Starbucks is closing some stores due to improper actions by those in the community
Some of the stores that Starbucks is closing are located in Seattle, Everett, Los Angeles, and Portland Oregon. Staff and customers have experiences at the stores that are not usually experienced at other stores. For example, Starbucks bathrooms being used for doing drugs, homeless people walking in and causing scenes, and people making those in the store feel unsafe. Starbucks employees at the impacted stores have the opportunity to ask for a transfer to another store.
From the Post-Millennial:
The coffee giant said the move was part of an attempt to increase security at the shops. In a memo to employees released on Monday, Starbucks senior vice presidents for US operations Denise Nielsen and Debbie Stroud said the changes are in response to issues involving “personal safety, racism, lack of access to health care, a growing mental health crisis, rising drug use and more” in the stores.
“We read every incident report you file–it’s a lot,” the pair wrote in the memo. They added, “We cannot serve as partners if we don’t first feel safe at work.”
Starbucks employees have previously told The Post Millennial that they have to deal with customers “doing drugs in bathrooms” and regularly have to clean up drug paraphernalia and needle debris. Additionally, “the homeless wander in off the streets and harass employees and customers.”
A company spokesperson told the Seattle Times that the decisions on which stores to close were based on how many crime-related complaints were logged at each store and if attempts to lower those rates were successful.
The company also announced that store managers will be allowed to decide if store bathrooms are open to to non-paying customers and that new stores will be redesigned for safety and workers will be trained on how to deal with active shooters and use conflict de-escalation.
According to the memo, redesigns for safety will include “adjusting store formats, furniture layouts, hours of operation, staffing, or testing store-specific solutions.” The upgrades could also include bathroom occupancy sensors and alarm systems plus company paid ride shares for employees.

Meh, I never use them and when we traveled we avoided seattle like the plague.
Wait, wait.
Doesn’t Starbucks just love lefty politics that creates these environments?
Do they understand this is just the consequence of those policies?
How dare they discriminate against the homeless and druggies?

Haha, enjoy the fruits of “woke”-ness!
On a side note, the city of seattle are offering people mucho bucks to join their dwindling police dept. plus bucks to come over from another state/dept.
2nd highest paying in the country right now. Rookies with a HS Diploma start off at $90k+ a year without overtime. It easily goes in to the low hundreds.
And not worth it to be hamstrung trying to do a job where the people who hired you remind you on a daily basis how much they despise you.
Wasn’t Starbucks founded in Seattle? Irony at it’s finest.
I remember several years ago when Starbucks did a nationwide stand down for several hours. They were doing stoe training to get people back into the mindset of “coffee”. Not pizza, not I phones, not hot dogs, not cologne, etc. You get my point.
During this time, Dunkin Donuts offered dime donuts and nickel coffee. really put them on the map.
Cannot stand Starbucks. Black coffee is how I drink it. Hate waiting in line for the 20 millennials ordering the fu-fu shit.
The air is THICK with irony!
Excuse me, while I attempt to squeak out a tear for Starbucks.
Nope. Fuck them.
Sure would wish that they would go into details regarding the “racism” angle.
My thoughts exactly… unless it’s AGAINST white people, I’m gona throw the bullshit flag until proven otherwise..
Ha ha. Policies rooted in naïveté turn out to be failures in reality. Just one more reason why I won’t be retiring to my beloved Washington state. (Love the state. Hate the people that moved there and ruined it.)
As Seattle drives out the tax base, look for the sales tax to increase and a state income tax to drop (at which time I sever my remaining connection with the the state).
You made your bed, now you get to sleep in it. Behold my field…it is barren.
Wasn’t it in Philadelphia several years ago where a manger was fired after she called the cops on two “businessmen” who refused to order anything and would not leave? And she was following company policy at the time.
Glad to see it…fuck Starbucks
