Gotdamn, I was REALLY REALLR slow on that one…I bet the only reason I didn’t get first was because KoB was gracious to give a 30 second count…I mean, we posted at 1 after and I was on the other thread finishing up the post to API about the AoI.
Oh well,
Rats of the Clams KoB The throne is yours again for a week.
cheers
Happy Friday KoB ya bastard…
Congrats, KoB….though I did let you be first this week… XD
Congrats KoB. I was fully intending to compete this week, but got delayed on the road.
In yet another reason to hate this cesspool in which I live, I came *thisclose* to being an active participant in a shooting on the highway this afternoon.
News headline says “a woman accidentally shot herself in the leg while driving on the highway”. Nope. Not even close to what happened.
As a sorta witness, I got to hang around for a couple hours waiting for the lead investigator. Finally said enough. Either take my statement now or call me, bye. Really fornicated my schedule of clients for what is the very last day of my final internship.
In other words, it’s almost official that I’ll now get paid to listen to my local curmudgeonly deplorables. I’m still – and will always be- here at no charge for all of my TAH curmudgeonly deplorables. THAT was the headline I was going to lead with if I captured the coveted, only earned never awarded WOT First.
Just more reasons for us to go WSB (Welcome South Babe) for you OAM. A quick Foo of the Barney Google gives a distance of about 844-853 miles from you to Firebase Magnolia, depending on which big road you take to head out on. Might take you a bit longer than the 12.38 hrs indicated cause oncet you gets past Nashville, there are a number of Waffle Houses.
A target rich environment for your paycheck type work. Lots of folks that needs to get the troubles offen their minds. Even more that would line up to pour their hearts out to you. I’d be that suave, chic’, and debonair fellow at the head of the line…holding a Mint Julep, a bouquet of Cherokee Roses, and a pecan pie. To quote The Price is Right “OAM, Come on down!”
ps…if you left now you’d be here in plenty of time for the (GO) Army (BEAT) Navy Festivities Kick Off!

The King of Battle THE King of FIRST of the Vaunted EARNED NEVER AWARDED Title of FIRST on The TAH Weekend Open Thread has regained his Throne, with accompanying Crown and Septuar. And that with even giving a NASA Approved countdown before launching the comment. Only apropos that (GO) Army reclaims the Throne from any of the other Platform Based Artillery Services on this most glorious of Weekends when (GO) Army WILL (BEAT) Navy and make claim to the Commander’s Trophy.
The Class VI Vault is open to all hands (and feets), a big pot of sausage beast with beans soup is a percurlating lowly and the goat is being slow roasted over a nice bed of coals. Cornbread is on the side board and there is pecan pie with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream by the cookie jar full of Sister M_______’s homemade goodness for all to enjoy!

The King of Battle returns to the throne! I knew I wouldn’t make it to the coveted, always earned, never given FIRST because of work. But I got in just in time to see his triumphant return to the throne. Lord it over us with delight, KoB! To honor the once-and-again FIRST, here’s the trivia for the week. May you enjoy! DID YOU KNOW…? Did the U.S. Navy once have “flying” aircraft carriers? By Commissioner Wretched didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com Let’s see … how about this: Dear Santa, I really can’t complain about last year’s Christmas, because you did give me the one big thing I asked for. That awful year of 2020 finally came to an end. But it seems that we’re stuck in the second verse of the same song in a lot of ways now, so I’ll bet you can guess what I’m going to ask for this year: When 2021 comes to an end, can all this pandemic stuff come to an end with it? That was the message I was trying to send last year, but in the glut of letters you get, I’m certain you just missed my point. Thanks, Santa. Milk and cookies, as usual. Love, The Commish Now, on to the trivia! Did you know … … the typical American 18-year-old has spent 11,000 hours in school? That teenager has also spent 18,000 hours watching television. (Draw your own conclusions from this fact, friends.) … pirates used odd reasons to attack ships? For example, pirate captain Benjamin Hornigold (1680-1719) once attacked a ship just so he could take the hats of the crew and passengers. (One must hope that Hornigold let the passengers remove their heads from their hats first.) … the nation of Venezuela in South America got its name from a city in Italy? Spanish explorer Alonso de Ojeda (1466-1515) was sailing in the Caribbean Sea along the South American coast when he saw native houses built on stilts over the water. The houses reminded him of the city of Venice, in Italy, and Ojeda named the coastline Venezuela, which means “Little Venice”… Read more »
There is no Bigfoot. His name is Daryl.
A quarter in 1938 was 90% silver. Based on today’s melt value of the coin that’s $4.01.
Using The CPI Calculator at BLS, 25¢ would be $4.89.
DOL reports Federal Minimum Wage is $7.25 (see link for exclusions).
TBH, I’d rather have the 90% Washington Quarter.

