Teenager shot by Sioux Falls police after pointing fake gun at officer, police say
Shelly Conlon and Alfonzo Galvan, Sioux Falls Argus Leader
A 17-year-old male was shot one time by a Sioux Falls police officer after the teenager pointed what turned out to be a “facsimile” gun at police, Chief Jon Thum said. The teenager was hospitalized, but his condition hasn’t been released.
The incident started at 5:11 p.m. when the subject made a call to 911 and told the dispatcher to “send a cop and an ambulance, because I’m about to commit a felony,” Thum said.
During the call to dispatch the teenager claimed to have a shotgun, according to scanner traffic. He told dispatchers he was willing to shoot anybody and get shot at.
The teenager was threatening his ex-girlfriend and some others inside a residence in the area of Astoria Drive and Whistler Court in northwestern Sioux Falls, Thum said.

Thanks again for the links, Gun Bunny. I do wonder what the gentleman in the prior article brought, if anything.

Never bring a facsimile gun to a gun fight.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Yes. That is worse than bringing a knife to a gunfight. At 21 feet, a fake gun will still look like a real gun. If a cop sees you just pointing it in his general direction, he is authorized to shoot you, in most jurisdictions, if he reasonably believes it is real.
Seems like the stupid is getting worse as the year goes on.
Yep! Some days I have to use a Digital Decision Device (Flippable Coin) to determine if I submit to AW1Ed for the FGS Thread or to Mason for his Stupid People of The Week Thread. The struggle is real. Pay walls and piss poor writing of the articles doesn’t help.
Anybody else notice the FIRST (ht 2 CW) reason that the Colt Woodsman is so popular with collectors? “Designed by [HMS] John Moses Browning [HBHN]” Need we say more? Not much into plinking targets but that would be nice to shore up the North Wall against the squirrels that are assaulting my pecan and Black Walnut trees.
Our beloved AW1Ed could learn Mr Heinlein a thing or 2 about outstubborning cats…and the herding thereof.
So, is your Digital Decision Device a Challenge Coin?
It’s a challenge to determine which thread to submit the story for?
(Yeah, I ended a sentence with a preposition. I’m not teaching English today.)
Do you know where the restroom is at?
Don’t end a sentence with a preposition.
Do you know where the restroom is at, asshole?
If the Sister Mary’s at St. Catholic’s had been this entertaining, I probably would have paid attention better.
As Churchill said, “A dangling preposition is something up with which I will not put.”
A good .22 pistol is a thing of beauty and joy…KoB might note that the Browning .22s were designed by Browning’s grandsons, and correct many of the perceived weaknesses of the Woodsman series.
The TAH Coffee Table Book of What Not to Bring… is getting more and more entries.
I’m expecting full color illustrations so the Marines can read it too.
Line drawing pictures with a box of (edible) crayons included.
So the 17 year old mope has learned that life’s reset button comes with a painful consequence.
