Message to NY Republicans: Just leave, go to Florida where you belong!
Governor Kathy Hochul reportedly told New York’s Republicans to hop on a bus and to go to Florida “where they belong”. She apparently does not believe that they are true New Yorkers. With wealth generators/job creators, and residents leaving, New York faces growing challenges with meeting its projected budget gaps. These challenges further strengthen when one considers the reduction of tax collections if all the Republicans listened to her and moved to another state.

In her attempt to be snappy, Hochul exposed a major problem that has gripped our state since the dawn of the Cuomo-Hochul era: New Yorkers are leaving, and they’re taking their tax dollars with them.
Hochul should be doing everything she can to encourage people to come to New York, not to leave. But she’s hasn’t. And her record $220 billion budget suggests she has no interest in ever letting taxpayers off a heavy hook.
New York City residents pay the highest combined state and local personal income tax rate in the nation. Those high taxes and other factors have led to a mass exodus of jobs and job creators. The Big Apple has yet to recover its pre-pandemic employment levels — coming in roughly 300,000 jobs below the February 2020 mark as of July. Two-plus years of pandemic-induced remote work have only accelerated the trend of New Yorkers seeking better and/or cheaper opportunities elsewhere.
A more cynical person might think this has been the strategy all along: Make it uncomfortable for your political foes in New York and they’ll leave. But it’s not just Republicans leaving — despite the governor’s command. New Yorkers from across the political spectrum are united by, and running from, a common enemy: the taxman.
Polling has shown high taxes are the primary reason New Yorkers are considering or making plans to bolt the state — and that’s the case across key subgroups: Democrats, Republicans, liberals, moderates, conservatives, all income groups, all age cohorts beyond age 24 and almost all education levels.

New York City is known as The Big Apple (Manhatten) so I take it that she is talking just about New York City OR all the outsides Counties in New York State. making up the city of New York are the 5 Bouroughs which are Manhatten, The Bronx, Kings County (Brooklyn) Queens County and Staten Island and all are called Bouroughs as mentioned above, with all the 5 bouroughs being in new York State.I believe Big Apple was chosen by a singer years ago and the name stuck. I should have looked up who gave it the name. Sinatra maybe???

It was in common use in black communities including horse racing and jazz prior to 1920. Fitz Gerald popularized in the 1920s to everyone else when he overheard some black track workers refer to it as such.

Here in the Ouachita mountains of western Arkansas, we’re experiencing this: We get fed-up conservatives from Illinois and Michigan but we are also getting too many California libs because of our very low housing prices.
Those assholes can sell their cookie cutter homes on postage stamp lots in the LA or San Francisco suburbs, buy a spacious, custom-built, lakefront home here on acreage, and still have a few hundred thousand left over. I agree that the millions of Republicans should move out of New York. What are doing there in the first place? I lived in NJ and worked in NYC but moved away 25 years ago. They should take their jobs and the taxable income to place like Georgia, Pennsylvania, and other swing states to shift the tide. NYC is anchor around the neck of a drowning state that cannot be saved. Let it collapse and implode and become what was predicted in Escape from New York in 1981.
P.S. I worked remotely for a Big 4 accounting firm’s NYC offices while still living in Florida for 13 months during the pandemic. Since is was contracted through a third party, I got an NYC salary but paid Florida state income tax…$0. Sweet deal. Fuck em’ if they want to stay.
The dems have been known as the tax and spend party for many decades now. Why is it such a surprise that folks are just now seeing it. IMO this is just a self inflicted wound.