Tanks CW, just got lucky today. Was lurking around reading up on the other thread and just clicked back to home and WHUMP!, there it was, an orphaned TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread. Even gave a count down, just to make it interesting. Better lucky than good, huh?
Another fine j.o.b. on the trivia, I look forward to seeing and sharing this post each week. I got chastised over Thanksgiving cause I neglected to forward it out to some folks while I was out of town, your writings, just as 7 Dec, live in infamy.
Speaking of ways to get headgear, them damned insurrectionists Johnny Rebs would block a train to a stop, and when the Ladies and Gents stuck their heads out the windows to see what was going on, the Cavalry Boys would use their sabres to knock the hats off so the guys on the ground could snatch them up. Good Times!
And speaking of Macon GA, and Naval Vessels, another Sip was named USS Macon. IIRC, she was a Baltimore Class Cruiser, keel laid in ’43 and she was launched in ’45. There was a scale model of each vessel on display in City Hall for many years.
One of the best things to come out of Macon and the most tragic loss the City ever had, was Mr. Otis Redding (The Original King of Soul). His plane went down on this date in history 10 Dec 1967. I had the Honor and Privilege of hearing him play and meeting him when I was a teenager. I’m attaching one of the few videos available of him performing as a Tribute to him and dedicate it to the feelings I have for all of the Adorable Deplorables of TAH. Rest Easy, Big O…you are still missed Good Sir.
“One of the best things to come out of Macon…was Mr. Otis Redding”
And good ol’ soul-loving individuals say Amen.
That man could SING!
I work at Moffett Federal Airfield where the USS Macon was based. The biplanes would launch from inside her and they could also be retrieved by in-flight hook-up, then winched into the dirigible.
This YouTube video shows the in-flight hook up:
So was it the USS Macon or the other one that went vertical while moored to the ground? I also wonder about waste disposal while in the air, I’m betting in that day they didn’t have holding tanks, thus anytime some Crewmember took a #2 it was *WHEEeeeeee – *SPLAT!*
somewhere on the ground
API, they both crashed while in flight, USS Macon off the West Coast, USS Akron was in the East. Both due to nasty weather. And that was the end of (BEAT) Navy’s attempts a rigid airships. Another one of them “Good Idea” but a “Bad Plan”. More info with pics here:
https://www.history.navy.mil/content/history/museums/nmusn/explore/photography/aircraft-us/aircraft-usn-m/uss-macon-zrs-5.html
The other USS Macon CA 132:
https://www.navysite.de/ca/ca132.htm
When USS Akron went down, 73 of 76 crew went with her. The ship’s executive officer, Lt Cdr Herbert Wiley was the only officer rescued.
Wiley would go on to be skipper of USS Macon. Thanks to his experiences aboard Akron, the crew had life jackets and inflatable rafts. Wiley also personally rescued at least one man who was struggling to swim. In this disaster, only two men died.
Wiley had previously been an officer aboard USS Shenandoah (the first US Navy rigid airship) when it crashed, killing 14 men.
Wiley would command the battleship USS West Virginia during WWII and retire as a rear admiral.
So should units be reprimanded for a cheer that goes Let’s Go Brandon…maybe during PT or something like that? Some Officer’s have stated they don’t want to hear it because it is disrespectful to the President?
Now I am not talking about a Direct Order. That would fall under Disobeying a direct order, and would have to be adjudicated on the merits of lawful or not lawful (and the First Amendment is regularly trampled on for Good Order and Discipline!
No matter how much I despise Brandon and everything he and his administration stand for “let’s go Brandon” is not an acceptable chant or cadence call for Active Duty. Regardless of how much I agree or how accurate the sentiment may be, a minimum level of decorum and respect must be shown the Office of the CinC.
Now, when Pvt.Snuffy or Gen. Mayhem says it under his breath, not in uniform, etc., no problem.
A far better response is stony silence, eyes front, with appropriate bearing while wearing the uniform. Which is why “orders” to applaud get issued. Funny how the last guy didn’t need to have “orders” to applaud issued prior to his arrival.
I agree. There’s a time and place for it, and in uniform ain’t it. I like your alternative. In 96, Zagreb Croatia, we had to ordeer Soldiers to go to the airport and see Bill Clinton. Zero volunteers.
You knew this was coming.
“Ahem…” *runs*

