AZ’s phony Marine arrested

| June 11, 2009

This morning Code Monkey dropped word that phony Marine John W. Rodriguez was arrested yesterday. I confirmed that with Detective Watson who had stopped by last week to ask for tips as to his whereabouts.

Detective Watson expressed his gratitude for the tipsters whose messages I forwarded to his office. I put off announcing Rodriguez’ arrest waiting for a press release that I haven’t seen yet, but some of our readers are getting antsy and I’m getting about a tip an hour about Rodriguez.

The latest was an article about the arrest from Scott who says he’s been reading us for a month or so now. Here’s part of the article from AZ Central;

DPS Detective Roger Wilson said it was unclear why Rodriguez was posing as a war hero, but that he got discounts on airline tickets, didn’t have to change the registration on his car from California to Arizona and made friends by introducing himself as a Marine.

Wilson said Rodriguez, who is unemployed, had been living in the suburban Phoenix home of a man he met on a flight to Phoenix for two months without paying for his stay.

He also said Rodriguez cited an upcoming deployment to Iraq to get a court hearing on a drunken-driving charge postponed.

DPS officials arrested Rodriguez after he got off a flight from Sacramento, Calif. They found Marine uniforms, a medal and ribbons representing the Navy Cross and the Silver Star at the Phoenix home. Authorities did not know how he obtained the ribbons.

Looks like he’s going to be wearing those pink overalls and eating cheese sandwiches at Sheriff Joe Arpaio‘s jail for a long time;

Thanks to everyone who kept us updated on this.

Thanks to Sherrif Joe, Mr. Rodriguez gets to experience what it’s like to live in a tent like REAL military personnel and the triple digits will be back next week. Oorah!

Can we get Rodriguez to be a guest blogger from Pink central? He has a CIB doesn’t he?

Great work everybody! And what a great team of vets, citizens, and blogs all working together.

Here’s hoping the jury drops the hammer on this guy.

It is easy to get the ribbons and medals. A quick search of the internet and there are plenty of places to order them.

Why is it that most of these fakes are PX Rangers? I mean, they usually have DSC, Silver Star, Purple Heart, etc.

I mean, Jeezus, do they think that they won’t get more scrutiny from real Vets by having the high priced jewelry hanging from their store bought uniform?

Strandlof/Duncan had the usual trappings of PX Ranger syndrome: 3 tours, wounded several times, officer, homo, etc., etc. Anything to draw attention to himself.

This chucklehead had the Navy Cross, Silver Star, yada, yada, yada.

I have met men that actually have those things, that were actual POW’s, that actually have the DSC, Silver Star, etc. and the common thread going through all of them is that they don’t bring it up. Others do, when introducing them, but the person that has been awarded these medals recognizing that they have big, hairy, stainless steel gonads, doesn’t really say much about them.

I have met several bona fide POW’s, including 2 from WWII and I tell ya, they feel kinda embarrassed when they are showered with all sorts of duely earned recognition. I mean, one of them I was talking to didn’t even mention that he had been a POW, when we were talking about his stint in WWII, he just said that he hit a rough patch for a while during the war. Then, as we were getting ready to leave, he got up an pulled out his cover denoting POW status and placed it on his head. (he was a B-17 crewman that had to bail out over occupied France)

Think we an exclusive photo of him wearing pink underwear
