I wouldn’t call myself a hero’: Gas station customer stops armed robbery

COLFAX, Iowa (KCCI) – A convenience store robbery outside Des Moines ended peacefully thanks to a customer who distracted and disarmed the suspect.

Brice Gathercole never imagined a quick trip to a Casey’s convenience store Tuesday would turn into him interrupting a robbery.

“I just pulled up. I was walking in to get a bag of ice,” Gathercole said.

“I came up to the counter, and there’s this gentleman standing behind the counter with a gun stuffing his pockets full of cigarettes.”

The store’s three clerks were hiding in a closet office, on the phone with police.

“I just started talking to him, you know, trying to keep everything nice and calm and cool, you know, asking if he needed any help or if he needed a ride somewhere. Anything to get him kind of calm and relaxed,” Gathercole said.

While that conversation was going on inside, Colfax Police Department officers and Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies were swarming the store outside.

“I tell him, I say, ‘You know, I’m trying to help you here,’” Gathercole said.

“…there’s this gentleman…” My home training on “How to be a Gentleman” didn’t include a lesson on how to stuff my pockets with stolen goods. When Bubba and the gang get ahold of him, there will be something else getting stuffed. BZ to the Citizen.

Haas IS a Good Boy. I’d like to buy that K9 Officer a T-Bone Steak. Gotta wonder if Hass used the kid as a “chew toy”?

That there ducks foot pistol kinda reminds me of a certain Naval Long Range Sub Hunting Patrol Aircraft. Funky as all hell design, but it worked for what it was designed (?) to do. “Away boarders” or “here’s yer hue and cry, these bullets are addressed “to whom it may concern.” Multi barrel hand cannons. Gotta love ’em!

I think one can procure a working replica of a ducksfoot pistol – it would be a great conversation piece while holding a perp at bay until LEOs (or EMTs if he is really stupid) arrive.

‘Ed,
I realize it was oh-dark-too-damn-early when you posted today’s FGS, and there was most likely too much blood in your caffeine stream, so I’m willing to cut you some slack………
BUT……..
Shouldn’t the second story score be 0/2/0?

I guess three on one wouldn’t be a fair fight.