Yep…you going to Hell for sure with that one! Plus OAM and nobunny are going to punish you…and NOT in a way that you would enjoy. Glad you did that tho, makes me look just that much more better in their eyes. Cookie?
Oh shut yer butt you brown noser.
😀 😀 😀
Well.
Sorry for my prolonged silence. I’ve been in the kitchen – where I belong – making various delicious things and struggling with a medical issue.
I need to balance my time a little better.
Welcome Home nobunny, you were missed. Was fixin’ to have AW1Ed send up a SAR. Get better…SOON!
Loved the monkey…with the donut!
“…in the kitchen…making delicious things…” Be still my beating heart!
The Trunk Monkey is comedy gold.
re the “armless” mother.
I ocassionally see a young “armless” guy working at the local Walmart.
Always smiling and especially when on greeter duty. Makes my day.
Before I became an eebil double dipping government employee, I worked at Lowe’s for a bit. Had a cashier that was missing her right hand, born that way. She was so damn efficient I didn’t even notice for three months.
While Y’all were pounding your F5 Keys, I was pounding lead into a target.
How many of you could switch from right hand to left hand with your rifle, as you do a tactical range exercise? When I started, it took a long time between each shot before I could bring the “new eye” to bear on the target. Now, it is just 2nd nature.
Why be able to shoot with the left hand/eye when I am shooting alright with my right hand/eye? There is no guarantee that I would be able to see with my right in a firefight. A friend who is an Army Ranger once described having dirt thrown in his right eye by a richochet round in Iraq, and he had a hell of a time bringing his rifle to bear as a leftie.
AIRBORNE= Always In Readiness By Overt Retraining Never Ending
Take a look:

Have a great weekend y’all!
To Frankie’s point, ammo prices are coming down. Time to start dollar-cost-average into a DEEP supply….for next time…which is comin’round.
See: ammoseek, bulkammo, sgammo dot coms
Congrats, Big Gunz! GABN!!!!!!
I separated my ammo stock into “future need” and “target/proficiency” groups. I am about to need to buy a few thousand of .22LR for my target supply. I would like to see the prices on 9MM and .38SPL come down a bit so I could safely do more handgun shooting than I do.
9mm should be on its way down. Fortunately/unfortunately the best way to get into training is bulk (1000 rnd loose).
In case you didn’t know, 22LR isn’t down into what I’d consider a ‘buy zone’ and for good reason. There isn’t much profit in the rimfire at least compared to the centerfire/self defense stuff.
This isn’t new news, same thing happened after the 0bummer anointing and the school shooting back in ‘12.
Let this be a warning to all: round counts should have a comma, 22LR round counts at least 5 digits!
Don’t spare the desiccant.
I’m seeing bricks of 22 at about 12¢/rnd. Scientific wild-ass guess, I’d see that price decreasing 25% in 6 months *IF* things remain calm-ish.
Not advice, do your own research, there’s always tomorrow until there ain’t.
Here ya go bros and ladies.
I keep this tab up all the time and have alerts on my e-mail but I’m shooting myself down to not having many, many thousands of rounds at a high cost I spent last year when I was stockpiling. I’ve since averaged down.
FYI, if you’re interested…New, Brass only and standard indoor range rounds (no green tip, frangible, steel, reloads). You CAN get cheaper but this is inside range standard.
Anyone want an update to this, (Ammoseek.com, popular rounds) I have it open all day every day. Just ask. (or if you want me to pull a different caliber, I can drop a screenshot)

