Police: Armed man killed in standoff with SWAT officers in Gilbert

Gilbert police shot and killed a 27-year-old man after a three-hour standoff at an apartment complex Friday night.According to Gilbert police, officers were first alerted of the situation when the man’s ex-girlfriend called 911 around 7:50 p.m. She claimed the man, who police say had a court-ordered Order of Protection against, was on his way to her apartment.
Gilbert officers were dispatched to the apartment complex near Val Vista Drive and Williams Field Road. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the man while he was still on route, the department said in a Facebook post.
Upon making contact with the first officers on the scene, the man, who police say was armed with a handgun, fled prompting an air and land search of the apartment area as well as a defensive perimeter around the woman’s home, according to the department.
Gilbert SWAT officers were called to negotiate with the man, who was still armed and unwilling to surrender after he was located sometime after, police said.

14-year-old Michigan robbery suspect turned in by no-nonsense mom

A 14-year-old Michigan boy was arrested for robbing a local liquor store after his mother had tipped police off, saying she had found her son with a “large sum of money”.A Capitol Wine and Liquor store employee in Troy called police to the scene at around 5:38 pm after a boy came and approached her demanding her to “empty the register.”
The boy did not produce a weapon, according to the worker. He did, however, seem to hide his right hand in his pocket during the altercation.
The boy then fled the scene on foot with the money.
Police then received a call a few hours later from a woman claiming her son was acting strange. She stated he had a “large sum of money” that he wasn’t supposed to have, according to officials.
