State Sen. Kimberly Lightford’s husband exchanged gunfire with at least one suspect during carjacking earlier this week, police say
By JEREMY GORNER
State Sen. Kimberly Lightford’s husband had a gun and exchanged shots with at least one of the suspects when the couple was carjacked earlier this week in suburban Broadview, authorities disclosed on Thursday.Lightford, the Senate majority leader and the second highest-ranking senator in the General Assembly, was in a vehicle with her husband, Eric McKennie, when they were carjacked at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. The couple was in the near west suburb to drop off a friend, police have said.
At some point after Lightford and McKennie were ordered out of their black Mercedes SUV, there was an exchange of gunfire between McKennie and at least one of the carjackers, Broadview police Chief Thomas Mills said Thursday.

From the article:
The Cook County Sheriff’s Department earlier this month acknowledged the steep rise in carjackings, with Sheriff Tom Dart sending letters to major automakers, asking them to collaborate on addressing the crime.
Brilliant.
Family Dollar employee shoots man trying to rob his store
A man trying to rob a Family Dollar in Winston-Salem was stopped by one of the store’s employees.
Police said Avondre McLaurin tried to steal money from the cash register and appeared to be tucking a gun under his clothes.
He was shot in the leg around 5 p.m. Thursday by the store employee and then fled from the store.
McLaurin was later arrested at his home on North Spring Street and police say he resisted arrest. McLaurin was bitten by a K-9 dog when he tried to escape arrest and was eventually arrested, police told WXII News.

Hat tip to our OAM for the gentle reminder St. Valentine’s Day is approaching, and a .38 snubbie goes with anything.

“Cleanup at the cash register, man shot, bleeding while escaping”
Can we get a Claw Whiz Wheel score on an Avondre (?!) McLaurin?
I hope the Whiz Wheel has been in PMCS over this Christmas season. We may need it again over New Year’s.
Avondre Antwain McLaurin (DAM/WRT) 33 x 4 = 132
I don’t often wish the bad guys “good luck, and good escape”, but I’ll make an exception in this one case.
Did Mr McKennie have all the proper authorization to purchase and carry his pistol? If so, how did he get it/them? By trudging through all the paperwork that the average Illinois citizen (serf) would have to go through? (Not bloody likely) Or was it all rubber stamped because he’s the husband of a politician? Or did he assume, “I’m the husband of a politician, I don’ need no stinkin’ paperwork”?
Rules for thee, but not for me.
I checked this out online and lightfoots hubby is a Democrat and licencenced to carry a concealed firearm. I spelled Democrat the right way because I don’t know if he is a member of the NRA. Almost half of NRA members are Democrats. If he ain’t a member, then he is a demoRat. I pasted his work in the below article.
Kimberly Ann Lightford’s husband Eric P. McKennie is the first to gain insight into the city council process and procedures as the Administrative Assistant to the 37th Ward Alderman from 1995 to 1999. He was also the Treasurer for the 37th Ward Regular Democrat Organization responsible for reporting incoming and outgoing expenditures from 1997 to 1999 to the Illinois State Board of Elections.
Not worried about him, wondering if she is a Feinstein Democrat (I can have guns but you peons can’t).
And there is this…
In 2013, Illinois became the last state to enact a concealed-carry law. Although 22 Democrats voted for the bill, Lightford was among 17 others on her side to vote against allowing Illinois residents to have permits to carry concealed weapons.

So she is against ordinary people having the ability to defend themselves via a CCP, but she is fine with her husband carrying a weapon.

