaking for here: Me, Myself and I alone.

If that thing doesn’t get recognized in the milblog awards this year, it will be a freakin’ set up.

Just A Grunt

Ya know summtin. I need to get off my ass and go join the American Legion. I have always had an aversion to joining veterans groups for some reason. Maybe it is the fact that I was nothing but a Cold War Warrior, but given what the American Legion has been doing recently and seeming to speak up for veterans and not just being another gathering place for folks to go and retell war stories and hang out they are changing my opinion.

I like the fact that recently they have actually been in front of the news that could affect veterans rather then just reporting on things after the fact. Maybe that is due to the leadership they have now, and if so kudos to them. The Legion above all the other organizations seems to be taking an active rather then a passive role.

I’ll prolly have to do the same. I’m already a life-member of the DAV, but considering what the Legion has been doing for all of us lately, I ought to throw some love their way.

Jamw96

Very nicely done, I’ll be back to both

Grunt,

That is something I need to do too. I went to one outpost in San Antonio but it had a feel of a seedy bar rather then of a Veterans group. I have not tried the ones in Georgia.

TSO

You guys tell me where you are, and I will find you a good post. The guy in Georgia that is the day to day guy is one of my favorite human beings EVER, so I will find you something.

sporkmaster

I am in Fort Benning area, so I will definitely follow up on any place you can send me too.

I was raised in the Legion around many WWII vets and their families. My dad was a life member of the Legion and held about every office over the years. My mom is a life member of the Legion Auxiliary and has held about every office over the years. I have fond memories of our family spending many hours working and playing at the local post. I then married a sailor and have to get on his butt about joining again. He was a member for quite a few years and just let his membership lapse.
