A Sumter woman will not be charged for shooting intruder who entered her house

A woman who shot a man that forced entry into her home will not be charged according to the Sumter Police Department.The incident happened at around 4:15 am on Robney drive.
Once on the scene, police found a woman, who was beaten, and a man shot outside of the home.
The initial investigation indicates the man, Euguene Rhinehart III, 31, of Granada Drive, entered the home uninvited through an unlocked door and located the homeowner, Samantha Funchess, 43,
Investigators say Rhinehart then confronted Funches and began punching her. During the assault, Funchess managed to get a gun that was in the home and shoot Rhinehart.

Port Arthur police say ‘armed citizen’ intervened and stopped Church’s Chicken robbery

Texas authorities say an armed customer intervened during the attempted robbery of a fried chicken fast food restaurant, fatally wounding one gunman and sending a second suspect struck by gunfire to the hospital.Port Arthur police responded around 8:45 p.m. Friday to an aggravated robbery happening at the Church’s Chicken location at 1849 Jefferson Drive. Detectives learned that two suspects armed with handguns were robbing the restaurant, but an armed citizen intervened and a shootout ensued.
“Several shots were fired and both suspects were struck,” the Port Arthur Police Department said in a press release. “The suspects fled the scene and were later located by police officers.”
One of the suspects was later pronounced dead at an area hospital, police said. The second was located at Normandy Apartments, KFDM reported, and was brought to the emergency room for treatment.

Thanks Brother, I know it;s been a long time since I logged in, been having a lot of health problems. Still trying to get my spine fixed so I could walk again. I really hate using that damm walker! We just had a guy down here go nuts and beat 3 people dead with a ball bat!

First successful auto magnum pistol… bet the folks who built the Automags might disagree with that.
Was thinking of but couldn’t remember the Auto Mag that David mentioned until it was mentioned in his comment. Used to shoot at the new Nassau County Long Island NY range and I remember the guy a couple of points from me was shooting an Auto Mag and a flame shot out from the barrel that I’ve never seen anything like that. I used to reload and used corn cob media to clean out the cases and spmetimes particles stayed in the case and when I fired, they looked like sparklers flying out. Used a CH progressive press with an aluminum platen unlike the old star presses.
A different kind of FGS:
In the Greater GB AO we had three children get lost in the Sam Houston National Forest.
In their neighborhood there is a trail through the woods that lets them visit each others’ houses without going on the road. Two 6-year-olds and a 7-year-old were walking down that trail when they decided to explore a dry creekbed.
Darkness came earlier than they expected. It was overcast with increasing chances of rain.
Their parents had told them: if you ever get lost, stay together and wait for an adult. They did.

Parts of that woods are pretty thick, too. Best way to come into Houston is through yhem, though. Everything after from there on is, shall we say, unpretty.
Now THERE is a FGS with a Happy Ending. And the children did just as their parents taught them. Good children. Cheeseburgers, warm showers, dry clothes, and naps all around.

WHich shows that you can’t (always) rely on modern (cell based) electronics, and need to “be prepared” with old-fashioned standbys, such as a magnetic compass, and two-way HT radios-CB, amateur, police band, your choice, whatever works.
I was thinking that as well.
The old-fashioned (in popular thought) lensatic compass or the Silva-type compass used by competitive land-nav clubs is a good investment that lasts longer than a cell-phone!
A USGS map of the area where you can find out where your “handrails” are and shoot a bearing toward the nearest one.
Whistles. Can do a lot of “talking” with a whistle.
But most of all, what these children showed well, use your head.
We had a compass course up at Fort Drum when I was in the Army NG 1975-1977 and we used the lensatic compass and the map grid protractor. Years later during one of the National Hurricane Conferences I attended up in Orlando Fl., I attended the National Grid course and they gave out those protractors along with topo maps and showed the atendees how to use them which were basicaly for rural terrain where there were gas lines running through so one could give the map coordinates for a problem/gas leak on the line.

And I’m willing to bet that Ms Funchess will be making sure that all her doors are locked TIGHT at night from now on.
