Murder suspect killed during shooting involving South Gate officer in Vernon, police say
The suspect reportedly tried to wrestle a weapon away from a female officer, authorities said.

A murder suspect was fatally shot in Vernon Wednesday morning after fleeing from members of a multi-agency gang task force and trying to wrestle a weapon away from a female officer, authorities said.

According to the South Gate Police Department, the shooting occurred at 7:12 a.m. in the 5600 block of District Boulevard in a truck yard. Video from the scene showed a body covered by a sheet.

According to South Gate Police Chief Darren Arakawa, officers from multiple agencies involved with the task force carried out searches of various locations, primarily homeless encampments along the Los Angeles River bed.

Indianapolis police: Man critical after being shot by officers following carjacking, chase

Sarah Nelson
Update: The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department identified the officers who fired shots as 6-year veteran Officer David Yohe and 5-year veteran Officer Donovan Hankins.

Update: Indianapolis police on Thursday identified the suspect as 33-year-old Michael Barnes. He was arrested on a violation of probation warrant out of Grant County stemming from a 2018 case, in which he was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine, theft and possession of marijuana. Police said Barnes will be arrested in connection with the carjacking-turned-car chase that occurred Wednesday. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine charges.

Indianapolis police officers shot a man Wednesday at the on-ramp from Kessler Boulevard to the southbound lanes of Interstate 65.

The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. and the person shot was taken to the hospital in critical condition. No officers were hurt.

The events leading up to the shooting began just after 4 p.m. when Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to a crash in the 5600 block of Georgetown Road. Before officers arrived, a passenger in one of the damaged vehicles carjacked a black four-door Chevrolet Impala that was uninvolved in the crash, IMPD said.

The carjacking led to a vehicle pursuit within minutes, police said in a news release, in which the vehicle stopped at the I-65 onramp at Kessler Boulevard. Police approached the Impala at the same time a man exited the vehicle, turning toward officers with a gun in his hand.

Using a car crash to jack an upgrade? That’s just methed up. Thanks again, Gun Bunny.

FWIW, I like that wheel-gun.

Notice how the perps tend to go after the female officers to try to get away?
Don’t they know that women are just as good as men at physical combat? /s
Glad they were able to plug his idiocy.

Yep!…I’ll take mine in a .45 calibre. May and/or may not have a supply of those sized beebees.

The suspect tried to take away the officer’s gun, and eventually punched the female officer in the face, who responded by shooting the suspect, police said.” You GO!, Girl!

If Mr. Barnes had of been in prison where he belonged, instead of on probation, he may not of found himself in the body and fender shop for hoomans.

It’s a fact…our current grubermint IS a joke…and they bear watching.

Assaulting an armed police officer has historically been proven to be poor victim selection. There never seems to be any shortage of these willing to give it a go. The pool of stupid is nigh bottomless.

I’ve noticed our opposite number at Gun Violence Archive are keeping score as well and doing a better job. A better job than us and a better job than in the past. In the past they would remove a defensive shooting if the shoot was later found to be justified. If there was an indictment they would follow up with that. Now they are just leaving it all out there. Not sure they realize what message they are sending.

Gun violence is something I’d rather live without. Unfortunately I can’t get everyone else on the planet to agree with me. Till they do the dance continues.

Accuracy isn’t 100%. They reported no score here and armed robber is dead as a hammer.

Pawn shops tend not to be the best places to start a life of crime. That life tends to run short anyway but in a pawn shop it is measured in minutes not years.

I remember a pawn shop shooting in East Topeka many decades back. Story went that 4 guys robbed a pawn shop – while the last two were leaving they mistakenly both turned to go out the door, giving the owner an opportunity. Two melon shots, one to blow out the door glass, two more head shots just outside. 5 rounds, 4 head shots, no perp survivors. THAT is some shooting.

An acquaintance tells the story of a very old grumpy pawnbroker in Philly.

Hoodlum pulls a P.O.S. Raven .25 to rob the geezer. Sticks it in his face.

Geezer scowls at it, then in a shockingly fast move, snatches it out of the hood’s hand. He then clears it, works action and pulls trigger. Sets it down and says

“Ten bucks”

Hood, still shocked, says “….okay…”

Geezer opens the drawer gives goober ten, drops the gun in the drawer, and closes it. Hood departs.

Graybeard

I suspect Geezer was hoping Hood would reconsider his life choices.
Geezer may even have recognized Hood from the hood.

That looks like a good resource.
We’re pretty dependent upon finding incidents reported by some news outlet – and KoB does yeoman’s labor doing that.

Tanks, Graybeard, I ‘preciate them kind words. I look at a number of news feeds, linkys, and individual sources several times a day. A number of FGS hide behind paywalls and I may have to Google Foo for the same story on another source. And a number of them may be “developing” stories with limited details. We also try to narrow the selection to ones that are true, solid self defense, or good shoots. The struggle can be reelz. Got one in the queue now that the shooter (sd) may want to retain the services of a good lawer. As we’ve seen in the last 24 hours, can’t never tell what a POS DA or a stacked jury may decide. Good on the Texas Guv for stepping up to do the right thing.
