Western and Russian military industry capacities as related to Ukraine

| March 27, 2023

The Russians identified a reality that the West has already acknowledged, that the Ukrainians are using up more ammunition than what the United States could produce per month. However, the Russians also face a similar challenge. The United States is not the only Western country providing military equipment and rounds related support to Ukraine. The article shows a video where a Russian TV commentator suggests that if a country attempts to arrest Vladimir Putin, that country should receive a missile strike.

From Newsweek:

Putin said Russia would produce and upgrade a total of 1,600 modern tanks within the next three years, as well as tripling production of ammunition.

He also claimed Ukraine uses 5,000 shells every day, with the U.S. producing between 14,000 and 15,000 each month.

The Kremlin leader’s comments, arguing that the West cannot keep up with current aid to Ukraine, was intended to “create the false impression” that supporting Ukraine is “futile,” the ISW said.

Yet Putin’s comments are “not supportable,” the ISW argued, saying the U.S. and other Western countries would face economic decisions about large quantities of military aid, “but the choices they face are nothing like as hard as those confronting Russia.”

These Western nations do not need to adopt a “wartime footing” to back Kyiv, which is what Moscow must do to keep up its current military operations, the think tank continued.

Putin’s comments “do not reflect current Russian realities or the balance of economic power or military industrial capacity between Russia and the collective West,” according to the ISW.

Newsweek has the rest of the article here.

Hopefully the Ukraine Mil. isn’t spraying and praying using up the ammo

USMC Steve

They were trained in the Warsaw pact school of infantry, which is to leave it on full auto and fire until the magazine goes dry. One shot, one kill is something they have no concept of.

timactual

The Ukrainians have been undergoing training by NATO forces for a few years now. There was, for example, a California(?) National Guard unit in Ukraine training the Uke forces before the invasion. Uke forces in batallion strength are being trained in NATO countries now.

The US seems to think full-auto fire is a desirable feature for an infantry rifle/carbine, as all of them since the M-16 have it, including the new XM5. Evidently “one shot, one kill” is not a US priority, either.

The US is the largest arms dealer in the world by dollars, no one else is even close. The US produces and sells more than the next eight countries combined. This doesn’t include giveaways.

I guess the Russians think the U.S. will go bankrupt before they run out of cannon fodder.

If the Norks or the ChiComs start to add troops to the fray it could get close.

I guess the Russians think the U.S. will go bankrupt before they run out of cannon fodder.”

Like what happened when the Rooskies tried to keep up with the US until 1989?

More or less, it’s the Russky way of war.

Or works when the enemy is trying to field an army in North West Asia in Winter. The rest of the time not so much.

By any measure…the US is bankrupt. Only its status as the world’s reserve currency keeps the charade going.

You must live in the United States of Mexico. My country isn’t bankrupt yet. My country is the world’s largest producer of oil, passenger vehicles and weapons.

Sure the Democrats are trying to take all that away but they haven’t succeeded yet. We are also the world’s largest exporter of food, services, refined petroleum and a bunch of other things.

“My country isn’t bankrupt yet.”

Maybe not technically, but only because the gov’t. can create more money when we need to pay our expenses.

Javelin vs T-34

5JC

T34 is an M1 fight. One M1 can destroy a whole battalion of t52s or 62s without breaking a sweat. It’s been done.

IED vs M1 Abrams Tank. Iraqi insurgents destroyed and damaged dozens. The Kurds wrecked the Turkish German Leapard tanks. And FYI, the Russians have their own version of the Javilen.

5JC

Insurgents aren’t a tank fight. Took a minute for the US to get that one sorted.

America and the EU have very little industrial base left. Yes, Putin is correct.

David

Our “very little” is more than most can achieve without years of ramping up.

5JC

Do you have any facts to back these assertions? Because you are as wrong as Putin invading the Ukraine.

David

This is why smart militaries know that wars are won by manufacturing and logistics, not gee-whiz wonderweapons.

Remember, while we’re short sh*t and can’t do a whole lot for long without running out, April and October are ideal times for Chicoms to cross the strait versus Taiwan. Just sayin’.

For some odd reason we are forgetting
That china has been producing mass loads
Of ammo for Russia now for about 7-9 months
I’m at a loss for why our government and spin-zone media act like they are not doing it

The media isn’t ignoring it.

Just An Old Dog

Russia has a LONG way to go before getting on the same footing as the West in Military Production. It is a absolutely dog-shit Kleptocracy where the corruption in their MIC and MOD is so deep seated it would take decades of rooting them out by a honest government ( which they don’t have) would make any headway.