FIRST 25TH. Had a rough couple of days wondering why I was over in my savings acct., pouring over the printed paper with all the withdrawals, deposits and then realized that I never entered the amount into the register book. WTF.

Hmmm….everyone in the immediate fracas looked alike, smack, until the end of the delight and everything looked different, right. Probably security or staff. Either way, they were the winners, one sees.
Probably Amish. You know how *they* are.
Just found out that Mike Nesmith passed away. Here’s a live version of his one of his post-Monkees tunes:
https://youtu.be/9ZiHjmE-5BI
I’ve always liked this song and I’ve mentioned previously that it feels unfinished…maybe that lack of resolution is what draws me to listen to it when a certain mood is upon me.
RIP Mike. The only one left is Mickey Dolenz if I’m not mistaken.
I didn’t realize he was an Air Force veteran.
That I didn’t know. Learn something new every day.
Thirty something and I claim Honorary First once again.
((((OVER))))
The man was looking for a hand out while wearing a NDSM ball cap. He told me he was a disabled veteran from the Gulf Wars. I asked what unit was he in. He told me Fort Leonard Wood in 1981.
We need a better class of phony vets around here.
That bum was not even trying. Sounds like he didn’t make a remotely believable “homeless” vet. Even if he couldn’t afford a Harley, POW t-shirts are cheap, a Seal Cap not much more, and then a few pins would have made him look kosher to the average clueless civilian. Also, he could have picked up a mutt at the dog pound, to claim was his “service” dog to help with his PTS of D. Very weak sauce indeed.
Word.
Even posers are slacking off in the pandemic.
My dog just dropped a huge, steaming pile of Phil Monkress in my neighbor’s yard.
I will pick it up tomorrow.
I went to pick up the huge, steaming (now frozen) pile of Phil Monkress and discovered another one.
It just is not my day.

Not sure where to put this but this, THIS is *NOT* good….
Maybe we’re closer to Pizzagate and Hollywood hidden agendas and the entire worldwide sex trafficking thing than is truly being let on. I mean, I’m not a conspiracy theory kinda guy (much, kinda, well some…I mean, sure I can jump on any bandwagon, I do admit I listen to Coast to Coast AM on the overnight radio) but in all seriousness…and I know it’s ONE guy but it *is* a pattern…across the board of folks in positions of influence and power…

Time for a boating trip with a pile of millstones.
So now I wonder if that Producer will end up “Epsteining” while in jail?

After she is convicted, Maxwell won’t last long. She will end up like Whitey Bulger. She knows too much about the paedo’s among the high and mighty.
I have no doubt she also has more than enough dirt on the Clintons to get her killed.
Navy scores a TD in 3rd qtr to move ahead 14-13. Army just resting, they’ll get serious.
Navy takes it 17-13. Took a lot of gambles, and they paid off. A stinging defeat, but Army has a chance for a 9-win season, and of course a bowl.
And with that, I’ll just drop this here. In stole it from FB from a fellow TAHer. (After I googled it again, it’s apparently from Twitter and Duffleblog…just in case you didn’t see it..)

