Stupid people of the week
Apologies for missing the weekly post yesterday, I’m a bit bogged down at the moment by the loss of my father.
Police Arrest PA Man For Allegedly Trying To Buy Stolen Human Remains. His Mug Shot Is About What You’d Expect
A Pennsylvania man, Jeremy Lee Pauley, has been arrested on charges of abuse of a corpse, receiving stolen property, and dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities for allegedly trying to purchase human remains stolen from a mortuary, police announced Thursday.
“Human remains were located in Enola, Arkansas and Scranton. Those human remains were being sold on Facebook for monetary gain. Pauley was arrested and released on $50,000 dollars unsecured bail,” police said.
Reports of “suspicious activity” were connected to Enola in June. An investigation between East Pennsboro Township Police, FBI Harrisburg, FBI Scranton, FBI Arkansas, Arkansas State Police and other law enforcement groups ensued. They discovered skeletons and other human remains in Pauley’s home — including those of children.
ABC6 says Pauley described himself as a collector of “oddities.” He allegedly sought to purchase human remains from an Enola woman and reportedly told investigators he intended to resell the body parts after agreeing to pay the Arkansas woman $4,000 on Facebook Marketplace.
“We are very respectful of those who donate their bodies, and we are appalled that such a thing could happen,” a spokeswoman at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock told The AP.
“I think I’ve seen it all, and then something like this comes around,” Sean McCormack, district attorney for Cumberland County, Pennsylvania said, according to ABC6. “The question we had to answer was, Is the sale of body parts or bones and remains illegal … or legal? Some of it, to our surprise, was legal. And as the investigation went on, it became clear there was illegal activity going on as well.”

Customer jailed after dispute over smoothie ends with food flying, Virginia cops say
Smoothies and snickerdoodle cookies sailed through the air when a customer dispute turned physical at a Virginia cafe, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
It happened around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, at a Tropical Smoothie Cafe in Fredericksburg, Virginia, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Fredericksburg is about 50 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.
“The investigation revealed a customer was unhappy with her smoothie,” officials said.
“The customer threatened to beat up the employee and continued to scream at staff in the store. She proceeded to go behind the counter and shove an employee before she was pulled away by her companion.”
Before leaving the shop, the woman cleared the counter of products with a swipe of her arms, shoving four smoothies to the floor and throwing “14 snickerdoodle cookies into the trash,” the sheriff’s office said.
The customer, identified as a 33-year-old woman from Washington, D.C., was found in a nearby parking lot, officials said. She was arrested on charges of “assault and battery and destruction of property,” officials said.

Jersey Shore Christians Accused of ‘Bullying’ LGBTQ+ for Building Cross-Shaped Ocean Pier
A community along the Jersey Shore established as a Methodist retreat in 1869 is building a pier out of its boardwalk shaped like a cross, prompting outrage from the neighboring LGBTQ+ enclave, NJ Advance Media reported Monday.
Ocean Grove, New Jersey, broke ground on a project to restore a pier jutting out of the boardwalk in July that will feature a design that resembles a cross from above. The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, the Methodist organization that founded the community and still owns most of the land, has said that the design is an “improvement” that will allow more people to enjoy being out over the water, compared to the pier that it will replace. The project is part of larger restorations still ongoing since Superstorm Sandy devastated much of the Jersey Shore in 2012.
Ocean Grove is located next to Asbury Park, New Jersey. Beachgoers can walk the boardwalk out of one town into the other.
Asbury Park — also founded as a Methodist enclave — was once a working-class community that has seen high levels of wealthy developer funding on its beachside, changing the demographics of the area and, according to some critics, pricing local black and Hispanic communities out of their own neighborhoods. That process has led to the development of a thriving LGBTQ+ tourism industry, including hotels and clubs that cater to the community.
The cross-shaped pier has ignited a clash between these two communities, as a local decries the project as “Christian bullying,” NJ Advance Media reported.
“Members of the small seaside town’s LGTBQ+ community and allies are saying the cross crosses a line, but many are afraid to voice their grievances with the Camp Meeting Association, said Douglas Grote, a local resident and retired Presbyterian pastor,” the article read.
The Camp Meeting Association owns the land the pier is being built on, so it does not legally count as a government project and does not require municipal approval.

Chuck E. Cheese brawl in South Carolina results in 2 adults charged
Two people have been charged with breach of peace after a large brawl at a Chuck E. Cheese in South Carolina.
Authorities responded to the fight at the kids’ restaurant on Saturday. North Charleston police have identified the suspects as 48-year-old Lizeller Dixon and 26-year-old DaShawn Grant.
Responding officers were told someone at the location had a gun, according to a report obtained by FOX Television Stations.
Officers found a large crowd arguing and attempting to attack each other. Officers detained at least two people, one for allegedly hitting a security guard and another who reportedly instigated the incident.
The security guard says he was trying to put handcuffs on someone involved when he was hit with a closed fist.
One of the suspects said his girlfriend was assaulted by two unknown men when he tried to intervene by getting the security guard to help. He said he didn’t hit the guard and was misidentified by the guard when police arrived.
The police report did state that the guard could not later identify who hit him.
When officers attempted to clear the restaurant, the crowd reportedly continued to verbally threaten and attempt to attack one another.

Two Marines dine-and-dash at Waffle House, then vandalize helicopter, NC officials say
I really wonder just how easy it was to peg these two as Marines. The haircut, the tattoos, the red and gold shirts, saying “Semper Fi!” before leaving?
Two U.S. Marines damaged a helicopter just after dining and dashing at a Waffle House in North Carolina, officials said.
The act of vandalism left the helicopter with broken windows and about $1,000 in damage on Saturday, Aug. 20, according to police in Havelock. The Eastern North Carolina city is home to U.S. Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point.
The damage was reported after a video captured two men walking up to the aircraft on display outside of the Tourist and Event Center in Havelock.
Officials said one of the men climbed onto a RF-4B phantom II plane and took photos. Both men are accused of trying to spin the blades of a HH-46E model helicopter and getting inside the aircraft.
“This particular airplane means a lot to Eastern North Carolina because of all of the lives over the years that they’ve rescued or gotten out of the hurricane situations,” Richard Hazlett, aviation curator for the city, told WNCT.
The vandalism was reported at about 3 a.m., roughly an hour after officials said the same suspects ate at a nearby Waffle House. Photos posted to Facebook appear to show one of the suspects at the restaurant wearing a sweatshirt with the letters “USMC,” an abbreviation for the U.S. Marine Corps.
“The two males walked out of the restaurant without paying for their food,” the Havelock Police Department wrote in a Facebook post. “Waffle House reviewed their video camera footage and recognized the two males from the Tourist & Event Center footage.”
Now, officials credit that unpaid Waffle House bill and investigative work with helping them identify two suspects. The men were “charged with injury to real property and a city ordinance violation of disorderly conduct,” police wrote.
The two men went back to Cherry Point ahead of a September court date. An investigation into the Waffle House incident was ongoing as of Aug. 23, officials said.
