Pipe Aboard the New Four Star

| October 19, 2021

New Admiral, but in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (USPHS), not the Navy. Who are these folks? From their site:

The U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is an elite team of more than 6,000 well-trained, highly qualified public health professionals dedicated to delivering the nation’s public health promotion and disease prevention programs and advancing public health science.

Of course Joe’s handlers thought the U.S. assistant secretary for health, Rachel Levine, would make a fine four star there.

Rachel Levine, openly transgender health official, to be sworn in as four-star admiral

Dan Diamond

A senior Biden health appointee who made history when she became the nation’s highest-ranking openly transgender official is also set to become its first openly transgender four-star officer, the administration announced on Tuesday.

Rachel Levine, the U.S. assistant secretary for health, will be sworn in Tuesday as an admiral of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a 6,000-person force that responds to health crises on behalf of the federal government, including administering coronavirus vaccines and delivering care after hurricanes. Levine is also the organization’s first-ever female four-star admiral.

In an interview, Levine stressed that her new position as an admiral was “not just symbolic,” and that she would take a leadership role in shaping the public health corps’ priorities. “I’m doing this because of my dedication to service . . . [and] with the utmost respect and honor for the uniform that I will be wearing,” Levine said, adding she would begin wearing the group’s blue uniform immediately.

He’ll look fabulous, but is he qualified? Most likely, although the professorship of psychiatry at Penn State is, unique. Medice, cura te ipsum.

Bad optics, though. His decisions as Pennsylvania’s health secretary required nursing homes to accept Covid patients are questionable. The real problem is in moving his own mother out of one as soon as it became known this was a very bad idea.

Thanks, MD61.

Full size official photo of “Admiral Levine”.
    Includes 4 RIBBONS
    — (Can anyone identify those??).
    And the sleeves.

  3. Jay says:

Huh, ya learn something new everyday. Apparently the stars come from the posting as Assistant Secretary of Health. Per wikipedia (the greatest reference source, I know): “The assistant secretary serves a nominal four-year term at the pleasure of the president. If the appointee is also a serving uniformed officer of the commissioned corps, by statute, he or she is appointed as a four-star admiral and is the highest ranking officer in the commissioned corps,[1][2] as no other position in the Public Health Service is designated as a four-star office.”

That being said: the commission as a 4 star doesnt HAVE to happen. Dr. Howard Koh served in the same posting from 2009-2014 and was never commissioned.

    • Mason says:

Same with the Surgeon General, who rates star PHS rank as an admiral. Remember C. Everette Coop?

      • Jay says:

Koop, Jocelyn Elders, David Satcher….quite a few. Based off the wikipedia article (God, I hate using that), apparently it depends on if they get pulled from the “Executive Schedule IV” route or the USPHS route.

  4. Mason says:

Apparently the PHSCC doesn’t have any uniform standards. I feel bad for the tailor that’s going to have to sew two dress jackets together to get things to stretch across that thing’s acreage.

  5. David says:

    Beyond f*cking belief.

  6. Skyjumper says:

Hey look! We can all put in for a “Public Health Service Commissioned Corps Training Ribbon”. On sale now for…….. “ding-a-ling-a-ling”…only a buck forty nine at your favorite online stolen valor website. Gettem while they’re hot!

Gotta luv a hot woman in uniform. /sarc (grin)

  7. Hack Stone says:

To be precise, Rachel Levine will Be serving as a Rear Admiral.

    • John Seabee says:

At Brucie’s Bath House [entrance in the rear]… Really, though… What in the ever loving fuck is this country coming to? I wonder if it is signed up for Milley’s “Woke Book of the Month” club yet…

      • USAFRetired says:

Don’t confuse Uniformed Services with Armed Services. The comissioned Corps of USPHS and NOAA acount for two uniformed services not included in the Armed Forces/Armed Services.

  8. Hack Stone says:

Has the Admiral commented yet on the most pressing issue of our time, that being the wearing of nail polish while in uniform?

