Biden’s Anti-Crime Plan

| June 24, 2021

Biden announced in a speech that while he is holding out hope for the reinstatement of the Assault Weapons Ban, his strategy on reducing crime and gun prevention is to reduce gun violence is through revoking licenses to sell guns through loopholes.

“Today the [Justice] Department is announcing a major crackdown to stem the flow of guns used to commit violent crimes,” Mr. Biden said. “It’s zero tolerance for gun dealers who willfully violate key existing laws and regulations. And I repeat, zero tolerance. If you willfully sell a gun to someone who is prohibited from possessing it, if you willfully fail to run a background check, if you willfully falsify a record, if you willfully fail to cooperate with inspections, my message to you is this: We will find you.”

Biden targets law-breaking gun dealers in anti-crime plan

By COLLEEN LONG and JONATHAN LEMIRE

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden announced new efforts Wednesday to stem a rising national tide of violent crime, declaring the federal government is “taking on the bad actors doing bad things to our communities.” But questions persist about how effective the efforts can be in what could be a turbulent summer.

Crime rates have risen after plummeting during the initial months of the coronavirus pandemic, creating economic hardship and anxiety. Biden’s plan focuses on providing money to cities that need more police, offering community support and most of all cracking down on gun violence and those supplying illegal firearms.

“These merchants of death are breaking the law for profit,” Biden said. “If you willfully sell a gun to someone who’s prohibited, my message to you is this: We’ll find you and we’ll seek your license to sell guns. We’ll make sure you can’t sell death and mayhem on our streets.”

But there are also tricky politics at play, and Biden’s plan shows how few options the Democratic president has on the issue.

The steps he outlined are aimed at going hard after gun dealers who break federal law and establishing strike forces in several cities to help stop weapons trafficking. He also said he would seek more money for the agency that tracks the nation’s guns.

But the rest of his new strategy boils down mostly to suggestions for beleaguered localities. He’s encouraging cities to invest some of their COVID-19 relief funds into policing and pushing alternative crime reduction steps such as increased community support and summer jobs for teenagers — often both targets and perpetrators of violence.

But it’s voluntary.

“…providing money to cities that need more police…” That would be those cities that have defunded their organic police departments and have seen crime rates skyrocket. But teen summer jobs will fix that, if any employers can afford the ridiculous minimum wages for unskilled labor enacted in many of those self-same cities.

So lets go after licensed firearm dealers, who directly supply about none of the firearms used in crimes, and fund more community support. Whatever that means.

Thanks, David.

Yup, gun control. The big National Police Force (Jawohl, comrade!) will be next.

Graybeard

Oh, you mean the FBI?

Anonymous

Sure seems to want to be.

STSC(SW/SS)

If you know there are bad actors in illegal gun sales then say who they are and prosecute them. If not then STFU.

Biden’s anti-crime plan is a crime.

Hack Stone

Will they be going after people who provide false information on their background check paperwork? There was some crackhead in Delaware who lied on a form and purchased a firearm, but no one seems concerned about that.

ChipNASA

Annd I was about to say…..*crickets*.
Kinda like prosecuting Stolen Valor.
And Graft.
And Fraud.
And Bribes.
And Pay to Play.

Skippy

Pony pellets! This smoke and mirrors crap is just like the crap stuck on your riding lawn mower tire. It keeps going around and around til it falls of in that part of the yard you didn’t want it in. And somebody still got to clean it up.

Virtue signaling at its finest…and the ground work being laid for the coming national police force. Wonder when they gonna prosecute the grubermint entities that was so fast to sell gunz to criminals? I’m still furious about that.

And these fools on all of the inherwebz comment boards talking about voting them out in 2022 or “taking back the WH in 2024”. Guess what, Citizen? Your vote isn’t ever going to count anymore. What counts now is who is counting the votes. We have been voted into Socialism. We’re gonna have to shoot our way out.

Twist

“if you willfully falsify a record”

Does that include his crackhead son? I will believe Biden is serious about stopping gun crime as soon as his son is prosecuted.

Mason

Yeah, pretty sure that’s already a crime.

Roh-Dog

Oh! This is funkin RICH! Xiden is NOW concerned with ‘merchants of death…breaking the law for profit’?!?!

“If you willfully sell a gun to someone who’s prohibited, my message to you is this: We’ll find you and we’ll seek your license to sell guns. We’ll make sure you can’t sell death and mayhem on our streets”, said a cranky loser after pudding time but before his nap.

Pray, Slo Lie-den, art thou seeking to find thyself? YOU bragged about bombs dropped in undeclared war zones. Were you in the room when Americans were intentionally smoked via a toy? What about you restricting lethal aid and money in exchange for political favor and finical gain?
WHO IS THE MERCHANT OF DEATH?!
Who declassed illegally gained FISA wiretap info? There was 17 people at the time that could. WHY DON’T WE HAVE THESE NAMES?!