BTW, Rest In Peace to those who lost their lives in the deadly tornadoes. Please pray for their families as well for those folks who went thru Mother Natures Wrath.
Spot on ninja…Maybe. Good Lord had a reason to shut the power grid thru-out the Village at the start of the 4th quarter. Didn’t have to watch the ending. Kept my blood pressure from going thru the roof and a brick from going thru my Tee Vee Set. Grid came back up just a bit bit ago. ‘scuse me while I dip up another serving of this cold crow. RTR!
Oh well, ROLL TIDE!!!
This video below is by a guy named J Bravo that does some bang up invest-o-tainment commentary. He was Air Force so…. don’t hold it against him? Figured I share:

Saw on Facebook yesterday that Michael Nesmith of The Monkees, died at the age of 78. WEnt over to IMDB to read up on him. Of course we all know that his mother invented correction fluid (White Out), and most know that he has a pioneer in music videos and was the creator for what later became MTV, but according to IMDB, but found this interesting tidbit: Michael spent fourteen months in the U.S. Air Force where he tipped over a general’s airplane while cleaning it. Sure would like to hear the “rest of the story.
“Elephant Parts – The Movie” is the movie that he did that has some of the first “music videos”. You can find it and the skits on YouTube… here’s one of them:
Found in my latest “You ain’t gonna believe this shit” search:

Michaeal Nesmith of the Monkees has passed away at 78 yrs young. Michael was a veteran. He briefly served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic in the early 60s. As a side note, Michael’s late mother, Bette, was the inventor of Liquid Paper. RIP, Michael.

I want to share this link. I like motivational videos, some more than others. This is the most powerful, the most interesting, and the most humorous of all I have seen.
Brian Shul is a retired Air Force pilot, a multiple record setting SR-71 Blackbird pilot, and one hell of a survivor. It is not short, being about the length of most movies at an hour and 10 minutes.
Enjoy “Sled Driver”, and please, if you take the time to watch it, let me know what you think of it.
https://youtu.be/hFJMs15sVSY
I could listen to that man speak for hours on hours.
Can’t wait to watch this! Ty, FC
Out F’ING STANDING, Frankie Cee. Well worth the time it took to watch. Thanks for the linky. An unconfirmed rumor has it that “The Sled” on display at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins GA would be mission ready as soon as the fuel tanks can be filled.
There is an SR-71 on display at the US Air Force Armament museum at Eglin AFB. Walking around it, looking at its sheer size and simplicity, I was impressed. Mach 3+ is a very large number.
I watched a 20/20 ABC special last night on the Baldwin shooting of his camera lady. They regurgitated Stehpanonpalot’s interview clips of Blaster Baldwin’s PR campaign. But they had a prop-master/armorer who demonstrated that if one drops the hammer on a not fully cocked SAA, the hammer catches at the half-cock notch. However, he neglected to say that without full-cock, the chamber is not aligned with the firing pin on the hammer. ABC was so super safety in their own video, the pistols were all stage guns, instead of the real thing.
rgr769, if your “handle” shows your Ranger Class number, I would like to ask:
“Would you know ol’ Ranger JR LeBlanc, one time SMAJ at , Camp Rudder?
It is my class number, 7-69; but I did not have any contact with any SMAJ’s at Ranger School. Our cadre 1SGT was Brinker, and I don’t recall the names of any of the NCO instructors. Our class was overwhelmingly 2LT’s from my RA IOBC class, as we were all ordered to Ranger School, whether we wanted to go or not. All RA combat arms officers (IN, AR, AT, and CE) had to attend Ranger school that year (68-69) and for some time thereafter.
There was a platoon of shake-n-bake E-5’s in my class. Also, one SP-4 and an SSG from A/17th lrrp’s were in my airborne platoon. I didn’t know any of the former E-5’s.
I have a copy of a 64 person jump manifest for the two airborne platoons in my class, and there are eleven EM’s on it. LeBlanc is not one of them.
Ranger JR LeBlanc did Ranger school in the 50s, but spent several years in this, or that, Ranger unit, both the line outfits and in school slots, ending up as SMAJ at Camp Rudder up til his retirement. I know him through the “Florida Swamp Ranger Camp”, and our support for the Ranger Instructors and families at , Camp Rudder.
The only NCO I vividly remember at Florida Ranger Camp was the SFC who was giving us a class on poisonous snakes. During his demo of how to hold on to a Cotton-mouth, he was bit. He completed his presentation before he sought treatment for the snake-bite. That made quite an impression on all of us.