I missed that one. Thanks for the info.
“He was shot in the leg around 5 p.m. Thursday by the store employee and then fled from the store”
Should read “limped from the store”
Maybe Shitcongo needs to pass some more gunz controlz laws? Or fine major automakers for allowing their vehicles to get jacked?
Curry combed the inherwebz, trying to get the name of that Good Boy in NC that helped capture the wounded dirtbag. Was gonna buy the K-9 a T-Bone Steak so he could get the taste of the dirtbag out of his mouth. Some doggo treats and belly rubs are also in order. No joy on finding which pup it was, but there is one of the K-9 Officers that is named “Hondo”. Hmmmm?
“…a .38 snubbie goes with anything.” WORD!, OAM. Now if we could just see a leggy Ms Thang, in her LBD, showing the garter holster carry.
Request noted.
Did Sen Lightfoot’s husband have a CCW?
According to the full article at the link, yes.
The state senator, Lightford. Chicago Mayor Lightfoot has a white woman as her partner. I’m sure she has a carry license, if she wants one.
From research, Lightford’s husband Eric McKennie is licensed to carry a concealed weapon in Illinois. What hoops, if any, he had to jump through to receive the license has been left unsaid.
Obviously today’s vehicles are far too easy to carjack. Since a robust Police presence and prosecutors who actually put criminals in jail are out of the question, armor up that mini van.
/sarc, of course.
I’m thinking go “old school”, back to manual transmission. What Millennial/Gen X/Y/Z knows how to drive a stick? (automotive, not the other kind!)
^This^
I’m currently in the market, and other than heated seats, it’s the most important feature. Actually, in a more moderate clime, a butt chiller may be more important than a butt warmer.
How about speed shifting on a 21/split axle geared truck. Get those rpm’s up pop the road ranger and skip 5 gears. I think thats how I did it before Brink’s went to automatic trainees.
A little perspective on the Lightford story –
The politician’s hubby seems to be the first CCP holder who has discharged their weapon in that county who was not also charged for the exercise of their Constitutional right to defend themselves by SA Foxx.
Over the past year+, I have been required to travel into Cook County several times a week. Each and every time, I am caught between worrying about getting carjacked/victimized by criminals and defending myself from being carjacked/victimized by criminals, as the areas/highways/expressways to and on which I must travel are known to be very risky, particularly for Saltine Americans. So, I did all I could to be far away before the sun set. Now, time of day no longer matters as shootings on the expressways in broad daylight have become the norm.
As I am not a politician, a politician’s spouse or a demoncrat, I would guarantee be charged with a felony, have my gun confiscated and be demonized in the media.
Think about all this. I am not a wilting wallflower prone to clutching my pearls. I do not overtly fear or react to anyone based on the color of their skin, or the area in which they reside. In fact, I am routinely scolded by loved ones for not being suspicious enough. Yet, I no longer am comfortable and go to great lengths to avoid both Chicago and Cook County, not primarily due to the level of crime, but due to the policies and practices of that demoncrat SA. In other words, I am less worried about my chances in certain areas than I am about the practices of the SA in those areas.
I keep asking, what’s it going to take for things to change? This is not a rhetorical question, but maybe it should be phrased as such as so far, the answers are an even further lowering of the bar.
Perhaps the bigger brains her at TAH would be so kind as to share their perspectives. And maybe a little hope there is an end to all this.
I think a sea change is starting, where folks are finally realizing the criminal negligence of their elected “leadership” is harming the community and costing lives. The change while inevitable, is slow and sporadic.
I carried illegally in Maryland when I thought it more expedient to go to court instead of the hospital, or worse. I also was very active politically, which did nothing to stem the endless river of suck that is Annapolis.
So I struck my colors and moved.
Were I in Illinois I’d jump through the hoops for a carry license, and do so. You should, too. Don’t wait for change to come to you.
Get training, get legal, find one that “fits” and carry it. Did you see the fishing video from the other day? The mere presence of a firearm stopped a crime, no shots fired. This happens more often than is reported. Of course one hopes to never need a firearm, but hope is not a strategy. Best to have one.
Lastly, shooting is fun, so practice as often as you can.
“…hope is not a strategy.” This, one million times over.
There are so many resources out there right now, all should use them to the nth.
Ed, agreed on all counts on the mere presence as a deterrent. I jumped and danced years ago for the FOID, and did it again when CCW became an option. Happily, there are a couple good indoor and outdoor range options not too far from me.
As far as moving my colors, the details are being worked out though KoB will be disappointed as his state, lovely as it is, hasn’t made the short list. Literally, there are five related households currently looking for a suitable spot on which to stake our collective claim. There’s so much here I don’t want to leave but it became clear a while back staying wasn’t an option.
KoB weeps.
“The Cook County Sheriff’s Department earlier this month acknowledged the steep rise in carjackings, with Sheriff Tom Dart sending letters to major automakers, asking them to collaborate on addressing the crime.”
Wouldn’t it be great if “automakers” responded with options for readily accessible holsters built into the console so the driver and passenger would have immediate access!
probably ain’t gonna happen.