You, your big-eared buddy with the dude for a wife, that pustule Hitler-y, and a vast swath of your friends ARE the drones you’re looking for.

I don’t know if the lot of you will see justice in this life, but the Good Book outlines what happens to those who break is Law. A plague upon your house.

Graybeard

Can you say “Fast and Furious”?

Yeah, that.

Roh-Dog

I can say that and unindicted felons.

Mason

The Biden Admin just last week held up “lethal” aid to Ukraine before Biden’s meeting with Putin.

Poetrooper

What with Biden’s open border I’m sure the cartels will be glad to step up to the challenge of supplying America’s criminal element with firearms, including fully automatic weapons, which are not now available through licensed firearms dealers.

At a hefty markup of course, necessitating increased crime to pay for the price markups.

You show ’em, Joe…

M48DAT

Working at a big box sports store behind the gun counter we get our morning coffee spew every time that idiot opens his mouth.

Devtun

According to Sleepy Creepy Joe, the common citizen w/ their scary guns will probably be crushed if they try to resist. Biteme: ‘If you want to take on the gov’t, you need F-15s, and maybe some nuclear weapons’. Orange Man bad though.

Andy

Does anyone else catch what the idiot said? If you reduce the number of licenses to sell through loopholes just says to me there are no loopholes. Is there an FFL holder anywhere that has loophole capable on their license? And what’s up with the whisper speech yesterday? My Mom said this how my Dad acted just before she put him in a home for his dementia and alzheimers.

E4 Mafia '83-'87

Does anybody else notice that none of the “answers” to fix the problems of rising crime are the ones caused by Democrats and their policies that favor criminals and handicap the law?

UpNorth

I noticed that right away. What can go wrong when you release felons from prison, so they can escape the Wuhan Virus? Why, crime rates skyrocket, murders increase and on and on. And when those repeat felons re-offend, judges in many jurisdictions release the offenders with no bail or a “promise” to appear.

Ex-PH2

So it doesn’t occur to that bunch of marones that the “trafficking” comes from stolen guns?

Nah, that would be too easy, to obvious, too much – well – common sense, wouldn’t it?

Still ain’t gonna stop gun trafficking in the ‘hoods.

Anonymous

Da, comrade, criminals are but an excuse. Besides, who else runs black market for nice consumer goods in Socialism?

Andy

Common sense ain’t common.

penguinman000

“If you willfully sell a gun to someone who is prohibited from possessing it, if you willfully fail to run a background check, if you willfully falsify a record, if you willfully fail to cooperate with inspections, my message to you is this: We will find you.”

So is he positing that holding those who engage in criminal behavior accountable will decrease crime?

Huh. Who would’ve thought that enforcing the law decreases crime. Perhaps start with the clowns who green lit the fast and furious fiasco.

SFC D

In Joe’s defense, his supporters are too ignorant of current gun laws to realize everything he pointed out is already illegal. The left has this obsession that creating more gun laws and making illegal actions more illegal will solve everything. Everyone wants more laws but nobody gives a shit about enforcement. What’s the first thing dropped in a plea bargain? The weapons charge. Targeting unscrupulous FFL’s is low hanging fruit. It briefs well but is completely ineffective. Enforce the laws on the books. If you use a gun in the commission of a crime, it should be painful.

A Proud Infidel®™

Let’s not forget that during Operation Fast & Furious there were honest FFL Dealers who were calling the BATF saying “HEY, THIS is an obvious Straw Purchase!” to which the Feds told them to go ahead with the sale. Let’s also not forget that it took place under the 0bama Administration to which Biden was a part of!

ArmyATC

I can’t help but think that this is the Democrats simply going after gun dealers in general. They can’t pass their draconian legislation. They can’t repeal the law protecting gun makers from frivolous lawsuits. So now they’ll attack the dealers, all of whom make a mistake at some point. It’s a way of shutting down sales and restricting gun ownership by restricting the numbers of those who sell guns.

RGR 4-78

So, he is going to prosecute the law abiding gun dealer that sold a revolver to his crack head son, but he is not going to prosecute his crack head son who lied on the back ground check forms.

SgtBob

Long, long time ago I covered the Model Cities program for a city in NE Texas/SW Arkansas. The major topic at every board meeting was “establishing community plans and centers to keep our young people off the streets.” That was 1975, and I can guarantee crime statistics in those cities are not lower than then. Money, money, money. Po-leece know who the bad guys are. Taxpayer money paid to bad guys to be good guys would do just as much good.

11B-Mailclerk

You can expect that there will extra effort to go after the “hobbyist” and “sideline” FFLs.

The usual method is unending audits and enthusiastic prosecution. Slight paperwork defects for otherwise lawful transactions become “Surrender your FFL and logbooks, or we prosecute you for the guy who initialed his middle name.”

The “Kitchen Table FFL” is a surprisingly large fraction of the FFL population.