  9. SFC D says:

Why does the Public Health Service require anything remotely resembling a military uniform and rank? Pointless, other than virtue signalling. On second thought, that’s the entire Biden administration. Never mind.

  10. John Seabee says:

That would not even look good at 0245 after 2 six packs of Narragansett Beer and a half a bottle of Jaegermeister.

  11. nobunny says:

“Levine is also the organization’s first-ever female four-star admiral.”

Female… no. No. Jesus… Mary… Joseph… no. My ears are ringing. I think my head’s going to explode.

    • Daisy Cutter says:

So, in the future if a transgender woman switches back to being a cisgender woman and then becomes a four star admiral would she have an asterisk beside her name?

Asking for a friend, of course.

    • KoB says:

Just think nobunny…that murderous whatever it identifies as, has the same X chromies that Sam has. Only an anthropologist knows for sure. (ducks and runs) 😛

      • nobunny says:

        Nuh-uh. Negative.

Sam’s mere presence would make Rachel’s X piss its pants, and then her Y would kill itself.

    • Mason says:

It takes a real man to break the glass ceiling.

    • rgr769 says:

Yeah, “female” my ass. Just because a dude doesn’t want to have genitals any more and wants fake tits, doesn’t make him a female. If a gorilla wants to be a wombat and believes he is a wombat, doesn’t make it a wombat. As a matter of biological fact Levine still has Y chromosomes whether he likes it or not. Feelz doesn’t count in biology or any other science.

  12. Roh-Dog says:

At least this timeline is funny… and I mean fuunnaayy.

  13. ninja says:

Out of curiousity and a sincere question, not sarcasm: Does Levine still have a penis and testacles?

Levine is about 64 years old. Is there a possibility Levine could develop prostate problems such as prostate cancer, enlargement of prostate resulting in difficulty of urination, testicular cancer, erectile dysfunction, etc. etc…

And if that happens, then how would Medical Doctors/Hospitals annotate on any of the above on Levine’s medical records…Would they say ” Tests review ‘She’has an Enlarged Prostate”..?

Or is Levine on Female Hormone Therapy? Always wonder what would happen if that hormone suddenly became unavailable to those who consistantly need to take it, Female or Male.

Are those positions in the PHS permanent or is it similiar to Surgeon Generals positions based on who is POTUS?

And in the meantime, there are still crickets out there from the Biden Administration about presenting SFC Cashe’s Family his APPROVED MOH (signed by President Trump in December 2020) as well as Biden getting a Physical (he will turn 79 in December).

  15. Sparks says:

YGTBFSM! Richard Leland (Rachel) Levine, the ugliest man or woman I have ever seen, is going straight to full Admiral. F’ing why?

How many Vice Admirals are slapping their heads and saying WTF?

  16. SFC D says:

And when admiral Levine makes and official call, the PFC working at WHCA will answer ”Hello this is (Rank Name) here, how may I help you Sir or Ma’am?”, and both terms will be accurate. Either that, or he will be crucified for assuming her gender.

  17. Devtun says:

Former ASH headshed, ADM Brett Giroir looked very much like someone grabbed him from central casting to be an admiral. Seen him many times at the podium or TV interviews, and the guy just had the right stuff, imo.

Because I got my video of Said Presidential Son smoking crack and such deleted from Toob of You, SNL has got me covered. Kinda like South Park, they were ahead of their time (2013)

  23. Berliner says:

Ahem… It is now the U.S. Pubic Health Service under Admiral Rachel Levine. Open Ranks MARCH! Prepare for for Short Arm inspection!

“Pipe aboard the new 4 star”???

    I’ll pass on this one….

    (define pipe…..) 🙂

  25. Dennis - not chevy says:

Not using the Admiral as an example; it is good the USPHS has updated the uniform. In 1983, I met an Ensign and I thought I stepped into a time warp and ended up somewhere in the early 1900’s. All she lacked was the straw hat to make the uniform complete.

