Inflation motivates retiree to return to the workforce

| June 5, 2022

Tina Caston has been retired for a couple of decades. She engaged in activities that retirees normally engaged in, to include volunteer work. Unfortunately, inflation has caused her to consider updating her resume and returning to work. She reports that other seniors are considering this option.

From Fox News:

“I’m going back to get a resume put together, so it can be current and attractive and hirable. I need to go back to work,” she said.

Caston, who has been retired for 20 years, told “Fox & Friends Weekend” host Rachel Campos-Duffy she is not the only retiree considering a return to the workforce, noting her volunteer work with AARP’s Veteran Outreach Program where she finds other seniors are weighing similar options.

“I find a lot of my fellow volunteers are thinking about the same thing,” she said, going on to add that odd jobs and temporary work are no longer enough for some to make ends meet. “We’re no longer just poll workers when there’s an election. We are actually looking for part-time work first, and some of us are looking for full-time work.”

Caston told Duffy that she is making other unique sacrifices to combat inflationary pressures, including splitting groceries with her neighbor.

“I have a membership to Costco; she has a membership to BJ’s, so we do some price comparisons and we split, and I split with family members also,” she said. Caston added that she is opting to buy in bulk, purchase more non-perishables, use senior discounts and clip coupons to cut costs further.

Need to send it to a few other places.

Yep, Building Back Better. In less than two years the price for a gallon of gas has more than doubled. Can America survive until January 2025?

When in the Course of human events, selling drugs is no longer profitable and tills at the packy run dry so armed robbing them is fruitless, a decent respect for not starving to unlife requires they-retired folks (along with the remaining whole of a FREE PEOPLE) should declare the causes which impel them to harken loudly and vociferously:

FUCK JOE BIDEN!

Since I have a theme of retort goings-on for the Highly Lardered Pigs of Industry and Government (same-same), our musical interlude will be of the retired generation. Thank you for your additions to this society and contribution to the ‘Peoples Treasury’…. now flip my burger, grandma! (<- this is satirical, no h8 plz)

Sorry to for the lies of Social Security, Medicare, and where your IRA/401(k)s are ’bout to go.

Should add Tubular Bells, (the whole album) as we watch the younger generation as their heads spin around and around…

Good music played low for Scripture reading and revival too.

By the Authority vested in me as Good Ol’ Southern Boy, I hereby decree that Hoover Hogs be henceforth known as “Biden Beef.”
So let it be written.
So let it be done.

Welp, the good news is that Granny (or anybody else looking for a job) won’t have a problem finding work.

Crime. That’s apparently legal, now, and you needn’t waste time updating a résumé.

Just remember to report stolen property/illegal income at tax time !! 😎

I’m still working, no plans on retiring yet.
I have my 1st retirement (20 yrs Army), enough to continue to make mortgage payments.
When will I 2nd retire? Only God knows. And as the joke goes, “Wanna make God laugh? Tell Him your plans.”

USAFRetired

I’m probably less than 12 months from retiring.

Yesterday morning we were out running errands and stopped in one of the local Chik Fil A and the lunch staff was mostly folks older than me both genders.

Ol’ Poe is sure (well not actually) that he’s offered this advice before on this site: One way to offset sudden increases in energy costs is to invest a few grand of your savings and investments in energy stocks or energy mutual funds.

When the kind of crap we’re experiencing now comes along, the increases in your investment value may be enough to fully offset your higher energy expenditures, and perhaps even turn you a nice profit.

Having married a West Texas sweet thang, Poe did this for years until she inherited a small interest in family oil leases making it no longer necessary. As these current oil/gas prices keep climbing, so do her monthly royalty checks and by a good bit more than what we’re paying out in extra fuel costs.

So fuck Joe Biden…and the whores he rode in on… 🖕 🖕 🖕

KoB

“…and the whores he rode in on…” *giggle snort* I saw what you did there Ol’ Poe…Good one! Tho, IMO, joe IS the whore that the ChiComs (and ‘kranians) are riding on.

Good call

One thing I learned 30 years ago was that a lot of utility Companies have customer stock purchase plan that you could invest in direct without benefit of using a stock broker and these stocks typically were dividend paying stocks. And once you owned one share you could make optional additional cash purchases. As a result I bought stocks and reinvested the dividends in Dominion Energy, Oklahoma Gas & Electric, Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONEOK) and its spin off One Gas. Southern Company (parent of Georgia Power among others). I also bought shares direct in Exxon (now Exxon- Mobil)

The income these generate more than cover my current utilities to include electric, cable/internet and gas for the cars.

And then there are utilities like PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric).

I never lived (other than to visit) Cali so passed that up.

They should just print more money and give it away to old people and everyone. That will fix the problem.

Roh-Dog

Clearly this line of thinking has been 100% consequence-free.

$1 trillion notes enroute!

I hope they put O’Xiden’s face on them so when used as toilet paper…

Last fill up for truck was $131. I still had 1/4 tank left. And gas at the Casa de Sparky Western Annex just jumped 25-30 cents per gallon since yesterday.
Atta boy, Joe. You’d fuck up a wet dream.

timactual

Last time I filled mine up the pump shut itself off at $100 even. I think the station put a limit on it.
