Bodycam: Man fired 2 shots before being shot, killed by KDPS officer
by: Rachel Van Gilder
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says an officer shot and killed a man Sunday after he fired at least two shots, including one at officers.KDPS Chief Vernon Coakley on Monday identified the man killed as Nicholas Conklin, 33, of Battle Creek.
Coakley said officers were called to a house split up into apartments on S. Westnedge Avenue near Minor Avenue at 10:14 a.m. Sunday.
They had gotten a tip that Conklin was there, that he was driving a pickup truck stolen out of Van Buren County and that he was armed. Coakley said Conklin was wanted on five outstanding arrest warrants, though he didn’t say exactly what for, and added that he was a suspect in a recent hit-and-run in Kalamazoo County.
Around 10:29 a.m., Coakley said, officers were invited into the common area of the house and knocked on the door of the second-floor apartment where they were told Conklin was.

Florida Highway Patrol trooper attacked on interstate and bystanders come to his aid, dashcam video shows
Florida Highway Patrol dashcam captured the incident

The Florida Highway Patrol is sending its thanks to a group of good Samaritans who came to a trooper’s aid after he was attacked on an interstate in Tampa on Friday.Dashcam video of the encounter shows the trooper informing the suspect, 24-year-old Alexander Hernandez Delgado, that he can’t walk on the interstate.
Delgado told the trooper that he’s an artist and was walking on the roadway because his mom kicked him out of the house, the trooper wrote in an arrest report.
“I then searched the subject and attempted to place him in the back of my patrol car. The subject became argumentative and stated that I am bothering him and that he would like to be left alone,” the trooper wrote in the report. “The subject then pulled away and then threw a punch with his left hand that [struck] me in the face.”
The video shows the suspect hitting the trooper in the face before the two go off-camera in the median, where the trooper wrote that Delgado struck him several more times.
After the trooper tackled Delgado, an 18-wheeler and another car pulled over and several bystanders jumped in to help the officer subdue Delgado.

UPDATE: DCI investigating officer-involved shooting after barricaded subject killed in Hanson County
Hunter Dunteman, The Daily Republic, Mitchell, S.D.
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is on scene near Farmer investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one person dead.Authorities in Hanson County on Saturday evening responded to a rural address in the area of 24800 South Dakota Highway 25 after they received a report that shots had been fired.
“While response efforts were ongoing, initial reports indicate an involved male subject fired at on-scene law enforcement officers, resulting in law enforcement returning fire and fatally wounding the involved male subject,” the DCI announced in a statement.
The name and age of the victim was not released.
As authorities attempted to contact the suspect, they called in the South Dakota Highway Patrol’s SWAT team as well as the DCI’s crisis and hostage negotiation team.
In the overnight hours, police used a bullhorn to communicate with individuals inside the home. By 11 p.m., one person had voluntarily exited the home while at least one other remained inside.