  26. Commie-Tsar says:

    I think she looks FABULOUS!!!!

  27. Sapper3307 says:

Base pay looks like about $140.000 a year + dependdas and BHA and others puts it around $190.000 a year.

  28. OWB says:

Well. If that’s all there is to it, I wanna be a 6-star chief corporal major space shuttle door gunner. Only 3-time awardees of the NDSM are eligible for that sorta thing, doncha know. Of course, we must also be fully vaxxed and flued. (Shingles and Hep C are optional.)

Uniforms are also optional. Masks are not.

  29. 5JC says:

I don’t care much about the mystery genitalia. But that stuff in PA about the nursing homes was not cool. The admiral would be the first one to hop off to the secret bunker of there was a real threat to public health all while giving bad advice.

    • MarineDad61 says:

      That’s the consensus in Pennsylvania.
      Only exceptions are the Dems
with horseblinders on for Gov. Wolf and/or Levine.

  30. Steeleyi says:

Someone mentioned this above, but there are Uniformed Services and Armed Services. All the Armed Services are uniformed, but not all of
The Uniformed Services are armed… technically the Coast Guard is Armed but not Military, but some will argue with that…

The NOAA Commissioned Corps (we have a big presence where I live so I actually see them a lot) is part of the Department of Commerce; they run survey vessels and have a flying service as well- they go to OCS at the Coast a guard Academy get commissioned, and do a lot of really cool and important stuff- my cousin is an ensign and he is doing some sort of ocean floor mapping project.

The USPHS is part of Health and Human Services, wears naval uniforms and follows naval rank and customs and courtesies, but have heir own awards, etc. The US Surgeon General is actually in the USPHS and that’s why everyone thinks that dude is in the Navy. Most of them are practitioners.

At any rate, they are commissioned officers and due all the customs and courtesies of their rank- salutes, etc.

    • Poetrooper says:

Where you find a lot of USPHS physicians actually practicing hands-on medicine is in the Indian Health Service. In his former life as a government marketing manager for big pharma, young Poe dealt with these folks in Indian hospitals and clinics from Florida to Alaska.

He cannot recall ever being unduly impressed. In fact, unlike the many memorable military physicians and physician assistants he dealt with, he cannot recall a single USPHS doctor or PA.

The Washington DC headquarters of the Indian Health service was probably the most dismal and unimpressive operation Poe ever had to deal with. Even the worst VA operation he experienced in three decades made the IHS look bad. Calling on the reservations and their health care providers was a truly depressing experience.

Those people deserve better, much better…

      • Berliner says:

In the late 70’s when I worked at the Chicago MEPS, the USPHS hospital was 2 blocks away. We went there for dental care. I asked my dentist one day if she ever shopped at the Exchange or Commissary. She didn’t know about them so I offered to drive her to Great Lakes to show her the Exchange and Commissary on a Saturday when we weren’t working.

When I picked her up she was in uniform, TW’s (tropical weight khakis), and wore her silver oak leaf. A platoon of recruits was marching by the Exchange and the Navy Drill Instructor saluted her. All she could do was giggle, wave and say “hello boys!”. I gave her a quick lesson on military protocol.

  31. kaf says:

So, this dude gets to pull in Admiral pay plus his GS-97 government job pay?

    Can anyone confirm?

  32. Commissar says:

The Unformed Health Services have a very bizarre promotion process with temporary ranks and rank is often assigned based on appointment to specific jobs.

Best I can tell is she was promoted to admiral because she was appointed by Biden to be an assistant secretary of health which includes the rank of admiral for uniformed health services members.

It is similar to the Surgeon General being immediately promoted to admiral upon appointment.

While she is technically the first transgender officer to hold a flag rank, she will have a metaphorical asterisk by her name.

  33. Prior Service says:

Piped aboard with a couple toots on the old skin flute. Welcome, freak.
